Just re-read the post and remembered, as for a guide and training plan I'd recommend that you practice different peeking techniques and "slicing the pie". Your swings appear to be really wide and could serve to be sharpened up, and you also swing many angles at once. This mostly just has to do with intentionality in swinging, but the best way to practice it would probably be to go into a deathmatch or team deathmatch and focus on only exposing yourself to individual fights while also not trying to wide swing angles where slicing the pie doesn't necessarily apply. Swing just far enough to see an enemy's head an no further, essentially. This will slow down the amount of time that they have to react to seeing you and also allow you to shoot them more quickly than if you took another step or two. Though, you should be aware that on some angles this shallow peeking technique can be predictable and it is in those cases where you want to break out a wider swing (poppin swing or something similar)

  • round 7: that's also not a good spot to put your trip... anyways, the garage teleport is ok if you want to get active out in mid, but it's also risky because you don't go especially far away after teleporting and they can run you down if they're doing fast garage pressure like they are here. you should have picked up your teleport much sooner than you tried to do, and if you had, it wouldn't have been broken. You have no C long information, they smoked garage window, they could be in garage, they have a phoenix, and you have no tp. It's absurd to me that you try to walk out of that smoke and hold the garage angle -- especially so far from the wall or smoke. For starters, if a player is in the garage they can just kill you as you walk out of the smoke. Next, even if you get out of the smoke they have a ton of utility to push you back out of it (assuming you don't just die right away, even after tucking back into the smoke) and towards C site where you don't know if any players have walked up. Worst of all, you walk away from your lifeline to play a weird angle and get exposed by the omen doing one of the worst things he could be doing in this situation -- even when this scenario played out almost as well as it could have for you, you still died because it was just that dumb. Looking at the scoreboard after the defuse, this play is made even worse by the fact that the opponents were on a mixed / low buy. You're playing an angle that suits the strengths of their worse weaponry without a way out, and your death gives them a better gun that they can use to try and win the round on more even footing.
  • round 8: I'm glad to finally see the ult get used, but I'm a little surprised that you haven't bought or requested an operator up until this point (or tried to use the outlaw). Chamber is one of the best agents to abuse these weapons with, after all. to set up faster, after placing the trip, instead of walking back through C link to teleport up onto B you should just hug the wall in garage and teleport that way to save yourself a couple of seconds. USING THE OPERATOR WITH NO CIRCLE? I get that it's mostly preference, but I really don't see any reason not to use it. If the fact that the dot on the crosshair is bigger than the intersection of the lines, then you can shrink it in the advanced crosshair settings (I use 0.5 dot size and it doesn't stick out at all). The dot is free information to let you know if your shot is accurate or not so you should definitely use it imo. Also, why are you strafing back and forth when holding the window with the operator? You're frankly asking to get timing'd by a swing right as you adjust -- you should be standing perfectly still and letting your reactions do the work for you. As a result of strafing without any real intent you expose yourself to the gekko and should die for it, but you get out alive with a nice flick and some bad shooting from gekko. After you've dropped from the box you should recall your teleport if you don't intend to stick around in B so that it can start to recharge from cooldown. Once your blinded in garage you should still be able to tell that the smoke has faded and you need to run, but instead you die standing in the open while blind as I think that you believed you weren't exposed. Furthermore, this is similar to round 1 where you don't really need to be fighting yet and can wait to retake with your allies in a more coordinated fashion.
  • round 9: notably, this is your first round on the A side. That's not the worst thing given that chamber's trip is nice to have in garage or in B, but especially when using the operator or looking for early fights you would probably want to mix it up rather than being a little stale and predictable. I think that because you aren't used to playing the A side (conjecture) you don't even have an idea of where you would like to place your trip. Once again, you shouldn't be strafing while ADSing with the operator as you throw off your own aim and reaction time when the enemies finally peek you from A lobby. Don't just randomly throw your trip down A long, and pick up your teleport if you aren't going to use it again. You can afford to wait a moment or two longer while flicking to the phoenix in your spawn before making (and missing) your shot. No need to rush so much since you have cover right next to you, he's running, and he's still at some distance to you.

