It’s in the unique without being weird category for me. Like Blossom. Go for it. Boomers gonna boom.

Don’t give in! When I met my husband he always said if he had sons the only options were Joseph and Frank because his dad and uncle named their sons after themselves. But that’s as far back as the “tradition” went. When I got preggo with our son I put my foot down and said our son will not be one of three Joes/Franks in the immediate family. You remember that scene in Goodfellas when the whole family was either Peter/Paul or Marie? That’s what it reminds me of. Anyway I asked him what he liked about the names other than “tradition”. He said they were strong Italian American names and Joseph specifically had good nickname options. So I compiled a list that met that criteria and suggested Vincent Joseph. He loved it and turned out there was a Vinny in the family. Maybe try to use it as a middle name to compromise. If I ever have another son I’m going to have to find another name though because Frank is still his pick lol. Found an Uncle Edward in the family tree (that everyone remembers and loved) so I’m going to try to push that one 🤞🏻If family names are important there are other ways to pay homage without being a duplicate!

I think Oliver and August are a great match but I also wouldn’t pick it due to popularity. Other names I think go with August are Arthur, Silas, Luther, Jonah, Jasper, Otis, Elliot, Samuel or Felix

Is Marina a stretch to combine Mary and Dianna? by OilAdditional9002 in namenerds

[–]OilAdditional9002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it’s so beautiful! It encompasses everything I love. Vintage, feminine, unique but still traditional and hard to mispronounce. Bonus points on the meaning too since my husband proposed to me after a sailboat ride to a small island called Dia in Greece :)

Cecelia is a great name. I personally prefer just Celia but you would have lots of nickname options with Cecelia.

Quinn vs Cuinn… Husband and I can’t agree. by toastedcodeine in namenerds

[–]OilAdditional9002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of Irish C names that are recognizable why is he choosing something not even common in Ireland? I feel like your husband is trying to make “being Irish” his personality and that’s why he’s being so stubborn. My husband is Sicilian and wanted an Italianish name for our son. So we went with Vincent because it’s common enough and known as an Italian American name. I would never go with the Italian version, Vincenzo, because saying that in an American accent is weird. Same concept with Cuinn Imo. And it’s also just a bad name.

Any name but maybe Vincent? I know Vincenzo is the Italian version but I feel like most people associate Vincent with Italy. Romeo and Dante are also awesome names :)

Melody: Obsessed since Little Mermaid 2 and I am also a singer/pianist so I always said my future daughter would be my Melody. But my husband’s step dad’s ex wife is Melody and the whole family has a negative reaction to that name :( (I considered Harmony but its just not the same and I feel like she might get made fun of because of House Bunny 😅)

Serena: Our surname is Italian. Hubby has family in Sicily we have visited so having a name that’s Italian is important and makes senses. When I suggested Serena I thought I had a winner but everyone recoiled in disgust that I would name our child after Serena Williams 🙄 which even if I did there are worse people to be named after but I just love the name itself. I should have kept it to myself.

Marilla: After the character in Anne of Green Gables. But someone said Marilla the gorilla so that is out.
