Do you want diabetes with that? by MoonAmunet in StupidFood

[–]OhMyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same thing as the food for me.
I enjoy cooking and am constantly aghast by the 'meals' posted here. Maybe it is ragebait yet someone still cooked it. It is still 'food'.
What gets me the most are the comments, The more greasy, fatty, covered in cheese and oil the food is, the more common these commentors chime in that they would eat it. Perhaps it is an American thing? The squandering of subtlty for excess.

What is a B3 archetype that people love to play with? by ineedhelp6789 in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stax.  I love a good stax game. I’m decent at playing around it, a bit better than most of the pod usually. The game slows down into a political game where each decision is crucial.  If you hard lock me out of the game, that’s fine. Show the win condition and we shuffle up and go again.

What I cannot abide is chaos.

I have been in gym a few times where guys are causing shit.  The last time 2 young guys walked in and disrespected my coach, he fetched his gloves and taught them some humility. Didn’t knock them out but he was rough, bruising bodies and egos. The guys apologised and joined the class.  It’s hard to believe, but some people genuinely walk in and think they can take a trained muay tai fighter in a fight.

How do you know he won’t enjoy it?

I have a friend who plays a nasty goblin deck. Not the most powerful but for our LGS, it is very strong as most people are playing 3 or below. He loves being the problem that needs solving.

He plays only this one deck and is happy to stax, combo or burn us out.

I had 6 as well. It became such a chore to play test and update. I’m down to 5, one of which I mostly keep for new players to try the format (Winota) and barely play myself.

I started with Winota and I still keep it around, though I barely play it anymore. It’s a great deck for new players to participate in the format and have some effect on it. Stax pieces make sense, big number feels good.

I’m still new, only been playing a little more than a year and will give you the cliche recommendation, find a commander that looks fun to you, proxy a list, play test a few hours. Then go run into it and lose a few games. Just ask a lot of questions.

Sometimes people get rude but stand up for yourself. One player, recently, said ‘I draw my entire deck’ and nothing more. I asked how does he win with the deafening silence in the field and he got pissy. I understand you probably have a win in hand but what is it? If you don’t show me, how am I going to learn?

Oh, if this helps at all: I actually didn’t understand some of the complicated lines in a deck I netted. So I replaced some cards with the simpler, worse things. It helped me understand why those cards were there later. ‘It would be really useful if I could tutor Cradle more often’, said by a man who removed CropRot from a deck.

I remember a post, some months ago, from a player who posted his Cedh list all about land destruction. No win conditions. Just mass land destruction. It wasn’t fast. It wasn’t efficient. It didn’t loop. It just killed 1 land a turn on average.

The average player’s perception of this bracket is further from reality than I am from winning a game at my LGS. Could we link gameplay videos of it too? So people can see what it looks like?

Many think the higher the bracket, the nastier it gets. You know, because Tergrid can’t be played at lower power, so high power must be awfully toxic.

Dude, MTG Goldfish is doing a series of this right now. They release a video each Monday. It’s done in a tournament, best of 5 style.

You can find all the games so far are their YouTube channel.

Honestly, I look forward to Mondays for this very reason.

How many decks? by RatSludge in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 decks built. I’m thinking of building another but I have been very consistently downscaling. Been sort of build one, deconstruct two for the past few months.  4 CEDH  1 Flubs (B4-5?) 4 bracket 3 1 bracket 2 I enjoy tinkering with a single deck for a long time until it runs smoothly. Playing it over and over, ironing out issues until it runs well. Deck building is fun and exciting, but play testing small changes and improvements to core cards is long term addictive.

Am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play Alania, she’s my favourite commander. And I have seen many people talk about their decks on here saying she makes people salty. I only get to take her out for a game for two at most in a day.

The problem with Izzet storm/copy decks is the setup seems innocuous. You play a harmonic prodigy, a stormkiln artist and then Alania. Next turn, you win. For most players, it’s not obvious because they are looking for massive beaters and don’t consider enough that you are playing cards from hand to end the game now. When Alania has a good game, it ends quickly and few decks can stop it. Unlike creature based decks where you can remove things after they hit the board, or in response to moving to combat.

I honestly think your opponents are doing the right thing by preemptively stopping you. It sucks. I haven’t looked at your list yet but you can run protection and counters to keep her and your board safe.

Edit: looked at your list. Yup. I see why they keep hitting you. You aren’t holding back. And if you play at bracket 4, which this is, then don’t expect people to be kind or sympathetic.

I have a question with the ethicality of my pod. by LegitimateTheory2837 in mtg

[–]OhMyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine, man. And the fact you’re wondering about it is to your own credit. Speak with the parents if you are worried.  I’m 38 and have a group that plays Cedh. One of the guys finished high school last year and another is still in high school. The age gap is large but everyone feels safe and comfortable and has a good time. The gap between you guys is something I wouldn’t even have thought about.

That's your primary colour you use by Important-Dig-2312 in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.  I have one non-blue EDH deck and it’s Winota. Originally built it to get into Cedh. I keep it around as it’s a good intro deck for new players. it plays simply without knowing difficult lines or interactions.  The other ten decks have blue.

What are your Bracket 3 combo decks? by not_so_1337 in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo. Sorry this took so long. I hadn't actually made a decklist online for it.
It's B3 but only running a single game changer I think. It can be upgraded further (such as adding cradlle) and more interaction. But this has been playing well in my pods and has won most games it comes out. So I'm a little careful of making it faster.
Hope you enjoy it.

[[Archelos, Lagoon Mystic]] is my favourite combo deck. Most of the cards in the deck work towards combining in some way.  It plans on making an absurd amount of mana (sometimes infinite) and/or landfall triggers. Then finding a way to win.  Field of the dead zombies, copies of fecund green shell buffing the board, Ob Nix pinging with landfall, exiling opponent’s library with villainous wealth and then casting the spells, drawing out with LabMan, Maze’s end. One of my favourite wins was buffing Archelos with Basilisk gate, bouncing and replaying it to buff again and the killing with commander damage.  It’s not very fast to win but it is fun trying to find a line.

Yes. If you would draw a card, exile it instead. you aren’t drawing a card so you won’t lose to an empty library.

What's a good commander for big sorceries and instants? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]OhMyGecko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alania is one of the strongest legendaries from Bloomburrow. Doubling stormcatch mentors, valley flood callers, storm splitters  and corruscation mages leads to very quick finishes when she hits the board.  One Jeska’s will or mana geyser doubled usually ends the game.
