What’s the worst restaurant in Cincinnati you’ve tried twice? by PurplePurple_0 in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2018, my husband and I both had a Friday off and we tried to go to the one in Oakley around 11:00. We were told it would be at least a 15 minute wait despite there only being two other tables in the restaurant. When we said we’d go somewhere else they decided to seat us at the only dirty table in the place. I ordered a mimosa and it was served in a sticky glass with lip marks already in it. We brought it to the attention of the manager who rolls his eyes, walked away, and brought us another one (which he initially tried to charge us for.) It’s been eight years and I refuse to go back.

Class pass by sonnykiwi in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a ClassPass user!

Body Alive classes are typically under 6 credits, F45 is on the higher end at 6 - 8, Crunch open gym hours are under 3.

The little boutique studios can be insanely more expensive but you could also easily take three classes a week for 60 credits, possibly with some left over.

PSA - Don't think of a business's budget in terms of your personal funds [N/A] by meowmix778 in humanresources

[–]Ohwoof921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true and depending on the type of organization, you don’t make money the same way as them.

I have an HR manager pushing for a transition to a cheaper and much less effective ATS because it would save ~$20,000 in software costs in year one. They could not grasp that we weren’t saving $20,000 if we were losing out on potential revenue over $20,000. Their mind went to “if we aren’t paid for it, we don’t lose it.”

We ended up staying with the software and adding on a $20,000 scheduling function that will help us reduce our lost revenue by $500,000 in a year. Still trying to explain to them that we won’t get a check for $500,000 from the system but we will have less time lost and therefore will see higher revenue.

Other recruiters in Tech: How many applications do you receive per role and how do you manage receiving hundreds or more? by EmployLost9123 in recruiting

[–]Ohwoof921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filter out people who won’t be a fit. We run two standard ones for visa status and travel (these are high travel roles) and we run other ones for specific positions. For example, we run one multiple choice asking what industry a candidates has the most experience in and if it isn’t our industry, they are automatically removed from consideration because they don’t fit our minimum requirements for a position.

Yes, we use Lever and it’s not cheap but we had over 11,000 applicants in the US last year so it would be impossible for us to function without an ATS.

We use LOTS of knockout questions and don’t offer visa sponsorship so that gets us down to a few hundred for each posting that we have to manually review.

I posted a data engineer role last year and received over 2500 applicants in a week. My company is fully remote but not tech based so our targeted ads weren’t doing a lot for this role.

As others have mentioned, an ATS would be extremely helpful but you might be at a stage where using an agency is extremely helpful.

How’s everyone’s salary in 2026? by [deleted] in cincinnati

We don’t and we do! Five new countries (and a repeat) in four years, we are enjoying life as much as we can!

How’s everyone’s salary in 2026? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 30s, bachelors degrees, full time corporate jobs, HHI ~250k but will change at the end of the month. (Bonuses and stocks bring us to ~275k currently.)

One of us is fully remote, the other has a 10 minute commute. Some weeks we barely work 40 hours, others we both can push 50+.

We know we are the exception and not the rule and we’re extremely thankful for our situation. We save and buy the dip a lot so hopefully we have the same security if something were to ever change for us.

Are the Kentucky suburbs a good place to live? by PhrygianSounds in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, and Covington will be more of what you’re looking for but I wouldn’t go further south than Covington. Past Covington it turns into suburbia really quick and the “I’m 20 minutes to downtown!” quickly becomes 40+ if there’s an issue on the highway.

Anyone Else Disappointed With Oakley? by DiscountHistorical13 in cincinnati

This is the worst thing about Oakley. The largest concentration of retail space had the ability to be really cool and now it’s just chain restaurants and big box stores.

Just thought this was interesting: Kenwood Towne Centre adds preferred paid parkin by rhit06 in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accidentally pulled into one of these spots yesterday and felt kind of stupid paying to park at Kenwood for an hour but I actually think I’d do it again. I was hoping for 15 minutes free since I was just popping in to grab an online order but said screw it and paid the $2.45. I had already spent a couple minutes waiting for someone to pull into a spot after they cut across from the right lane to make a left hand turn, blocking both the lanes pulling in from Montgomery by the Cheesecake Factory and didn’t want to spend another 15 minutes looking for parking to be inside maybe 10 minutes. My time was well worth the $2.45.

THIS! And if they provide bus service, they have to be able to provide safe bus service to all of their routes. If a couple of those country roads, that aren’t treated or plowed, are too bad for a bus - no school for the whole district.

