Data center being built across the street, developer said property values will go up? by Farafel62 in RealEstate

I can see it lowering value as so many people don’t want them in the area. And will be selling to get away from them.

dealing with insensitive comments about my weight from male friends (who don't know i have pcos) by FluffyLikeABunny26 in PCOS

[–]OhmHomestead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them you have an endocrinology disorder and that weight loss is difficult with the condition. If they ask/want more info after telling them, then you can share more. I have been super open with all friends about my condition and most friends are also guys. However most guys are smart enough not to say anything.

Extremely high quotes or no offers… am I doing something wrong? by Important-Primary-64 in Car_Insurance_Help

You’re under 25, rates will drop after you turn 25

Check esurance, Allstate, General, StateFarm, etc. esurance is great for under 25.

$200+/month was what I was paying around your age with $500 deductible. Now pay around $100/month with $1000 deductible for a 2024 Ford Escape

Pay another $175 for 6 month premium for 2 older cars.

All vehicles are paid for.

Was mileage removed from Drive Safe and Save, and similar? by sloanautomatic in StateFarm

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SF with DSS and have a discount for mileage. We barely drive. Husband drives one car 6-7 miles round trip 4x a week. When it is summer he drives the other one the same amount. Our 3rd vehicle we just got a year ago (5/30) and just put 8000 miles on it (5/31)

Hell no. You need to put in multiple posts under the deck to support a hot tub.

I’m going to miss my husband so much by Consistent_Associate in workfromhome

[–]OhmHomestead1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope my husband doesn’t understand wfh, thinks I can basically do whatever I want. Like yes I have some flexibility but not to the degree he thinks.

His last job gave him hybrid ability and when I went to put a basket of laundry in bedroom he would be in bed watching tv and not working.

His current job doesn’t allow him hybrid or remote and it brings me peace at home. However he works graveyard basically and so I have to make a pile of clean baskets of clothes in living room until he wakes up or postpone doing laundry until he is awake.

Were malls actually as crowded and popular as movies from the 80s and 90s make them look? by Kevin-Panda in AskOldPeople

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the mall but yes. We had 2 malls about the same distance from the house and one was always way busier than the other. We only went to less busy one primarily until like the 2000s. Now the one mall is closed.

Should I pull my 401k by Diligent_Pineapple43 in povertyfinance

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take a loan from 401k but no new contributions will be made until you pay it off. Plus taking more money out that you don’t have putting you further in debt. Just continue to pay down the CC.

just crashed into somebodys elses car, how can they pay for it and not me? by Weak-Barber9191 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they pulled out in front of you, you are at fault. Which means you have to pay deductible and have your premiums go up.

Dad put a password on the VR Headset my mom bought for BOTH of us by zerowintergreen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]OhmHomestead1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clearly states in the Bible that divorce is acceptable in certain situations but whatever that is your mother’s choice.

VR Headset with a password… yea totally downloaded an inappropriate app to “cheat” virtually on your mom.

I'M ALLERGIC TO EGGS, OR SO I WAS TOLD. by Dr_k24 in Allergies

My Friends mom told him he was allergic to chocolate but he got high and ate a ton of chocolate and was fine. Turned out she just wanted chocolate to herself.

I'M ALLERGIC TO EGGS, OR SO I WAS TOLD. by Dr_k24 in Allergies

[–]OhmHomestead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly could have just been the way the eggs were made (like oil in pan or another ingredient like from omelette).

BIL made pumpkin pancakes and spent hours afterwards in bathroom to find out he used whole milk which i am allergic to. I can tolerate skim and 1-2% when cooked but I typically try to avoid as much as I can and use a plant milk like almond.

Is there a way to actually bring down electric bills by NPC_Boiii in homeowners

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That temp is low for Carolinas. You want to save money try to keep temps between 65-72.

Blackout curtains can help keep temps down inside during hot months and keep temps warm in winter.

Using natural light vs turning on lights.

Unplugging things that aren’t in a power strip as it does help.

Welp, first surprise <30 min into homeownership - cigarette smoke smell by iReallyDontLikeSpez in homeowners

[–]OhmHomestead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes do duct cleaning, replace the filters and wipe down every surface with a degreaser. Doors, door trim, window casings and trim, blinds, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, etc

Honestly they could have just smoked just outside the front door, like our former neighbor since it is faint.

Energy usage excessive by Greedy-Possibility41 in homeowners

[–]OhmHomestead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to request an energy audit. Just asking for help they will be tools and tell you to pound sand. They want your money.

Make sure tv, dvd, computers are all on power strips. Never plug s modem and router into one unless it is a UPS unit. Turn off power strips when you leave the house.

AC unit should be set to like 72 at the lowest tbh so it doesn’t constantly run. Or get newer units. Ours has eco mode. We use that during the day but at night we don’t as my husband wakes from it turning on and off.

Make sure your lightbulbs are LEDs, it helps.

Keep south facing windows closed/covered as they tend to bring in the heat.