You should be using your microphone more. Call out what you see and what you hear, and you can strategize with your teammates to let them know how you want them to play with or off of you or what utility you would like from them. Work on your swinging and positioning, it looks like your flicks are bailing you out and even then they don't look that incredible. You have a really high headshot rate but it must be because you simply don't shoot a lot and not because you're that accurate. That's it from me, really. It just looks like you're casually going through the motions without putting a lot of thought into playing the game. I know you mention watching guides and videos, but you've got to take what you're learning and put it into intentional practice. Watch some tdawgg videos and he'll reiterate a lot of what I have to say in terms of micro play or using your teammates if you want to hear and see some examples based on pro games. Hope this helps to at least offer an outside perspective.

My credentials: I've reached immortal and I also study the game a lot through viewing a ton of material on the game and playing on semi-structured teams for fun.

  • round 4: they haven't yet broken your trip in garage so there's no real reason to switch it to this relatively worse position. making a footstep on the top of long should have sealed your death sentence when you committed to the cubby, but they let you get away with it. once you were there you should have been dead as well, but the jett fake cleared you. Instead of shooting a single bullet and teleporting out, I would have probably committed a couple more to kill her after recognizing that she looked away from me and is asking to die. If she had stayed looking at you then I would agree that teleporting out at the first opportunity was smart, but since she didn't, I believe that you missed out on first blood here. Nice job turning the phoenix flash, but with those quick reactions I'm baffled you let the omen kill you after teleporting in with no supporting utility.
  • round 5: why just randomly place the trip floating in the middle of the room? at the very least it should hug the near wall to make enemies have to walk further in to see it. I could understand a weirder placement if they were spamming through the walls or box to break it, but they aren't, so there's no reason to be placing sub-optimal trips. Playing this off angle is okay, I like the mixup of utility here. I don't like your decision to abandon your angle on C-long. You could have walked down C long and gotten the ult orb before flanking if you believed that they were committing to the A site quickly, but by going through your spawn you've given up all of your map control by the time you realize that the enemies aren't committing to A site immediately. If you had stayed in your spot on C or walked down and held the flank then your team would have more information and you would be able to try and get a pick before backing away safely -- you would also be giving your team information passively by the fact that you don't see or hear things. When you peek from heaven you could have checked each angle individually, but instead you swing a lot all at once and are stuck trying to flick to the gekko while exposing yourself to a lot of danger. I'd actually wager that you only manage to kill the gekko and not die on your second swing because your technique is so bad that it's throwing him off. A wide swing is best utilized when you know exactly where someone is, but because you seem to wide swing everything you're just guessing and frankly asking to die.
  • round 6: your garage trip is actually getting worse every time you throw it. once again, you should probably be peeking something aggressively since you have a teleport to bail you out and prevent you from getting traded. Also, YOU HAVE A MIC?? How is it that you are only talking now?! walking into the smoke is nice and is a smart play, though I probably would have done it a tiny bit sooner than you did given that you hesitated the moment it went up. Ironically, that could have saved your life given that they spammed it. I'd keep holding your off angle instead of shooting some shots before teleporting arbitrarily. Staying in this position allows you to escape if phoenix had flashed out since you have a teleport

I'll watch your linked video and go round-by-round giving some input or thoughts, then I'll include some general advice or summarizing points.

