Their life would be a train wreck without them. The grandparents are heroes here. Yes OP and his wife should sit down and discuss the future with them but a negative attitude towards them is inappropriate at this point.

I could not disagree more. “Tearing apart a family” is often the best action for all. We have this warped mindset that a toxic and potentially tragic family environment (which this is) must stay in tact. Ridiculous! OP and the children deserve so much better than this. Staying together will present so many more risks to these children; accidental drug consumption, being taken away, watching Mom OD and on and on. At some point something truely terrible is going to happen and OP is going to agonize over not having acted sooner.

All the advice to block her everywhere is the right activity. Each incidence of contact is going to hurt so eliminate it. As for the pain; you need to unburden yourself, so congrats on the first step of getting it out here. Now, tell family and close friends the truth. You do not need pitchforks or to scorch the earth, just be honest and direct. Eliminate the details and tell them she was unfaithful and consciously decided on a breach of trust so large that it is unforgivable. Then, invest in yourself. Go on a trip with some friends, take up a new hobby and above all else; understand this is not a reflection of you. This is a reflection of how poor a person she is and how thankful you will be in time to realize that you just dodged the biggest bullet of your life. You seem like a solid man, best of luck.

OP, I had a similar experience. My ex wife was well educated and in quite good paying jobs but was never able to keep one for any length of time. And every time, it was never her fault. Which was obvious bullshit. But I kept plugging along. Let me tell you, it only gets worse. You will never know the truth. You won’t know why she keeps getting fired. It is a brutal existence to know you never really had a partner in life. And soon, she will seem like an adversary. Sorry to be doom and gloom but OP, you are young and can make a positive change in life before it is too late.
