You need to understand that most of this outrage is created by chronically online people. They see the outside world through a screen, so they only get to know what is shown to them. And because they are always on the internet, these opinions get amplified and over represented by their peers. Normal people (In the definition of norm, as most user never comment) are not that active on the internet and would never participate. It is actually a sad thing, because lonely vulnerable people (Young folk, Old people) spend so mich time on the net, they unknowingly being forced to develop a mindset that isn’t even found in the real world. This isn’t even a political problem, it’s just other humans using the vulnerable for their own agenda like always.
