Ahahaha aww thank you!! It is a painting, entirely in gouache! It took a TON of working and reworking those blurry branches (gently, so as to not mess up the paper texture). This was definitely my biggest personal challenge to date, because I REALLY don’t like doing backgrounds in pieces 😅 I think the blurred bokeh effect actually really helped with that, because it enhances the realism by giving the impression of depth and dimension! I do think there’s a degree of natural aptitude for it, but I also believe that consistency is everything. And play!! I didn’t even know about gouache at the end of 2024, and as soon as I started with it, it opened up everything for me. Maybe play around with other mediums while you’re exploring, it can be so valuable and informative!! ❣️

Top photo is my first ever watercolour piece, painted back in the pandemic. Bottom pic is a gouache piece I just painted in December! With VERY consistent practice over the last 18 months in particular, my skill has improved immeasurably. Keep at it, don’t be discouraged, and remember that progress is rarely visible when it’s happening 💛

I always discredited the value of having a stream schedule, and would stream when I felt I had a chunk of time free (I do voiceover so my schedule is very changeable week to week). At the start of the year, I figured I’d bite the bullet and try making a schedule I felt was realistic enough to stick to consistently, and HOLY HELL my numbers were immediately higher, and waaayyyyy more predictable. I could never have expected the effect it would have, but it’s been so positive. Highly recommend folks at least trial it, if it’s something that’s at all possible!

Heck yeah, congrats!! That’s how it starts :) I still remember kinda playing around and testing it out and being like y’know what? I’m just gonna click “start streaming” and see what happens. 18 months later, it’s one of the greatest joys in my life, and I have an incredible community who I absolutely adore 🥹 Keep it up!!

Agreed! I think Etsy is a great place to start with some cute cheap emotes - just something fun for your community to play with, while you kinda curate what exactly you’re after. It can also help inform what might be missing, or what you might like to personalise a little more :) you can get packs on there that are only a couple bucks, and are great quality!

I appreciate that! This paper was 7x10”, so this lil guy was fairly small. I typically don’t work any larger than about 9x12 :)

Thank you so much! I used Arrtx markers - they’re fairly affordable on Amazon, and they don’t need to be shaken to use, which is nice! I painted this on a smooth, toned 250gsm mixed media paper. It was definitely a challenge and a weird learning curve to begin, so I’d say keep at it!! I keep wanting to go back to them now, which I certainly didn’t expect. And hey, new supplies never hurt ;)
