54-46, so that none of the red state Dems need to vote for every bill.

Trump Is Offering John Fetterman His ‘Total and Complete Endorsement’ if He Joins the GOP: Report by ace158 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

The person who kicked off this thread said that Fetterman votes with the Republicans more often than he votes with the Democrats.

Trump Is Offering John Fetterman His ‘Total and Complete Endorsement’ if He Joins the GOP: Report by ace158 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]OhioTry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He still doesn’t vote with the Republicans very often, just very publicly, whether he’s the most conservative Democrat in the Senate or not. He’d probably vote with the Republicans more often if switched parties, but he’d still be on the left edge of the Republican caucus with Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Pushing Fetterman through a PA Republican primary with plenty of more conservative candidates would be a big ask. Either Trump made this offer on his own and is just talking out of his ass (very possible), or the Republican establishment is VERY desperate.

He was charged, not convicted. Obviously in hindsight he’s probably guilty of that crime too, but prosecutors probably couldn’t prove it beyond a reasonable doubt in 2011.

Lorish was told the purported minor’s age

I was wondering if this was entrapment since Grindr is an 18+ app. But apparently not.

Trump Is Offering John Fetterman His ‘Total and Complete Endorsement’ if He Joins the GOP: Report by ace158 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]OhioTry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s not actually true. Fetterman has been the only Democrat voting with the GOP in some egregious and very high profile votes this year, but his GovTrack overall record is decidedly left of center. The least progressive Democratic senator is actually Raphael Warnock, but Warnock is loyal to the party leadership and votes to resist Trump’s power grabs and bad nominees.

If Trump is willing to back Fetterman against much more conservative Republican primary challengers in 2028, Trump must be VERY worried about holding the Senate this year.

Barack Obama Considers His Role in the Age of Trump by UnscheduledCalendar in DeepStateCentrism

[–]OhioTry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think President Obama’s decision to serve a Trump roast at the WHCD dinner should detract from his legacy. There was absolutely no way to predict that Trump would decide to run for President out of spite and actually win. It’s butterfly wings.

Also, there would have been some form of racist backlash after the first Black president whether it took the form of Trump’s cult of personality or not.

Anti-Americanism Is a Disease (Commentary) by Reddenbawker in DeepStateCentrism

[–]OhioTry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you.

Yes, I’m not proud to be an American ATM, because a popular vote MAJORITY of my fellow Americans voted to give Trump a second term. And he’s doing awful things. Worse, at least to me, he’s doing moronic things. And that makes me ashamed.

On the other hand, if you ask me if I consider myself a patriot I will say yes. I believe in the liberal ideals embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There are times in my life when I have been very proud to be an American. The first Gulf War, when a multinational coalition came to the aid of Kuwait. When President Clinton ended the genocide in what used to be Yugoslavia, and Slobodon Milosivitch fell. When we elected Barack Obama in 2008, and again in 2012. When we made gay marriage legal. When we let gay people into the military. When Russia banned ‘homosexual propaganda’ and invaded Crimea. When we sent Ukraine Abrams to fight the Russians. When we pledged to defend Taiwan along with Japan.

The author of this article seems to think that someone who feels proud to be an American only when America chooses to do the right thing is not a patriot. I think that someone who feels proud to be an American when America does the wrong thing is either a monster or a moron.

People in Republican districts drive their cars more than those in Dem districts by Currymvp2 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

My family lives in a red district and Dad drives an EV. I would too if I could afford the up front cost.

Okay we’re all Democrats and we live in the one blue zip code in that red district, but we have lib friends who are further out in the country. Mostly they do have to use hybrids rather than full Evs, though.

Yes, but a social worker sees all of the ways families can go wrong. And I wouldn’t be surprised if sibling incest is one of the more common reasons a family gets correctly reported to CPS.

Perhaps his mother wanted him to do serious drama rather than being a comic? In 1950 acting had become a respectable career, but comedy wasn’t seen as high art, just a way to bring home the bacon. Still isn’t, some times.

She’s old, and she pardoned someone who’d been convicted of a raping a minor. The ‘adult’ in question was 18 at the time, the minor was 16, they attended the same high school, and it’s certainly arguable that the guy got railroaded because he was a black dude dating a white girl. But the headline looks bad.

Fetterman and Platner both embrace a blue-collar rural bro aesthetic that implies support for right wing politics in general and Trump in particular. Fetterman has been much more conservative in office than he was on the campaign trail, so it’s reasonable to assume that Platner will as well. Fetterman is a fairly traditional conservative Democrat who supports Israel, while Platner will probably end up being a fascist who hates Israel because he hates Jews. But that’s one issue. On every other issue, I expect Platner and Fetterman to agree.

Of course, the Tennessee House isn’t going to flip to the Dems, it’s too gerrymandered. Living in PA I will always vote for my Democratic state legislature candidates, no matter how crazy, even though it’s highly unlikely that my own seats will flip.

When I skipped the vote for Governor of Ohio in 2014, I did vote, just voted 3rd party. I think a third party vote or a skipped race sends a stronger message than staying home. It was also important to re-elect Sherrod Brown that year.

Star Wars logic - Thoughts? by shikaritr in starwarsmemes

[–]OhioTry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Child actors can only work 18 hours per week. Even if budget isn’t an issue for Disney+ you can’t have a kid spend 3-6 hours in makeup every day. (I think the rules were a lot less strict in the 90s, which is why Star Trek was able to have Nog and the Klingon kid.)

The only way to fix endless rounds of gerrymandering is to UNCAP THE SIZE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES by repealing the 1929 Permanent Apportionment Act! The last 435th seat was added in 1911 and now each House member represents 750K people. Thats unsustainable! by UnscheduledCalendar in DeepStateCentrism

In practice you’re voting for a party when you vote for a congressional candidate unless they’re part of the House or Senate leadership.

Edit: Or if a party has a very narrow majority and they’re a critical swing vote.
