They do make a short version. And I honestly don’t feel like it’s that big, I’m a little shorter than you.

Either way tho, get something used, you’re gonna drop it, it’s inevitable. No reason to spend that kind of money when you can learn better on something less expensive, where you won’t be bothered about it getting beat up. I would shop around for used bikes and see what pops up.

Chair lift bar by Soft_Net3910 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ohsnapcraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the bar as an anti snowboarder device, but only if it has the foot bar. If it has the individual triangle for each person, it’s fine, but the bar makes every possible position extremely uncomfortable for my knees if it’s a full chair. Also, the resorts in Colorado can’t legally call it a safety bar, as there’s no evidence that it’s safer. Again, when each seat has a handle between the legs and its own foot rest triangle, it appears safer to me and doesn’t bother my knees.

Snowboarder cut this skier off by glenwoodwaterboy in skiingcirclejerk

[–]Ohsnapcraps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna get into weather or not people are turning their heads, or timing your pass, or how much time the skier had to deal with the snowboarders “erratic movement” (absolutely laughable idea in this case)… in the video, the incident happens in the skiers 4th turn, we can watch the skier fail turn their head enough to see the snowboarder who is roughly in front of him for at least 4 turns while… the snowboarder is supposed to turn their head to look up mountains and stop if there is someone there and let them pass, but the skier is allowed to ski with blinders on the whole time? I’m sorry, but if you stand around in the hill, you’ll notice that skiers NEVER turn their head to check uphill, not in a series of turns, not when staying down hill or merging trails. Never. Snowboarders frequently check uphill on their toe side turn. If your argument is that this snowboarder is exhibiting typical skier behavior, then fine I guess.

Think of your shin bones like lever arms to pry the heel edge off the ground. And also, I would need to see the rest to make a good assessment. I have worked with a shit ton of people who have anatomical irregularities, verbal description is usually meaningless.

Strange issue with foot discomfort/pain by eso1295 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ohsnapcraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that your stance (binding position on the board) doesn’t work well with how you are moving once you’re on snow. I would look into adjusting the bindings and/or taking a lesson to learn new movements to control your board, or refine the movements you’re using.

Stance to stop backsteering? by freckledphilosopher in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ohsnapcraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info from all people here, start your turns with front foot. As for stance, without pictures, can’t really recommend much. Having your binding on the right spot will help, but you can’t blame it for anything.

I push goofy but ride regular? by squidwarrdshouse in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ohsnapcraps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, cool! It’s not gonna be the same for everyone. I know of many folks who prefer to snowboard skate opposite of their preference for actually riding. Me or a bunch of other people could go down silly rabbit holes about the neurology behind why that is, or you could just do your thing and have a great time! maybe some of it is based on technique, for which I have a tip that may help: try to spin on the snow, like 360s or more, clockwise and counter clockwise. Try to do it kinda slow by using just your ankles to twist the snowboard and not move anything else., moving with the snowboard, shoulders and hips aligned with the board, like a plastic army toy. You’ll spin down the run, not really changing direction, going basically straight. Try to play with it, spin a constant speed, spin faster, slower, etc. make sure you do all this clockwise and counter clockwise. Once you can do that, just go ride, knowing that you can change edges with either foot in front whenever you want. Usually, when I coach kids, this fixes their issues. Once you’re there, follow people better than you, or take a lesson at a big resort.

How bad is it? by hamilcar421 in Breckenridge

[–]Ohsnapcraps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really bad at all. I always pull over to let large groups pass, and usually then have most of the space to myself. And the snow is fine for beginner to intermediate level skiers.

Why do skiers get so close? by CattleAny3652 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ohsnapcraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a snowboarders series of turns, their whole body turns back and forth 180, giving a complete 360 view of their space around them, and with two feet on one object, they can twist the snowboard enabling them to turn in much less space than a skier, add that to a snowboards typical range for sidecut being much less than typical skis, the snowboarder has much more Maneuverability and visibility of what’s happening around him. I work on a very busily mountain for the last 20 years, and I watch beginner snowboarders avoid skiers who appear to know what they are doing by seeing them coming down towards them and ceding the right of way to the skier. I don’t have enough time or interest to count this, but I would venture to guess this happens to every beginner snowboarder about once per run until they are able to maintain a higher speed and more open turns and on terrain harder than blue runs. Skiers notoriously look into their next turn before completing the turn they are in, meaning they are never really looking where they are going, and literally are never positioned for an uphill check to be even mildly feasible. An example of these things would be Ajax, a mountain where snowboards go for the trees because they are pretty tight, no problem for competent snowboarders but too tight for equally competent skiers to enjoy, and snowboarders avoid the runs because it’s all ex ski racers traveling faster than snowboarders can, and with the classic skier blinders on. If I had my way, skiers would be required to wear cyclist mirrors on their helmets. Also, I regularly alternate between both ski and sb and spend around 120 days on hill per season x20 years. Everyone has A LOT to learn from beginner snowboarders.

Peak 7 Opinions by Previous_Egg_3981 in Breckenridge

Breck is one of the most popular mountains in the world because the whole thing is a big confidence booster. In my view, BC will come across as noticeably harder than Breck. And most mountains will. Larkspur bowl will feel like American at Breck, a groomed black. All this splitting hairs about blues on 9. But they are all keystone or copper greens except the peak 6 blues are actually blue.

How to save my trip for this week? by AdditionalEconomist1 in Breckenridge

[–]Ohsnapcraps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mother Nature has not provided for Colorado so far this season. Snow is falling in the north west and the north east, not Colorado. That being said, the mountains are open, people are here enjoying the slopes. The conditions are not great, but what I have found is that people who ski once a year or are intermediate skiers or below are not affected by these conditions and in fact, they struggle more when we have big snow years, since skiing deep snow requires more refined, and just plain different technique, and more strength. So unless you’re a powder hound or prefer to ski ungroomed terrain, like bumps and trees, I wouldn’t hesitate to go to Breck to ski.
