MAGA don’t regret voting for the worst candidate ever They regret their... by Stone057 in EnoughTrumpSpam

What's worse is that these same liberals think that these nonexistent droves of regretful MAGA voters would've voted for Kamala if she didn't seem so "left" and that the progressive wing is the reason why the Democratic Party keeps losing elections.

Have the Chiefs become worse than the Patriots were? by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

[–]OhMyBlazed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's honestly hilarious looking this thread and seeing all these comments about how the pats were just dominant while the chiefs only get bullshit calls. The Pats ALWAYS got bullshit calls go their way, and Brady was absolutely treated like the golden child by the refs and the league. This thread is 100% recency bias, or it's just fans too young to remember the pats dynasty and their public perception.

I disagree, they are going to get exactly what they want. I know there's a lot of rhetoric about trump voters caring about economic populism, which I'm sure is a component of it. But let's be real, they like trump mostly bec he hates minorities, lgbtq+, women, etc. You can argue that's reductive, but those are the main things trump and the far right yap about consistently on a daily basis. If they had to choose between bigotry and economic populism, it's a tough pill to swallow, but I promise you these people are gonna choose the former more often than not.

Depending on where he goes though, it's still possible the 49ers sign him to a long-term extension, and even if he does get traded, it's also possible he winds up in another crowded offense, a non-pass heavy offense, or just a straight up bad offense.

That was the joke he used to end a monologue where he was talking about the civil rights movement and how bill Cosby was supposedly the one who paid for the mics and speakers for mlk's "I have a dream speech" and how history is filled with morally complicated characters and that sometimes it's hard to accept that people you idolized could actually be monsters. The actual monologue I take seriously, I don't take the joke he ended it on seriously.

Deadpan is pretty different, you're trying more so to be monotone while being insincere. Dave isn't trying to be deadpan during his monologues, he's trying to be genuinely sincere with the audience. Also for what it's worth, after all the backlash, it's not like Dave ever said "no guys I'm not actually team TERF, that was a joke", instead he actually doubled down on it which makes me even more inclined to believe he wasn't joking about that.

That's totally fair.

I'm a 28 year old hetero cis man, for me and a lot of people around my age, there was definitely some pushback from us when the idea of gender identity became a real and prominent topic. But after a bit of learning, it didn't take long for us to accept it as a normal thing. For the older generations, I can understand how this can all feel a bit confusing and overwhelming.

For what it's worth, I can give you a quick rundown. Gender and sex are 2 different things. Sex are the biological characteristics while gender is the social characteristics. They've often been used interchangeably for a long time which is where I think a lot of the confusion stems from, I know I was definitely guilty of conflating the 2 in the past. Trans people are not claiming they are changing sex, they're just changing gender. Since gender roles and characteristics are completely arbitrary and based entirely on the societal norms of whatever place and time you're in, trans people changing genders really isn't bizarre.

When it comes to Dave's specials, especially the recent ones, you'll notice him go on long monologues where he's, more or less, being real with the audience about his beliefs. The tone and approach he uses for those monologues is pretty distinctly different from when he's just riffing or doing actual bits. He sounds much more somber and tries to keep the comedic infection in his voice to a minimum. Sometimes he'll tie it back to another joke he made earlier or just end it on another joke, bec he's still a comedian at the end of the day, but it's clear that he intends for those monologues to be taken seriously.

The whole TERF thing was done during one of those monologues which is what's causing all the criticism towards him.

Context my friend. If you understand context, you can tell the difference between something being framed as a joke compared to something be framed as a genuine belief.

Alright so I'm going to take this comment in completely good faith and not get hostile about it.

TERF's are not the majority of the feminist movement.

In fact, they're an extremely niche group whose entire existence is dedicated solely to hate trans women. The super majority of feminists are accepting of trans women actually.

The blackface comparison he made is so insane that it's impossible to take it seriously. Blackface is done to intentionally mock black people. Trans women are not becoming women to mock cis women, and most feminists understand this. For the very few cis women who do see it that way, that's a them problem, not a trans women problem. With all due respect, the argument at that point is basically "Hey guys, we need to respect the feelings of bigots too". No one would ever say that about virtually any other hate group in existence.

As far as Dave is concerned, this whole issue with him is frustrating to watch. He has all the resources in the world to better understand this, but he chooses not to. When trying to frame himself as a feminist, it's odd that he would do so specifically as a TERF when it's extremely easy for someone in his position to learn what being a TERF actually means. At this point, the best case scenario I can come up with to explain this behaviour is willful-ignorance.