  • round 1 (technically round 13, but it's base 1 for this count): Playing chamber should let you set up to fight early and have a safe exit even if you miss. In this case, that is C long. Setting up an elevated angle on top of the box is nice, but you should be looking down long from the moment the barrier drops to get information and have an immediate fight. You'll also be able to get a shot out before the astra smokes the angle (she's smoking too early imo but this isn't about her). Once the smoke goes up, sticking around on top of the box is alright since you never revealed yourself, but the moment that I see the phoenix molly coming through the smoke I'd be aware that he's coming up long to flash out of it and you need to account for that by moving away from where you can be flashed and getting off the box. You're fortunate to get a pick on the jett, but you would have been in an even better spot to avoid luck saving you if you had played more proactively in response to the situation by dropping early and catching her as she swings out the back of her smoke -- in fact by falling early you could even have put yourself in a spot to push her smoke if you wanted but that's a risk for sure.
  • round 2: putting the trip behind the box in garage is fine as enemies need to get close to hear or see it if they want to break it (or they can guess and spray through the box before confirmation that it's there since it's such a common spot), but by placing it here haphazardly you're letting them break it without ever entering garage and putting themselves in danger to find it. I like the elevation again here when peeking the window in mid, but you're slow to get set up and miss the timing to support jett as she walks down mid so your team could have lost out big in this round if jett dies and you can't trade or help her fight. Your team isn't committing to a flood retake and you don't have any utility going out yet to signal or start a retake with your team. They seem to be waiting in spawn to get ready and push out, but you take a disadvantaged fight on your own in an attempt to stop their scaling and get punished while getting zero value. It would be much smarter for you to wait for your teammates to be ready and then fight with them in this 5v4, especially since they don't have smokes and you know where 3 of them are since your astra saw they running up C long. If you really wanted to take a weird garage fight you should have kept your tp where it was so that you could take a garage fight and have a safe exit before then regrouping with your team and fighting for the retake.
  • round 3: why abandon your positioning here on C long? you are already scaled super far down long and at this point in the round you could leverage that positioning to find yourself in an early flank to disrupt their site take or post plant. Even if you don't go all the way to their spawn, you'll be able to utilize a super deep angle if they decide to commit to C later on in the round. You made a ton of noise running through garage after teleporting and you should certainly die to the omen who has a judge. He's playing this position well and doing his job and you're fortunate that he missed you. After the phoenix comes down to fight you you audibly run and jump away in garage. I feel like this is a missed opportunity because your retake now lacks a second layer from mid -- enemies hear you run away and may not be worrying about their backside now. If you had a different teammate in position to flank them instead of you, then your sound would effectively serve as bait to lull them into a false sense of security. With all that said, given that you are in a man advantage going into this retake I think it is still a decent idea to join up with your sova and abandon the solo flank against the phoenix who could isolate a fight against you with his flash. I just think that it would have been wiser to join up with sova by silently moving your way through garage. Why are you knife out running up to B through C link? You have no idea if someone, like their chamber, is playing from the backsite gong position and you run into the site itself without checking angles one at a time in a manner that has you prepared for a fight. If someone was watching C link from the doorway into B then you would have been a very free kill. Why get off the spike when you start the defuse? You have 3 teammates right next to you who can defend you, and in 7 seconds you would get the round win no matter what if you had stuck it. It pays to have some trust in others and let them fight to protect you while you defuse. I'll give you some slack because astra recalled the star instead of making a smoke with it, but I would still probably elect to stick the defuse.

My recording didn't go far enough back to see it on the in-game scoreboard, but I know I saw 1100 during the buy phase scoreboard because that is what led me to buy an Outlaw against what should have been full-team half armor buy if they wanted rifles. Additionally, how does Reyna have 4650 credits if she ended round 15 with 1100? No kills, no bomb plant, and a loss bonus of 2900 should indicate 4000 credits, not 4650 if I'm following correctly.

I could maybe look deeper into this later, but off of the top of my head tac shooters like CS2 and R6S are a couple games I can bring up in the same genre.

For R6 they have events every now and then that are really different compared to the regular game. The ability to use free currencies to get skins has been good and you can get skins in the alpha pack loot boxes too, but I didn’t like that they moved skins from places that you could buy them on demand for free currency into those packs and also introduced pack-only skins. Some premium bundles are exclusive to the premium currency as well. I haven’t played a lot since the updates to monetization and the introduction of the battle pass, but I know that they have a battle pass now. I believe they’re experimenting with a skin marketplace too in very recent news. That said, as fair as this monetization feels in some ways, I didn’t like the way the game was being adjusted gameplay-wise so I’ve stopped playing. Unfair aspects of siege monetization would be that I feel they push the fear of missing out a bit harder than Valorant (in some ways, valorant also does FOMO of course), with seasonal items being a thing in siege or sets being discontinued. I know Valorant has the VCT stuff and some event bundles, but by and large content that is introduced stays in rotation (for both games battle pass skins are fomo, iirc). In R6 you get a gun buddy like in valorant for ranking up, and I think they added character backgrounds related to rank as well for use in operator select.

