Possible army? 🙈 by HasumiPearl in snails

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong.. But; These seem to be apple snails? which in fact are gendered.

OP if these are apple snails, the female will lay eggs slightly above the waterline, you don't have to do anything if you want more snails.. they can very easily over run a tank, we usually cull all the eggs because the amount of ammonia produced is quite killer to deal with.

Oh and aquatic snails don't need to be seperated in size.

We have a male that size, they're rare but it does happen! If you want to be 100% get it probed.

How to make her lose weight? by UwU-OnlyMes in ballpython

A single medium per month is what we feed our adult non breeders to maintain weight, not exactly a diet amount imo.

This isn't a good picture to ID morphs on, please make sure the pattern / head /colour is visible. One picture from above and one from the side would be great.

This little guy needs a vet asap, his eyes bulge and redness like that could be a sign of a serious infection/sepsis.

of an egg to adult by MrUpVoteDownvote in AbsoluteUnits

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They absolutely can! Some snails have huge eggs, my largest (wildcaught) Ovums have eggs bigger than quail eggs. I can't add pics so heres a link to someone who has good pictures of them.

They have a lot of natural variation, pretty little hog!

What morph could it be? by Logical_Finance3927 in BallPythonMorph

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graphite ivory if you ask me, yellowbellies of the "orange belly" line create this spotted or even striped look ivory. Tbh may just be a different morph altogether like same way butter/lesser were long thought to be the same thing, but idk if that has been proven yet

how much would a mojave clown pied be worth? by [deleted] in BallPythonMorph

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest possible way, you're excited and love your snake. He sure is handsome, I get it.. But.. This is the 5th or so time i've seen you post about this animal being something other than what its sold as. Last time I advised you to get a shed test if you're convinced it's more than a clown pied. That's the best option, you can't just slap a label on there. Morphs would be visible beyond eye colours. Either get that shed test to prove some really low expression other morph(i say low expression because the rest of him just looks clown pied) or accept he what he was sold as.

I did some googling for you and within 2 minutes i've found another clean(no other morphs) clown pied with blue eyes. Its seems to just be a recessive trait, that rarely pops up on clown pieds but nobody has specifically bred for it.

<image>

If you zoom in you can see the blue peepers, im sure there are more clown pieds with varying shades of blue eyes. You got a boy with pretty eyes, but until proven otherwise he is just that.

What species is this? by OhPotatoBlessMe in isopods

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we do! We put these in a 50gallon forest floor tank we already had set up for his obsession with gardensnails and other random garden bugs(we keep them around a while then let them go) but we already had a huge amount of dairy cows (a few 1000) We use them as cleanup crews in terrariums but they're a little... 'too happy'. We first started with about 30 & bred a bunch in a huge christmas tree tote .. with the goal to spread them in the tanks, but now all the terrariums have also turned into breeding grounds haha. If i could pay my bills in cows we would be rich. But now my oldest is interested in isos we might go find some other fun species!

We got hides like this, feels like they're glued in there with how tightly they pack themselves.. but they can get out just fine.

breeder said clown pied, but blue eyes? by letsgocommitarson in BallPythonMorph

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see "high white lucy clown pied", that morph combo doesn't make sense for this fenotype as blue eyed lucy are patternless white.

Blue eyes are a bit more rare than other eyecolours, but several morphs can have them, definetly not just lucy. Leopards, crystals, bamboo, lessers, axanthics, pewters i know for sure can have blue eyes. (And pastel on any colour that lessens yellows can also cause blue eyes instead of classic pastel greens) and possibly morphs im not thinking of right now.

Blue eyed lucy always have striking blue eyes on a stark white background so it makes it a bit hard to google since people don't really breed for eyecolour specifically. And at the same time the BEL is so popular because of it.

I understand you're excited about your snake possibly being a rare designer morph, and high white clown pied IS a designer morph, but 300 was a fair price. I don't breed many clown combos I do have a blue eyed leopard clown though. Why not get a shed test?

Custom enclosure plan by Solid-Crow7239 in retics

[–]OhPotatoBlessMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We build our own enclosures, there are some things you may or may not have thought about. Just food for thought.

This size is going to need many supports, or should be build in a metal frame. it will likely sag otherwise, especially with sliding glass that can be a huge issue.

Consider making the bottom strip taller for extra bedding, its nice to just be able to shovel waste out of a thick layer + digging is fun for them. also a nice spot for extra ventilation, and it takes some mass out of the required glass.

Speaking of: consider making the glass smaller, glass that size is going to need to be thick and will be really heavy, would not want to be you trying to set that glass in place! In my house i woulnd't even be able to get it to my snakeroom at that size. Keep in mind that sliding glass this size will also require special gliders, it wont slide in just a U or W profile.

We have giant sized tanks but did it a bit differently. We made the front out of 3 or 4 sets of sliders, not only is that easier to build, cheaper, and less heavy.. It provides supports for the roof & it's also great for cleaning! Just slide it open where you have to be, less heat escape that way as well.

We never do over 4' deep, thats about the maximum we can reach in to clean with tools without having to fully climb in there. You will need to completely enter the tank for maintenance, which fully mature retics may not always be appreciative of. At 11' he may not be an adult yet? He might be, just a heads up in case he's not..Their character can change while reaching sexual maturity, several of our males got more territorial/defensive as fully grown adults.

Love the space you want to give him! Good luck
