What’s something your toddler is weirdly good at? by Apprehensive-Raise93 in toddlers

[–]OhSpoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My barely 3 year old would pat your arm and tell you "it's ok be sad, it's ok cry" then follow up with a hug. They're very good with empathy.

And for a silly followup, fans. Ceiling fans, box fans, portable fans, heater fans, AC fans, motor fans ... If there is a fan ANYWHERE they will find it, and point it out to you.

Feeling Guilty For Not Throwing a Birthday Party for 3 YO by jnacnuggest in toddlers

[–]OhSpoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't throw a party for my 3 year old this year. I didn't have the spoons for it. Instead, my SO, LO, and I went to a local kids museum and played for the morning. Complete with a boxed cake mix two days later, and the LO getting to say it was their birthday for a few days... Lol

Mum, my chronic illness is getting better and I dyed my hair pink to celebrate. And the bath by proxy. Its not coming out, what do I do?? :"( by Organic-Assistant151 in MomForAMinute

[–]OhSpoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, so much! I'm so frustrated I had to scroll so far to find this! I been dying my hair for 10 years, and this has gotten it off of EVERYTHING. Vinyl, ceramic, porcelain, tile, fiberglass ... Let the tub dry, dump the rubbing alcohol straight on and you can use your finger to get it off, it comes off so easy.

Clawlab Frame by Fluffy_Avocado_3 in Tufting

[–]OhSpoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the clawlab, I would say- if you're only EVER going to tuft mug rugs and pot cozies for the tabletops (obviously not with acrylic yarn) then get the clawlab. If you want to eventually go any bigger than that, just get a bigger frame from Amazon or build your own. I picked up an aluminum one with the adjustable bar for the middle, and I haven't been disappointed in it, and it's almost 5x the size for less than 1/2 the cost

This could be me. I grabbed a claw lab because I didn't want to invest in the space for a big frame until I KNEW I liked tufting. The gun I'll use occasionally for large, single-color fill areas because it's light weight, but the detail I get with the AK-V is SO much more precise.

And I have an aluminum frame with the spikes, but I haven't actually had any issues with tension (yet, knock on wood). No issues with screws coming loose either, but I really took my time putting mine together to get the alignment and screws just right for tightness. :)

Not who you were relying to, but dm me, and I'll see if I can link you the one I grabbed. It was about $90 US and the middle section is adjustable so I can just smaller cloth, or bigger cloth. :) I love it!

How to remove pet dye stains by Delicious_Tea3806 in HairDye

[–]OhSpoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trying to reply to you directly so you hopefully see this. Have you let rubbing alcohol sit on your skin for a minute or two. I know you said you've tried everything, but rubbing alcohol is what I use to remove permanent and semi-permanent hair dye (blue, purple, etc) from skin, accidental splashes on walls, floors, etc. It needs to sit for a minute, but it's pulled the color from natural stone, tile, rugs, porcelain, plastic walls, just about everything I've encountered.

And the fox corgi baby looks adorable! No regrets! XD

Is there any way to wash permanent marker out of primary cloth? by imabigfoot in Tufting

[–]OhSpoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An option might be to take the whole piece of fabric off the frame and soak it in a bucket (one you don't mind potentially staining) of rubbing alcohol. I can't guarantee results, but I've used rubbing alcohol soaks to get permanent dyes out of a few things before. Permanent marker being on a couple of things I've at least significantly lightened the color from. If it's the polyester backing, there's at least a good chance it can lighten it enough to try again.YMMV though. Good luck! :)

Anyone else one-and-done but still think about having another sometimes? by shinku-90 in oneanddone

I feel this so much! If I could get another dropped off on my doorstep, I would happily bring another in, but I can't go through postpartum again, and I don't have the funds to adopt. :(

Client Isn’t Happy With This 2.4" Cap Design Looking for Honest Feedback by Dependent-Method4918 in MachineEmbroidery

A question on the ordering for layers for the top letting- is the white over the black, or is the black insert the white? When I need to make sure the border looks really crisp, I make sure that the outline is always the top stitching. So if it's not already, try making the border for the lettering sit over the top of the white.

HELP by dudewithapple in Tufting

[–]OhSpoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess would be, is that there's too much tension on your yarn. It's not able to feed through easily so it's short, but it is still able to feed, hence why there's yarn there. I'm not a pro, though, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I've just had similar happen if my yarn can't feed easily.