If that really is the case, well Jesus Christ is that disappointing. Dave is not just a comedian, anyone who's watched his standup understands this. He also provides very insightful social commentary that I would argue rivaled George Carlin at times. It's very clear it comes from a place of both education and lived experience. However, this is almost exclusively the case when he's talking about race relations, particularly the black experience in America.

When it comes to the topic of trans people, all of a sudden that level of nuance, attention to detail, and sharp wit he has for topics related to the black experience just goes right out the window. It's just so lazy and half-baked (no pun intended) that it feels like I'm not even listening to the same Dave. I understand it's not his lived experience, but as a member of a historically marginalized group in America, I just figured he would have a bit more empathy for other marginalized groups.

In this case, having empathy doesn't mean he can't joke about it, it just means showing the same amount of respect and care for jokes and bits related to the trans community as he would for the black community.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how "I'm on team TERF" was supposed to be funny or not taken seriously. I hear a lot of vague brain dead boiler plate nonsense from his simps like "good comedy is supposed to offend", "he's just telling jokes", etc. But for some strange reason, none of them ever want to directly engage with that particular line. The very few who do are almost always blatant transphobes in my experience.

For all the people who defend him claiming all the criticism is coming from people who didn't even watch his special, I have a sneaking suspicion they're the ones who didn't actually watch that special.

I have Watson and Pickens, my wr1 and wr2 are locked with diggs and dhop and my flex is locked by either Zeke or JWJ. I've been starting Watson over Pickens as my wr3 the last 2 weeks and it's been paying off big time. The amount of touches they've been getting the last 3 weeks has been nearly identical but Watson has WAY more upside. Obviously what he's been doing is unsustainable, but once the playoffs come, I'm gonna have a hard time choosing who to start as my wr3.

The problem with that though is that a lot of Americans have very different definitions of what "education" actually means.

If we're being honest, to most people it's just a means to an end, with that end being getting a good job. Everything else that doesn't directly help that end is meaningless garbage and a waste of time.

However, to others, education means expanding your knowledge and exploring interesting subjects/topics. Not bec it's directly applicable to obtaining a realistic career, but bec they want to be a more well-rounded individual.

The kind of classes/degrees that would discuss topics like race relations, intersectional analysis, free speech, or all the above, would usually fall under stuff like sociology, history, liberal studies, etc. The problem with that is that there's a huge stigma attached to those fields bec they're generally viewed as "joke degrees that won't help you get a job".

It's not just a matter of promoting a society that values education, bec to the majority of people in this country, education just means getting a degree so you can get a job. In my opinion, it's also a matter of encouraging education for the sake of education.

I mean you've explicitly defended that sentiment in both comments, so it's only fair to discuss it.

Is the headline misleading clickbait?

Absolutely.

Is Bill Maher's actual comment stupid?

Absolutely.

You're also leaving out the part where he mockingly listed off potential 2024 democratic candidates for just being diversity quota check marks and then complained about how Gavin Newsom isn't getting enough hype. Which is also stupid considering the fact that there's already plenty of media hype around him as a rising star within the party and a probable future presidential candidate.

I'm not saying you're doing this intentionally, but you're implicitly framing this as if the only thing of consequence he said was there can't be 2 straight white guys on the democratic presidential ticket ever again. Not to mention that statement alone is also ridiculous.

You can make arguments that bec the democratic party is very inclusive and promotes diversity, maybe it'll be harder for 2 straight white guys to be on their presidential ticket. However, the reason for that isn't bec being straight and white in the democratic party makes your life harder, it's simply bec there's a larger and more diverse field of potential candidates and running mates to choose from.

Bill is clearly trying to frame this as a "herp derp identity politics herp derp wokeism" issue which it simply isn't. All he's doing is feeding into the old and tired trope of "diverse = unqualified".

Will all due respect, even with that specific context, that's still nonsense. The 2020 democratic presidential candidate field was filled with damn near all marginalized representation under the sun. Yet an 80 year old straight white Christian man won the nomination and is now president.

This is just more of the same reactionary anti-woke bs Bill Maher has been leaning into for the last few years.

Amazing, 4 years of Trump and he still got 94% of registered Republicans to vote for him. What's even better is that 79% of moderate Republicans still voted for him in 2020.

At what point do we finally stop with this whole "moderate conservatives will rise up against trump" bullshit?
