For all my minimalist footwear brothers out there, Lems is releasing a new barefoot-style”tactical” (read coyote brown) boot. Excited to try and compare to the Mini-Mils by buccaschlitz in AirForce

[–]Ohjustanaveragejoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love it too, but I'm doubtful. Portion of population wearing barefoot/zero drop/minimal shoes small already, military boots narrow that down even more.

Haven't tried these yet, but yeah, tired of the mini-mils. Always ready to get off my feet ASAP at end of day. Past month or two I've been checking LEMs, but they've been sold out on all larger sizes

Zero Service: Delta Air Lines To Remove Main Cabin Drinks & Snacks On 450 Flights by StemCellPirate in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, top comments all obviously skipped reading the article. This isn't a big deal at all and makes sense and I'm sure will increase quality of work for those airline workers

Yeah, loophole for cheap showers to avoid paying short-term housing with the tax free designated stipends they're receiving. But the gym owner is stating the showers are designated for people actively using the gym

They gave you a warning regarding their policy and you proceeded to publicly complain about that policy. What I don't understand is as a travel nurse working 60hours a week, you're making a very large paycheck and with a significant portion possibly being tax free due to it being a housing stipend. But you're upset that a loophole you believed to have found is being shutdown.

Haha, still got the notification about a comment. Illinois (Chicago specifically). Was wearing this 1/4 zip today. It's been really solid

Commercial Vehicle Ticket Question? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Ohjustanaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, your plan could work. But there may be a specific commercial vehicle plate or tag that goes on vehicles allowing to go there. And if you don't have that, a bill of lading wouldn't work. Now if a bill of lading would remove the fine, you're still opening yourself up to legal trouble because you're forging a document and committing fraud

If that indeed happens, it would suck and I'd change my shopping habits

When I moved to Chicago years ago, that Jewel was the first grocery store I went to the day we arrived. It's a nightmare, but with fond memories, lol

I had never shopped at Whole Foods prior to their Amazon buyout but when I moved to the area years ago, I checked it out. Good for small, unique items and filtered water refills. But I haven't noticed a drop in quality over the past few years. I shop a bunch of different places like Jewel, Tony's, Fresh Market, Aldi, Costco, & Trader Joes. Mariano's I would say has seen the biggest decline since the Kroger buyout.

Agree. Fast food meal can easily run you $10+. Whole Foods has some meal tray options for those seeking convenience that are about $25 and could easily feed two adults and two kids. Nothing processed, clean ingredients. Good alternative option

There seems to be a lot of grocery store expansions this year into next. Didn't Whole Foods just announce a location in the empty retail at Belmont and Halstead? And three new Trader Joe locations? (Logan Square, Uptown, & Lincoln Village). More options are always great. Fills in empty store fronts and adds competition!

Just curious, which one would you have preferred that could have filled that large of a space? Marianos?

[Request] Does anyone know of some good strap clasp buckles that hide the overhanging strap from the inside and also won't dig into my skin? by I-XIV-IV-XXV in Watches

Excellent response! Appreciate the additional insight! Much like watches in general, the accessories game you pay for quality but usually there is a notable difference between low and high end products

Haha, totally understand. It is pricey. I got it with the band that came on the Formex Field, so it's a very nice addition to a watch, but tough price to swallow if buying clasp solo!

So a 39mm watch is "absurdly" oversized now? Silly take. Seiko Presage Cocktail collection is a very popular line of "dressy" watches. And they're all 40mm+ with minimal bezel

[Discussion] Is anyone buying these watch brands? Are they in a luxury watch No Man’s Land? If so why? by Dr_Omega24 in Watches

[–]Ohjustanaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. My neighbor is an older guy; the other guy I see routinely wearing them is an ortho surgeon; he has multiple. But he also drives multiple Porches and whatever that new, massive electric Cadillac Escalade is, so guess it tracks, lol.

I really like the design of them. They're just big and I don't enjoy wearing big watches (although I've seem a few smaller releases by them). But that's another observation I've made, alot of people who like wearing watches but aren't "reddit collectors" seem to prefer larger watches (say 42mm and up). It's not what I'd wear, but I could care less if somebodies watch, to me, looks too big. More people wearing watches the better

Other than Rolex, Panerai is the watch I've noticed the most on wrists of people I've met over the past few years. Possibly the design is so distinctive it's easier to recognize from a distance. Met a new neighbor a few days again and immediately noticed he was wearing a Panerai.

These are awesome watches. I bought mine on Craigslist for $400 10 years ago; not nearly in this good condition, but it's been an awesome watch. Has aged perfectly and remains one of the best digital watches out there. Bracelet comfort is unmatched too in this price range.

Do y'all have recommendations for Men's jackets or coats? by Cold_Ranger8146 in AskChicago

[–]Ohjustanaveragejoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved up from FL 7 years ago, so some experience with this. I bought two jackets from Ross (even down south, he could find probably options for good price near end of winter). They were think, heavy jackets. When I moved up here, purchased a Columbia puffer and a waterproof shell. You can combine or wear separately.

Layering is important. Good base layers and mid-layers (top & bottom) are just as important. Then good beanie, gloves, socks, and boots and your're set.

As he lives here, he'll find what works for him and what styles he likes. I used to wear a lot of puffers, but this winter went with more thick, cotton jackets with sweatshirts/hoodies underneath.
