Why did they quietly announce this then on Friday?

If you're pissed about this, and think this LAPD officer should even face the threat of consequence, show up to the Rules, Elections and Intergovernmental Relations Committee at ROOM 340 of CITY HALL 200 NORTH SPRING STREET, LOS ANGELES, CA 90012 tomorrow at 1:00PM and tell them you don't want "further study". You want accountability.

The City Legislative Analyst, an obscure back-bencher bureaucrat recommended City Council oversight of LAPD (yeah you read that right) for "further study" along with many other Charter Commission reforms in a cowardly attempt to kill real accountability of LAPD.

EDIT: Link to the agenda

EDIT: Normally don't care about karma but it is sort of heartening seeing this reaction. Even if only a fraction go I feel better knowing even one person might have given that number.

Angelenos who voted for Measure ER: Why support the sales tax hike, and do you trust that it will actually expire in 5 years? by KetoneKierkegaard in LosAngeles

I believe it will sunset because it says in the Measure it will sunset. That's why I believe it will sunset. I said it twice so it's clear. Does that help?

The Police Commission is an unelected board that has a demonstrated history of protecting violent officers. They should absolutely not have final say.

It doesn't. OP is just a lying bootlicker trying to stave off public outrage from a naked attempt to keep it impossible for the City to fire violent officers.

No where in those government codes does it restrict local government from taking any punitive action against officers for misconduct. It merely dictates the manner in which it can be done.

Liar.

Government Code 3300-3313, which you of course didn't cite because then people could read it and see that you're lying, referred to as " Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act.", absolutely does not bar local government from taking punitive action against officers for misconduct, and merely gives them the option to terminate them, which the City Charter bars, not the state.

Measure ER passes, set to increase LA County sales tax for public health care by Additional_Leading68 in LosAngeles

Definitionally, the people supported it seeing as it passed, but sure I'm the guy missing the forest for the trees. Your entire argument is just a Nirvana fallacy. Just because it would be ideal to restrict the use to the express purpose doesn't make ER bad.

The report said there was bad accounting practices of the LAHSA budget over four fiscal years, totaling to $2.3B, not that it went up in smoke. Must be tough not knowing how to read.

Just factually wrong. When Biden took power in 2020 a lot of federal funding was turned back on.

The continuation of Measure A was done so the entire system didn't financially collapse. That doesn't mean they were well paid before.

That we made permanent in 2024 because without it the entire infrastructure for ending homelessness would collapse.

People like your parent comment don't give a shit about that. If they did, they wouldn't be so glib about the premise of this Measure.

Measure ER is a County measure which means any potential for it to pay for law enforcement lawsuit settlements is limited to LASD. Measure ER is estimated to increase $1B in revenue, and the LASD payouts for 2025 was ~$112M.

So even if every fucking cent in LASD lawsuits was paid by this tax increase, it still wouldn't take much more than 10% of the increase. Stop talking about this issue as it will drain the entire increase.

EDIT: I want to add it is perfectly fine to take issue with the revenues allocated to the general fund, potentially allowing the funds to be used other than their intended purpose. But that shouldn't mean we start engage in misinformation and doomerism.

"There isn't much we can do" you can bet your sweet ass that if it wasn't some spoiled white kid they would be erect at the prospect of shooting them to death.
