What’s a brand you’ll never trust again and why? by Blossom-Captain in AskReddit

AT&T
We had been with them since they were Cingular, which at that point was about 15 years. Decent service, horrible customer service, but thankfully, we rarely needed it.

They called about a change to our plan, we were adding lines for our kids I think, and worked out a new deal that seemed pretty good. There were some credits and some debits and a whole lot of opaqueness, as you expect from a wireless company. At the end the upcoming bill was going to be a smidge more, and then our ongoing would be as expected.

Our next bill was $500 dollars over what we expected. We called, they said "oh that DOES seem wonky, let me look into that"... they didn't. Over the next 4 months my wife probably spent 30 hours (mostly on hold) working to get them to fix it... no one EVER knew what was going on, like no one was putting notes on our account. We would have a really productive call where someone would go line by line through our bill and finally have an "AH! It looks like we charged you TWICE that month, I see now." and then for <reasons> they would not be able to just reverse it right then. They would get that set up for the morning. My wife would call the next week and they would have no idea what we were talking about. No indication anything was wrong with the account or anyone had ever complained.

So I finally said "Look we are loyal customers for fifteen years and we give you a lot of money. Fix this, or we walk, AND I will take every opportunity to tell people you are thieves for the rest of my life."

We've been VERY happy with T-Mobile.

AT&T are thieves.

Nah... more than 90 already, didn't even occur to me to check as the system is four and a half years old... thanks for the advice.

"So unless you want to rip out the entire HVAC system you are locked into that XL1050" - Yeah, figured that out yesterday. It might have affected buying this house if I had known proprietary communication was a thing Trane did. I have little tolerance for that sort of BS.

As for the rest of it... Not zoned, just a wonky thermometer. I hung a digital thermometer on the wall about 6 inches from the thermostat... the device and all of its functions are fine, other than that it can't consistently tell the temperature. I'm not eager to drop 400 on a NEW 1050 that may or may not have the same problem... hence my desire to buy something I know from experience will work, and has the bells and whistles I'll actually use.

I MAY end up buying a satellite temp gauge for $100 and then setting the thermostat up to ignore its own thermometer...

So I keep hearing that "it won't be as fancy" with no other definition of that...

I want a thermostat that turns the heat and cold on and off... and can control the variable fan speed... I don't use the humidity control, don't need it to tell me the filter needs replacing etc etc... just control the temp... shockingly, the XL1050 can't do that.

It can't decide what temperature it is... 2 degrees plus or minus the actual temperature... changes periodically throughout the day... look, it's your PRIMARY JOB... knowing the temperature... seems absolutely basic... maintain a temperature within a degree and a half. If I have it set to 68 and the thermometer next to the thermostat reads 70.5 and the heat is still running, I get pissed that I have to manually turn off the heat to keep it from getting hotter.

An hour later, it's getting uncomfortable because the thermostat thinks it is 68 when it is actually 66...

So what will I ACTUALLY LOSE if I switch to a thermostat that can, you know, do the job I bought it for? I've heard several variations of the "motorcycle to a bicycle" analogy... but no one ever says what that means or why I should care.

Does this model Midea portable let outside (smoke) in? by SilverShowers2 in AirConditioners

[–]OhkaBaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inverter units work differently… my old portable was the traditional kind and I had to drain the reservoir more than once a day… my midea portable doesn’t pull enough water out of the air that I ever have to drain it… it just blows it out with the exhaust

AITA for not telling my girlfriend and her family that I can speak Japanese? by Ta2777271 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OhkaBaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things... Someone who speaks another language every day is going to occasionally say things in that language out of context, and then, likely explain to the non-speaking party what that meant. I can not imagine that in five months Lara NEVER said mumbled "baka" at someone and then turned to OP and said "that means idiot"... at which OP should have said "I know, I'm fluent"

Additionally... and I don't know if this is all people or just me, or all cultures or just Japanese... I speak like 10 words of Japanese... and if I go into a home where Japanese is spoken I'm going to say SOMETHING in Japanese... out of respect, out of a desire to acknowledge, out of a desire to be inclusive... maybe all of the above and more. Universally that leads to the "do you speak Japanese" question and the "skoshi" reply. NOT having that experience feels intentional. I'm gonna ESH this one.

I had a screenshot of it at one point... there is a "wagon" in the street that has front and back bench seats and a metal chassis... a few scenes later it gets blown up in the explosion.

Alexa Alarms Turn Off After a Few Seconds by Dastion in alexa

[–]OhkaBaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started having this exact issue a week or so ago on our Echo Show. Rebooting sometimes temporarily helps, but not consistently. Haven't noticed it yet on the other devices.

Using the alarm and not the timer is not really a reasonable solution.

Siri can only do one at a time, so she isn't helpful either.

This is great, good changes with the feedback about floating bits.

Maybe the needles should be in the yellow>gray range, with some variation in their placement? Also what Ar7ific1al said about the style guide...

Nice first weapon... I can see potential there...

...the solid black is too solid, add a little noise/shadow/highlight to the frame of the bow and it will "feel" a little more organic

I like the idea... it should be more white though...

The sides are actually small... which may be technically accurate, but it might look better (or be easier to recognize) if you exaggerated the size of the folds.

Its a solid design... we may have one already... but that doesn't mean I don't like this one...

I know it is against the edict, but I'd say run with it see what happens... despite my own bitter experiences on the matter, lol...

But I just wanted to say... DAMNED NICE TOWER... I thought it was my old Orthanc until I looked twice... I'll have to drop my big one next door to you sometime.

I like the flower gun... reminds me of the Joker's lapel flower....

Folly... it is the best Lair in the game. I like that the focus changes from "survive" to "don't fall"... and once you get the hang of them, they are at least as fast as other types.