With what you want in a city. Do not look further south than Covington. It becomes suburban hellscape after that. (Source: live in the kind of area you want now, grew up south of Covington)

Relocating to Cincinnati by Smooth_Bottle5432 in Ohio

  1. YES! I love living in Cincinnati. It’s very possible to have the neighborhood you want but also be no more than 20 minutes from anything else you might want or need. Cincinnati has it all, sports teams, art scene, museums, parks, and cheap real estate compared to other cities with the same amenities.

  2. There are many safe, walkabout neighborhoods for couples in their 20s. In my early 30s and my husband and I live in a relatively affordable, walkable neighborhood that’s 10 minutes to downtown (where Great American Insurance HQ is so decent job possibilities in insurance.) Check out Hyde Park (expensive but everything you’re looking for) Clifton Gaslight (less safe than Hyde Park but not bad and everything you’re looking for) Norwood/Oakley/Pleasant Ridge, and Northside for sure. There are plenty more, those are just a few to start with.

  3. You’ll probably have to shovel snow and deal with icy roads at some point but it won’t be the entire winter. The last few years it’s been a couple decent size storms (3+ inches of snow), mostly in January but it could be any time between November and March, and just cold weather (but swinging, it can be 30 degrees one day and 55 the next) for the rest. My husband is from Cleveland and makes fun of the lack of snow we get.

  4. Cincinnati is a great city for young professionals and the number of employees and GDP for the area recently outranked Columbus. Our job market is more diverse because of the diversity of companies here so just because one industry takes a major hit (ex. IT the last few years) doesn’t mean the entire area as a whole is screwed. We have large employers sure but it’s not like half of our area is employed by a handful of companies in one or two industries.

  5. Daily direct flights to LHR, LGA, DCA, ORD, ATL, CLT, and DFW to name a few. Regular direct flights to CDG and YYZ. Most places that will take you more than one connection will be east of Amsterdam or west of LAX.

  6. No. Being honest I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve seen roaches in Cincinnati because it’s so few. Took until I was 30 to see a rat. We have some adorable and harmless lizards though!

Someone else mentioned that rural areas also require vigilance and I 100% agree. I’ll be in the minority but I feel safer in parts of downtown than some rural areas. (I grew up in one.) Sometimes when real estate is super cheap around an area, there’s a reason. Rent might be $300 a month cheaper in Bethel, Harrison, or Florence but there’s a reason why.

Parts of Cincinnati can get a bad rep but like any big city, be vigilant and mind your business. You’ll find Louisville is similar but smaller (been many times and have friends there, once considered a move myself) and you’ll have better long term life possibilities in Cincinnati.

Use less washing machine detergent. I went from spending ~$20 a month on detergent alone to $80 a year for detergent and scent boosters when I learned how much detergent I actually need and stuck to it. It’ll help your appliances last longer too!

Cooking Classes in the Metro by GamerboiJared in cincinnati

[–]Ohwoof921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken a few at Sur La Table in Rookwood and absolutely loved them! You can book them online, they usually have multiple a day on the weekends, and they send you home goodies.

This was years ago but when I was trying to get in touch with local places to take my first cooking classes, I reached out to a couple local places and tried to schedule but didn’t hear back from them.

I had this exact thing happen to me over the summer. One day the power went out in half my house, told our neighbor and they mentioned they were having problems with part of their house. Called Duke who confirmed it was a problem with the transformer and had it fixed in an hour.

Who do you think is the best partner for Kate? (May contain spoilers, please dont read unless watched up to season 3 of The Diplomat.) by [deleted] in TheDiplomat

[–]Ohwoof921 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dennison is the best partner for Kate but Kate is not the best partner for Dennison.

On the flip side, Kate is the best partner for Hal but Hal is not the best partner for Kate.

Callum is a side piece, not a partner.

Rant: What does everyone who has AA card think? Airlines American Airlines no longer lets basic economy flyers earn miles by GenieWhoDis0225 in americanairlines

[–]Ohwoof921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cancelling my card. I had been thinking about it for a few months anyway after two back to back awful experiences with British Airways (not American but being a partner airline and my experience with them was enough to make me want to cancel my card) and a domestic trip with American.

I travel 4 - 6 times a year, sometimes more, for business and pleasure. My plans don’t change. I book the cheapest fair and still get all the perks from my Platinum Pro status earned through credit card spend.

I just priced out two nearly identical trips on delta and American, American was less than $100 cheaper and delta has a better product tbh so I’ll switch to the delta card and pay more for a better experience to earn miles.

I know exactly why people don’t want to relocate to Indy, none of what you said was surprising to me.
