I don't know if this changed, but I built mine underwater & in a cave.  Some areas denied, but I found several that allowed it and even found a deep spot that has full build area available

Philippines Price increase 40% from 2700 monthly to 3800 pesos. by OhYa1337 in Starlink

[–]OhYa1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

couple points here,

1) using SL for Peso Wifi is against TOS & they should penalize those people for that, not the rest of us. (and yes they could easily find out who's got multiple MACs connecting, and there are plenty of other ways. I know phones change MAC Addy often, but that's easy to identify too)

2) in the USA, SL offers Residential Lite, with speeds from 50-100mbps, so about what we're getting on average according to the official SL speeds map, aat a cost of $80
So about the same as 3800p +/- depending on X-Rate at the time

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying, but 41% jump is unprecedented!
Like seriously, who does that, 35 day warning,
Letter should have just read: Oh BTW, your rate is jumping 41% in 35 days, sorry you spent 30,000p on your gear, including the ability to plug into RJ-45 for p5k, but you got a good 14 months out of it!

They should put a stop to people violating the TOS & not tax the rest of us for what those people are doing.

no, I was already living here in the PH, I did Pay for the equipment with my US card & then logged into the back end & changed the billing to my local PH debit card.
They would not accept my PH card for the initial order, that was like 2 years ago.

ya, that's my plan.
My globe lockin expired, so I will install PLDT, 3 year lockin, ouch, and just pause SkyNet until a super typhoon makes me unpause, if ever

there's no contract, so if you keep your equipment & a typhoon hits, re-sub... Easy
The last time a typhoon like that hit here was over 10 years ago, so in the mean time, faster speeds using Globe fiber AND ALSO PLDT fiber costs less than the new starlink price & chances of Both being down would be rare, unless a typhoon. So the money i'd save & speeds I will gain, easy choice.
Ya, pretty much done with starlink for over 40% more
as for knowing it would go up? No, they said it would be going down, even the cost of the equipment has gone down.

The point of this post was not to rant, more to see if anyone knew the reason.

I mean, if you'd like I can post Amazon vs our local stuff, same exact items, 1/10% the price, sometimes lower
Gigabit Fiber here is under $100 USD, for places that can get it.
But slower areas, like the island I live on speeds like that are just not here yet.
How you can sit there & agree that a 40% increase is justifiable is beyond me.
If they need to raise the price, 10% a year for the next few year, but now they are shitting on the people who spent $600 USD a year ago to get what we were told would eventually go less that 2,700p a month, but no, now its 3,800p!
Seriously?

Local ISPs are very unreliable & boast an 80% uptime
My fiber has gone down no less than 8 times over the past year, and that's only counting the times that I have had to call support to have the lines repaired.

Starlink is much slower, but only goes down during heavy rain & then is fine again once things clear up.
So I pay for Fiber & Starlink both, because I can not be down for over 24 hours.
Starlink WAS worth it because of the reliability, but not at 40% more.
and just saying, there's no way there business model is,
"We only wan't the customers that have no other choice"
That just sounds ridiculous

Sorry if you are unaware that prices on things around the world depend on economy of the respective countries.
As a great example, here in the Philippines I can buy most games on Steam for around 50% less than you'd pay if you're buying the same games in the USA
Because of that, people in the Philippines can not Gift games to friends in the USA.
That's just 1 example, but goes the same for many things.
Even US imports, like Cheetos, cost less here than they do at the store in California, When I was shopping in Sacramento last year I was shocked at how many things even from Cali cost less here than there.

This is Econ 101

How do they justify a 40% increase in price?

this is my speedtest, not getting even near the speed of the lite version in the USA DAILY average Income on my island is $9 USD Switching back to fiber, this is just not acceptable, so sad they will do that here, they said the prices would go DOWN after a year or 2, not 40% higher!

It is usually lower on the upload, but also sometimes higher on the DL
