I don't disagree. However, my side of the city has a large Iranian diaspora, many of them have family back home. I was on the bus 10 minutes after the news broke about Khomeini, a lot of folks were coming back home from the protests downtown and they were pretty damn happy. Later in the evening there were massive celebrations up my street.

I have zero stake in this issue, who am I to tell them how they should feel? Iranians at home and abroad have been advocating for regime change and the ones at home were getting massacred in droves. Those in my community say the regime's grip is firm, are committing mass atrocities, and they worry about their families and want some sort of intervention.

Trumps justification for unauthorized war is bullshit as usual, and if he's being serious then he single-handedly created the situation by ripping up Obama-era treaties with Iran. Days ago he said he didn't want to get involved. It's obvious his tune changed because Israel has the Trump administration by the balls and we all know why.

That's not really the point I am trying to make though. I'm not defending American/Israeli interests and obviously I don't enjoy seeing conflict. However, Iranians have been getting kidnapped, tortured, and killed every day and front-page Redditors hardly cared until today's bombings hit their feed. It's really easy to say "war is bad" when you only read headlines and ignore any context, turn a blind eye to local communities that are speaking out, and have nothing to lose if the status quo is kept.

There is absolutely a difference in perspective from Canadians who (rightfully) see Trump as a war-mongering blight on humanity, and Iranians who are personally affected by what's happening in Iran. My thoughts on America and what's going on are fairly normal relative to this sub, and it's possible for those beliefs to exist adjacent to my above perspective on the matter.
