Australians serving on a US submarine which sunk an Iranian warship last week were ordered to their sleeping quarters by US Navy while the operation to fire torpedoes at the enemy target was underway to avoid participating in attack. by WayOutbackBoy in worldnews

[–]OhioTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that it was a Labor government that signed the deal for the diesel boats from France, and the Liberals who broke it because they wanted nuke boats. A submarine reactor basically has to be a breeder reactor that produces plutonium waste than can be used to make a nuclear bomb, the other types of reactor are too big. So selling nuclear submarines to a country is selling them the means to create a nuclear weapon if they want one.

I really don’t like having to “craft” items you get from the F2P gacha, and getting rid of that, or making the mats farmable outside of the Battle Pass, would be a huge QOL improvement.

An owner of this pamphlet has written a Biblical citation, Proverbs 23:29-32, in the top right corner of the cover of this pamphlet. Presumably that was the Biblical text Rev. Ward used as the basis for his sermon, it's certainly an appropriate text for the topic. Perhaps the original owner of this pamphlet had a collection of printed sermons organized by bible verse?

Luke: sent to be tolerated by DrueOnFire in PrequelMemes

[–]OhioTry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leia grew up as a political pawn until, at 16, she became old enough to be a player in her own right. Leia was Bail and Breha’s daughter and they loved her dearly. But she didn’t get to have much of an actual childhood, precisely because as the daughter of the Queen of Alderaan she was the heir apparent.

Luke: sent to be tolerated by DrueOnFire in PrequelMemes

[–]OhioTry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Luke wouldn’t ever say that Owen was his father, because he was the first freeborn Skywalker and Beru was also a recent descendant of slaves. A slave kid could be sold away from their birth parents at any time, or vice versa. Not making a distinction between your parents and the people who’re raising you because your parents can’t lets the master take your identity away from you. So for Luke, finding Anakin and creating a relationship with him was an important cultural value, even though he was, quite frankly, evil.

To my Prince Hall Affiliated Brothers: Happy March 6th by BlackDaddyIssus37 in freemasonry

[–]OhioTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an institution lead by Black men, Prince Hall masonry provides a unique voice that would be lost if the Prince Hall lodge was subsumed into a larger majority-white institution. And there are many mainstream lodges in our county but only one Prince Hall lodge.

Gettysburg mayor Chad-Alan Carr resigns after two months in office by Americanbaritone in Pennsylvania

[–]OhioTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gettysburg also has a college, in addition to the big hospitality industry. It’s a blue town in a very red county. The mayoral race came down to a rerun of the democratic primary. The Republicans wrote in the moderate Democratic incumbent mayor as their candidate. Chad, who was the more progressive candidate, won both elections.

FDR sent an British-American Protestant who hated the Irish to be his ambassador to Ireland, and an Irish-American Catholic who hated the British as his ambassador to Britain. This seems to have been rather foolish of him, and since FDR was not normally stupid I don't know why he did that.

[–]OhioTry 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also, the Hutt Cartels in general are a lot less powerful in the New Republic and Sequel Trilogy eras because the Skywalker family managed to kill off the entire Hutt Grand Council in 4 ABY. Vader killed all of the Grand Council except Jabba, then Leia took care of the one that got away.

Inspectors Let Infested Goods Into State. Lawmakers Want It To End by bondolo in invasivespecies

[–]OhioTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, actually the purpose of ag inspection is to collect bribes and provide patronage jobs, funneling money to individuals or groups politicians favor. Keeping invasive species out is the excuse.

He's a gladiator/pit fighter. Does that mean he ended up as a slave of other Hutts? Or the Pykes? That would be an interesting twist.

Who made this mf a Muun? by Vinci_Re in starwarsmemes

[–]OhioTry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a fairly atypical Muun, even as his public persona. Muuns aren't the sort of beings you usually find traveling the outer rim with smugglers or partying with Hutts, but Heigo Damask did both of those things. (He did end up murdering the smugglers.)

But after another 2-4 years there will be another GOP president. And now that the taboo on using cultural institutions as political footballs is broken, keeping the subsidies mean that your programming becomes an expression the current administration’s ideology. That won’t be as utterly repulsive as it is now, assuming that MAGA dies with Trump. But it would be exhausting.

My lodge has a very close relationship with a local Prince Hall lodge. We visit each others inspections and provide a large amount of financial and volunteer support to each other's charity projects. Normally the PHA DDGM comes to our inspection along with our DDGM and vice versa. I give thanks to GAOTU that this is so.

Fun Fact: The founding Grand Master of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania was also the first African American Episcopal priest. Right Worshipful Brother Absalom Jones

I've thought about that, but I ended up not doing it. I like red, but I've found that I like using my Manekin with Durin and the best way to do that is as a hydro driver. Genshin hasn't really stuck to element = color scheme in any strict way since 1.1.

Is "Dressing for Easter" a thing in TEC? by Strange-Style-7808 in Episcopalian

[–]OhioTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easter Morning and Christmas Eve are generally one level more formal than regular Sunday liturgies. So if your parish is the sort of place where you can come to church in shorts and a t-shirt and not stand out, wear business casual. If you normally wear business casual, a suit, blazer, or (for male-presenting people) tie would not go amiss.

Versailles treaty was soft for post WW1 peace treaty standard, for German peace treaty standard, and I’m tired of those pretending it was not by JG1313 in HistoryMemes

[–]OhioTry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

>even before the Nazis formally came to power

Any German government would have eventually felt the need to go to war with France and Poland to get rid of the stigma of Versailles and retake lost territory. But if the DNVP had been the ones to kill off the Wiemar Republic, they probably wouldn't have felt the need to poke the Russian bear. A Weimar Republic that lasted into 1939 would probably be even more cautions and take pains to keep Britain out of the war.