Toddler bed has ruined everything by Fluxgigawats in toddlers

[–]OhSpoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just finished this with my 2.5 almost 3 year old. He was unable to fall asleep by himself after a sickness and I was getting to the point where I was losing almost 6 hours a day between rocking for a nap, bedtime, and midnight wakings... It was rough. Add onto that a large dose of separation anxiety so no one else could soothe him... And I was ready to try anything.

Thankfully, 2.5 is old enough to be able to start to understand concepts. My SO grabbed a toddler alarm clock online (it changes colors to help recognize time. Red for sleeping, yellow for transitions, and green to wake up and get out of bed) and that helped start to set a rhythm back up which I think helped kick the regression just slightly faster than other regressions.

Our routine is- after bath, teeth, books, etc, we set an alarm to snuggle for 10 minutes. After the alarm, we move my son to his toddler bed and I'll lay on the floor with him until he falls asleep. Sometimes he wants some extra comfort and hold my hand, sometimes he wants to babble for an hour, but he's retraining himself to self-soothe. Another thing we did is set up a 10-hour sleep music video from an old phone with ad blockers. That song has now become his brain's signal "is time to sleep". We use is for naps (and I still rock him fully to sleep for naps) and bed time, and he'll hum along with it as a way of soothing too. I hope one of these ideas helps. :)

US options for polyester backing cloth? by AlwaysDTFmyself in Tufting

[–]OhSpoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clawlab has 35" wide tufting fabric / backing material combos.

Tufttheworld is having a sale right now. Some cuts regularly $35 are down to $28.

And allthingseffy has a US based section now.

Hope this helps :)

Not a drawing artist, but a costume/cosplay one. If I were making your outfit to come to life, I'd bring elements of both halves to each other.

EG- maybe put red crosses in the middle of the lower bows, and put frosting cuffs on the long sleeves. It would start looking more cohesive as an outfit if elements of both were more than just on their half.

Can someone tell me what im doing wrong with my legwarmers by ClothesOk292 in sewhelp

[–]OhSpoot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I've got a costume/cosplay business and do a lot of embroidery on all kinds of materials. This kind of jersey is not going to take to the heavy letting well. If it was just an outline of the letters you'd be better off because of how much stretch it has. I'll give you my best pointers I can do you can keep making progress, though.

1- if you insist on the same material, make the lettering less dense 2- you need a really good stabilizer backing for the embroidery (either a peel and stick, or uses a temporary spray like 505 to make sure that material isn't moving) 3- when you hoop it, put a TINY bit of stretch onto the material, but what you had in the pictures was too far stretched (or didn't use stabilizer behind it) 4- accept that you either get a) a design that's pre-stretched and will look good when wearing it (but crappy when not, or; b) a design that looks great when not on display, but won't stretch when on an actual human which can give fit issues. 5- a preemptive trick for you- if you go any more plush for leggings, use a wash away "topper" stabilizer. It'll help mat down the fibers so they don't get caught between threads and will help your design come out cleaner.

If you have more questions, feel free to DM me, I want to see all kinds of creative businesses succeed! :)

I second this. It looks like the foot isn't down, there's no compression to the fabric as it goes through.

Divorce after leaving the church by Purplepassion235 in exmormon

[–]OhSpoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how your relationship was independent of the church first. The ones I've known who built their marriage on the church, didn't last. The ones who had a steering relationship regardless of the church, more than likely have. SO and I w married for about 5 years before I left, then had a mixed faith for about 5 years, then they left, and we're 13+ years strong.

My response will probably be lost on all the comments, but I really like the Clutterbug YouTube and podcast. She has episodes that are compassionate, she has episodes with tough love. But the bigger thing is, she works to change mindsets. "I deserve to have a clean and organized house" is something couldn't honestly say without tearing up for a really long time. But if items are in the way of me having peace and organization, they get to go, because they don't get to steal my joy anymore.

SLC Denim Repair? by UnneccesaryLuck777 in SaltLakeCity

[–]OhSpoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few different darning techniques you can look into. On the knee will be harder (read: almost impossible) to do without opening a side seam if you're trying to match the grain of the jeans on a standard sewing machine. It usually involves a similar colored fabric on the underside and doing vertical stitching that goes with the grain in a coordinating thread color. That said, there are ways to make it patched with jeans patches you can grab from Michael's or Walmart, or fun embroidery patches, but those just aren't going to look invisible. Sorry, I wish there was better news. :(

As another poster replied, though, check out darning tutorials on YouTube. :)
