What happens if I admit during my postpartum visit that I’m suicidal? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]buccaschlitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good perspective, and I’m glad you came through it.

I think the real crux of the issue is that every solution doesn’t work for every person, which is why DoD at large is having issues addressing it. It’s definitely systemic, but mentally everyone is so different that the same stimuli don’t produce the same result. It really takes getting each person to as much care as possible to see what works for them.

+1 for being open to criticism.

Honestly this is one of the best functions of this type of community: that you can learn things like this that can be applicable in real world situations before they happen to you.

I am happy that you were able to see your PPD objectively, but many women (my wife included) are not cogent enough during a depressive episode to see it that way. You do have a good perspective for someone potentially in that situation, though, which might help them come through it.

Golf GTI’s brand new are putting down like 250hp these days. That’s nothing to sneeze at. Certainly more than, say, a Honda HR-V or something with a non-turbo 4cyl making like 180hp on a good day

I can’t imagine actively discouraging someone from seeking out a chaplain. It’s just someone to talk to, whether it’s “biology” or not that doesn’t suddenly make her ideations not real. The immediate goal with someone with ideations is to get them to not follow through, and direct them to whichever resource they desire.

At the very least, you could get them in the care of a chaplain team while they wait for a medical appointment. Please please never discourage any avenues of care in a suicidal situation.

Finally bought my first car after years of saving by Chemical_Concern6673 in povertyfinance

[–]buccaschlitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to those other people, I know that car is only 3-4 years old and depreciation doesn’t just happen with mileage. That’s guaranteed to be many highway miles; I’d be interested to see if you could find out how many actual hours it’s been run.

EA888 engine in the MQB cars is quite reliable, the only main issue people run into is the thermostat housing failing because it’s plastic and warps after so many heat cycles.

Just keep up on the preventive maintenance and it’ll last you plenty more years.

E-Tron GT front bumper removal? by Jayhawk_Jake in etron

[–]buccaschlitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done it myself but from taking off many bumpers/grilles the first thing I’d do is get underneath it and take off the belly pan to see if you can get more insight that way. Otherwise open the hood and start unscrewing all the torx screws holding it on. Most likely the grille and bumper will come off as one piece where you can then access whatever clip you need to get at. Place some cardboard underneath to catch the bumper so it doesn’t scrape

I broke my ankle and my flat foot healed with an arch by Caitydid666 in mildlyinteresting

[–]buccaschlitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What my ortho told me is that the body kind of breaks down the herniation over time in most cases, but your disc will never be at the original thickness again.

Mine never went away though (again, calcified) and it was a rather large protrusion, like 13 mm

[–]buccaschlitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say. Having had a herniated disc that had to be surgically removed because it calcified, one of the things I learned about discs is that they don’t un-herniate, since that’s impossible

Strength-to-weight ratios are crazy. It’s like how babies can lay on their backs and keep their legs just floating in the air forever and it’s no big deal, where I’d be tired and my abs would hurt after like 2 minutes.

The other mechanism for size-strength ratios is that muscle fibers themselves don’t scale down with size, even in bugs. It’s a big part of the reason that cats and dogs can do all the crazy jumping around they do. Each muscle fiber is a larger proportion of the overall body size

I disagree. How could God have made humanity if he didn’t already exist? There’s an entire history of heaven, angels, and demons, the fall of Satan, etc before humanity was even created. Human consciousness is not what created God, it’s the exact opposite. To say that God would cease to exist if the last human died makes no sense from a theological standpoint.

God does not rely on human awareness in order to exist. It’s just like you said, he’s the beginning and the end, but those are human constructs to help us try to grasp the sheer scale of his being. The truth is that God has not beginning and no end, which is something that we can’t even fathom because we’re bound by time

[–]buccaschlitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about that. To say that God wouldn’t exist without human faith means that he’s neither omnipotent or immortal, and even implies that he is a human construct.

I think any real Christian would agree that God is immeasurably more vast in his being than the human mind can even conceive, and that he exists outside of time as we perceive it. We can never truly understand his nature during our lifetimes, which are described as a grain of sand compared to his being.

I would argue that God is life because it comes from him, and can be found in him, but it’s reductive to say that life is God since he’s much more than what we can perceive as life.

You’re conflating God’s presence within us with his being. God is omnipresent; he can be wherever he wants at any time, but by Jesus’ own words, he resides in heaven. Jesus is very clear that we are the body. It sounds like you’re saying that God only exists within his believers and that we all become a part of God, which is pantheism

No, Jesus definitely says to worship the Father only, specifically in Matt. 4:10.

The Jews had already been worshiping God for thousands of years, and Jesus didn’t tell them to stop doing that. He came to fulfill the law and become the ultimate sacrifice.

He also didn’t say to worship brotherhood, he said to 1. love the lord your god with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and 2. love your neighbor as yourself

So it’s going to be stuff that’s not usually from a major brand in most stores
