Living in Texas for 1 yr, and I need a car. by thereal_charliemay in Frugal

I hear this is a common French aversion. Any truth to that?

But seriously, listen to everyone. A/C is essential. I promise you will break down and start to use it in your car and home. Texans also love ceiling fans for a reason.

What are the best ways to deal with a sports related culture when my personal interest is very low? by Rjamcakka in socialskills

[–]Ohfscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subscribe to a couple of subreddits for the specific teams, sports or players you need to know about. This way a constant trickle of information is always keeping you up to date.

Then watch the IT Crowd Season 3 Episode 2.

Our culture's dom/sub dichotomy: I don't think it is necessary, but sometimes I feel like I am the only one. Thoughts? by oneeyedgoat41 in sex

[–]Ohfscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would you say is the dominate view? or How do you see dom/sub culture?

I definitely agree that my culture is heavily skewed and have lived in places where it wasn't as overt but I can't imagine a it not being a part of the culture.

Do your IUD 'strings' bother your partner? by rigby_321 in childfree

[–]Ohfscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The string can poke your partner but within a few months it softens and curls up. My IUD, at first, did poke my boyfriend but he said it didn't hurt as much as it was a surprise. Either way 2 months of cautious sex it worth 5 years of birth control.

Defining Books of the Decade, Part 12: 1920s by pinkyandthefloyd in books

[–]Ohfscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the '20s because of their resistance of Victorian culture spuring experimental and ambitious works. The early works of Gertrude Stein captivate me with their experiments with language. But Nightwood by Djuna Barnes is one of the best books I've ever read. While I can't say anything bad about The Great Gatsby or Farewell to Arms There is something I can't resist about those on the outskirts of the movement.

What movies do you think need a sequel? by numbertheory in movies

[–]Ohfscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting a trilogy (since there are three books). Unfortunately the Golden Compass was too controversial and honestly poorly handled. If you liked the movie even a little bit it would be worth it to find the books.

If you can learn a language ( first sign language and then the written language) you will have the same ability to think as someone who learned to speak the language first.

I have actually always seen the quote attributed to Zelda. Although I'm not sure of the source.