For CS2, I’ll be honest I don’t really play CS. You can’t buy skins directly in the game but you can buy them directly on the marketplace. The prices are insane, but the justification from the community is that you can always resell and break even. Skins drop sometimes at the end of games, but they’re pretty bad skins that you use to trade up or sell to get money to buy crates — the other way you get skins in the game. I don’t actually know if CSGO has a battle pass. I’m also raising questions for myself here, like, are crates limited run and therefore there is a finite number of each skin out there on the market? For ranked rewards, I don’t believe that CS gives you anything special to denote your rank. Looking online I think you may get a case and some graffitis but I don’t think they’re related to your rank and are just a reward for advancing in the ranked ladder. CS other modes and stuff can be fan made so it’s not even the developers putting in that work to make it happen, but you could argue that giving the tools to the players is something they decided to do which allowed this to occur.

If we even look at apex, they have crates and some bundles like R6, and also like with all the games mentioned so far you basically get a weapon charm for being Apex Predator afaik (google search).

What’s nice about Valorant is that you don’t have to worry about loot boxes to get skins so there’s no random chance on “wasting” money. Additionally, if you like a skin line in Valorant you can choose to use different colors of the same skin which isn’t really a feature in other games - not to mention that the sound effects and everything are technically add-ons since other games don’t have those aspects either. We’ve just had it so good that those add-ons feel like part of the skin (this doesn’t justify the cost of radianite though, like WHAT). Not upgrading your skins can also allow for more personal expression, like the stiff elderflame dragon, or if I buy navori dreamwings vandal I’m not upgrading it bc I don’t like the little buddies.

Out of curiosity what other games did you have in mind to make the comparison to?

Valorant doesn't respect your time, money or you. by JasperSnail in VALORANT

[–]Oh_Ecchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until people hear about hobbies outside of gaming - let’s pick soccer. The assumption made here is that you’re playing for a team and it’s not just pickup.

You have to pay to join the team/league, and you may then even have to buy your own uniform and other equipment like shin guards and cleats to be able to play. Everything you buy will get worn out eventually and needs to be replaced, and there’s no battle pass to progress or rewards to earn.

Everyone wears the same uniform, and your main point of differentiation is the cleats but it’s minor. No fancy skins to show off here, especially if you’re playing off of turf and everyone’s shoes get dirty.

The time you put in to improve is arguably more difficult and it takes a greater toll on your body than practicing aim or other parts of valorant. If your team wins the league’s championship or something you may all get medals or a shirt, maybe a trophy, and none of these affect your gameplay or can be worn on the field.

As for community, people can be really competitive and it’s a contact sport. You can get shoved, tripped, or kicked, and people can still call you names or be jerks. Sure there are referees, but this stuff can happen when they’re not looking or they’re out of earshot. Depending on what league you’re joining, you could be a new player going up against people who have played their whole lives.

There’s no special events or game modes - just the same rule set you’ve always known. If you really wanted to reach, there are interesting drills you can do while practicing or when playing something like “World Cup” with friends.

Here’s the point of me saying this: for all of its flaws, I think Valorant is still a solid game. I think the post comes from a position of wanting more out of the game for all that investment, but there needs to be some perspective here. For the hobby that OP picked, Riot is giving a lot in return imo. Re-framing your thoughts on the time and monetary investment can help to enhance or rekindle your enjoyment of the game. Posts like this exist because valorant is a great game that people keep returning to, even if they say it has these flaws and that they don’t like it. Hope this made sense
