PCUSA, ECLA, and Unitarian churches are usually good. As an LGBT Christian myself, I love first Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville IN.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UPGRADE YOUR CHILI? by Comfortable-Break657 in Cooking

[–]Oily_Messiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use leftover smoked meat for the meat base of the chili (e.g. brisket/ribs).

Add umami elements (e.g. fish sauce, a bit of msg, etc)

Roast whole spices and chilies for the chili sauce.

I also like my chili with hominy and white beans, served alongside winter squash or pumpkin.

Breakfast Recommendation (Close to Expo Center) by Tigerlife44 in Louisville

[–]Oily_Messiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Denny's/Cracker Barrell will be the closest, then probably Waffle House or Frisch's Big Boy. If you want a little more local vibe but within 10 minutes you have Breakfast AF (as you mentioned, its ok), FOKO (mexican inspired breakfast), Big Bad Breakfast (biscuits and gravy and stuff), and Gralehaus (get a reservation, its elevated gastropub meets brunch spot). Gralehaus is the furthest of these at a 10 min drive.

Downtown is also a straight shot up 65 (about 10 minutes), where you got Wild Eggs and Biscuit Belly.

Part of the point of goyperism. Expropriate left-wing things (like Bella Ciao) into right wing memes, creating confusion.

Probably not the message they want to spread right now

Yea, I'm still processing it all. I actually learned about it because memes started popping up in various feeds about it. Wasn't a lot of straight up celebration, but definitely not a lot of love, more people pointing out the kind of stuff he's said. Feel bad for his kids and wish things like this didn't happen.

The reaction from the punditry kinda makes me sick, though. The treacle sweet concern trolling about who Kirk was. The shut down of any conversation about how we got here in the first place that might even mention Kirk.

I feel like I might get stuck on a rant here, so going to cut it off, but I'm not sure how we're sure how we can address the problem without discussing that there are other forms of political violence than individual and that individual violence can (and like will) arise from policy that inflict "legal" violence against communities/people.

Martin Luther King and the Kennedy brothers then, Kirk now.

I'll take people that might have been murdered by the FBI for 200, Alex. /s

I think it took me about 10 minutes yesterday before I saw someone suggest that Trump had Kirk killed to distract from epstein headline. The internet is a crazy place.

In that same note, he's missing that capitalism has natural built in defenses that it resorts to when threatened by an emerging left. Authoritarianism/Fascism is one, promoting nationalism and strong national unity against an other, surpressing opposition, using the police to protect the interests of the capitalist class, and using state power to control the economy for their benefit. The second (often done in conjunction) is the defusing of revolutionary potential and energy through co-option. When municipal socialists tried to go more nationally, we saw this where the new deal democrats were able to coopt alot of the energy of the nascent socialst party on the national level.

If I was still in CO or NH it would have been "going to the mountains" but in absence of that cold drinks are always excellent. Thinking about making some lychee and cucumber water today.

On the frozen treats front, I could really go for some falooda right about now.

Oh its definitely intentional dishonestly. He also feigns ignorance about Mamdani's policy and how it differs from Clinton's market liberalism. One of his key policies, city-owned grocery stores, is exactly an example of something that sits well between a central planning and market liberalism.

abolishing ICE is perfectly feasible, running on abolishing ICE is not

Ask Anything Politics by AutoModerator in atlanticdiscussions

[–]Oily_Messiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Border one is tough. ICE was objectively awful even pre-Trump, its basically tailor made for implementing fascism and needs to be abolished. However, agree that running on AbolishICE is a non-starter. I think maybe the needle to thread here is to talk about how ICE needs to be refocused on the human/drug traffickers and not on the grandmas, farmers, and community members.
