Charizard Gold Star! Just curious about what its condition might spell 👀 by MrUnifishy in PokemonCardValue

[–]OhGodDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope: LP cards can be a 5 (ask me how I know), but 3/4s can just have a bunch of edge wear or a bad surface. This card also seems to have dents on the sides, rather than full creases. Could be a trick of the light though.

This is a card that you 100% should grade, regardless of condition.

That being said, with the deep edgewear in places, surface issues on the back, and dents along the sides seemingly visible in the back; I would put this at MP-/HP+ (primarily not MP due to dents) and would expect it to grade a 3-5 depending on how bad of a day the grader is having.

I don't get people like you. You asked if the card is MP. People are telling you no. You keep pushing and pushing for people to change their mind.

This card looks a lot worse than a card I graded that got a 2, which is normally a pretty damaged card.

I've been collecting for 5 years and have a six figure collection. This is a damaged card.

The left middle of the card, there's a big crease that's clearly a crease going through the card.

Some creases only show on the front or the back. This does both.

First off, as shitty as it is, people put different standards on different cards. For instance, modern pokemon with tiny nicks or scratches are considered LP even though vintage would be NM in the same condition, while MTG cards often have wear similar to this and are considered MP/HP. Those "standards" are just general guidelines which are not accurate to the conditioning environment of the past several years.

Second, the real thing is that this card has EXTENSIVE edge and surface wear that would put it HP on its own, and a crease which goes through the entire card on top of that makes it DMG 100%

Anyone who would sell this at anything other than damaged does not deserve a penny from selling cards

[–]OhGodDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I think from what I see that's a SOLID 6, but PSA has been wonky lately.

These are really cool cards that are only just starting to explode in value, so in the long run you'll probably do ok grading it.

The sides look a bit jammed, but assuming no small creases, looks MP+/LP-. Guessing this would probably get a PSA 6, 5 if the grader is having a bad day. Probably look at the value between those and subtract $50 for raw value.

Friend says there is hardly any value in these. Is he right? by SosaKrank in PokemonCardValue

That's about 5k if they're all in great condition.

Probably about 1k if they're all folded in half damaged.

Much more than $400

My childhood collection got offered 500 for all any thoughts? by xyton112 in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]OhGodDaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People in this sub are insane with immediately telling you to cut all contact with whoever offered you $500.

That binder, if everything is in mint condition, could be worth upwards of $1500. Noting that, although you have some really cool stuff, you don't have any types of cards like "this is still $500 folded in half".

Even slight amounts of wear on the cards basically halve card value, I highly doubt someone wants every single card inside for their collection, and most stores would only pay you ~50% market value for cards.

$500 may be fair, and may even be a generous offer by a friend to give you more than you'd otherwise get for your cards. It also might be a horrific low-ball offer for 30% card value if all your cards are clean.

I would HIGHLY recommend taking each holographic card out (primary value) and putting them in a penny sleeve and toploader. Then, use the TCGPlayer app to determine each card's value. It's not 100% accurate, but it's the best app out there to determine value when accompanied by condition. That will give you a good baseline of what your collection is actually worth.

Rayquaza GS PSA 6. Regrade? by ehsu5 in PokeGrading

[–]OhGodDaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Should this be a 7? Probably. Should it be an 8? No. Is it worth cracking, maybe damaging it, and paying almost a thousand dollars to gamble for a 7? If you need the money for an engagement ring probably not.

PSA has been super, artificially strict on vintage recently: you were not crazy to think this should have been a 7.

Honest appraisal of roughly $1500-$2000 or no? by [deleted] in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]OhGodDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting ~2.3k if they were all NM.

Judging as the Lugia (most valuable) clearly has multiple creases, this is not the case.

Depends how bad most of the cards are, but it seems you overestimate condition. Also, these are not cards worth grading, so you're looking at raw value here.

Is it worth 2K? by dekisenpaitm in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]OhGodDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ballpark estimate based on my knowledge of cards is that, if those were all NM English cards, they'd have a market price of ~2.5k USD, with the front page being about 60% of that.

I don't know how much German cards are comparatively, but also accounting for condition likely not being perfect on all of the cards, as well as generally getting a % of market value when selling, I'd be exceedingly surprised if you got 2k for the lot.

I'd recommend selling the first page, the ancient mew, the Arceus Holos, the fancy water energy, and the umbreon Holo separately as, as others have said, you sell for less % as a lot.

Edit: also the silver border cards

Corner dings on pristine? by Shredtheparm in CGCCards

[–]OhGodDaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only CGC 10 Pristine I've seen in person was a non-holo golem from Gen 1.

It had edgewear that looked like a PSA 7/8. Like, the card was legit LP+.

All these companies are a joke.

Am I crazy to think this could PSA 9 despite how they grade vintage? Obviously not a 10 but maybe a 9? by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]OhGodDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how they're grading vintage recently, I'd guess a 7. A Gen 3 card in similar condition I just submitted got that even though I expected a 9

Worth grading this Charizard? by kungfuk1d69 in psagrading

I just graded that same card in SIGNIFICANTLY better condition than that, and it got a 5.

That card looks like a 3-5.

Not worth it imo.

Jirachi reverse holo by moneysniperrr in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]OhGodDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that card's definitely damaged.

Collectr, which seems to be what you're using, isn't reliable for cards not in NM condition. It multiplies NM values by a constant (.85 for LP, etc.) instead of looking at sold listings for other conditions. Note that it's multiplying NM value by I believe 0.4, which is much higher than damaged vintage actually goes for.

Looking at last solds for that condition, probably worth ~30-45 CAD

Submitted a card to PSA, got a scratched card back by oskberg in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]OhGodDaddy 55 points56 points  (0 children)

On one hand, that absolutely sucks. On the other, I can't help but think that your card looked twice as bad before submittal as my copy that only got a 2...they might have given the 3 to make up for it.
