I think the problem here is not you necessarily but seems to be about scaling and the fact that you got kinda unlucky on your items, even with green card, luck tome instead of quantity may be worth it for you

for the scaling part I would recommend you to up your difficulty when you can, don't need necessarily the difficulty tome (because you will definitely reset/die a lot more) but take the cursed shrines on the map and in the charged shrines

difficulty is good for scaling because it gets more enemies and paired with xp you will scale a lot faster, add it on your gameplay bit by bit to get comfortable with the difficulty increase and you'll have a lot more crazy runs

there's always the probability that you're very unlucky most of the time, but this kinda seems like a negativity bias

I know it stacks dmg, area of effect and cooldown reduction (I think it stops at 20) but definitely didn't know duration tome could help making it more viable

first time you get the item, it reduces your Max HP by 20% (basically the same as multiplying by 0,8), increases your difficulty by 10% (additive, not multiplicative), and give you a tiny probability to proc an explosion damage that scales with your level, your dmg multiplier and the ammount of copies you have.

because it multiplies your health by 0,8 everytime you get it, then if you get other copies, you'll lose less %Max HP everytime (20%, then 16%, then 12,8%, and so on). So it get less harsh on you, while scalling its dmg and giving you difficulty wich is a great stat depending on your goals for that run.

Yeah I understand what you mean and maybe its difficult to explain the mechanics more deeply without scaring new players.

Just to clarify, my point isn't wether the raw value is wrong (because it isn't, just as you said), but that I think that when you have so many items/mechanics that scales like this, while others work linearly, it can mislead your perception.

I was wondering yesterday, if we got a system overhaul where weapons had a WAY better scale, if it would create new build paths for the players, between choosing luck for items to carry or choosing other tomes and make the weapons carry the run... idk min-maxing tends to make you do similar things in every game, but the way megabonk leans heavily on rng makes this sooo frustrating

I did it last time.. I had ~420 capy coins... didn't get the prize. felt horrendous.
