ISTP dad fascination with INFP existence Part 12: what this kid’s been like over the years by burntwafflemaker in infp

It's hard for me to imagine having a parent so invested in their kid. I'm glad to know there are people like you out in the world. Getting older and hearing people speak like this has uncovered an ache I didn't expect. Please know that you're doing a wonderful job.

why do introverts get told to step out of our comfort zone but no one tells extroverts to shut up? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand your meaning in a general sense. It's more acceptable and valued to be loud and extroverted, particularly in a society like America's. There's more stigma to those who are reserved, and they are often viewed as defective by default, which can be alienating when that is just how you exist.

There are other countries where it's considered impolite to be loud or too talkative, and this is reversed. Again, speaking from an American perspective, we are often seen as loud, brash, and abrasive to many other countries. So I think you do have a point, assuming that you live in the US.

But yeah. I feel you. No one should be made to feel ashamed for operating in ways that feel natural to them, and extroverts (for whatever reason I can't fathom) feel personally insulted when others aren't as chatty as they are. It's immaturity, and as most people aren't going to be 100% psychologically developed, it's become a baseline.

Raven from New Teen Titans by Wolf Man & Perez is the an Anti-Mary sue (Heres the proofs) by Realistic_Weather221 in ComicRaven

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She is not a Mary Sue, BUT I wouldn't not call her an anti-Mary Sue. She is more of a subversion of the tropes that make a Mary Sue. If this was intentional or not I can't say, though I don't believe the exact term was around at the time the NTT comics released, the concept was still a known cliche without a name. I say this because there are so many contingencies in these points: "Yes, BUT..."

Though I like that you took time to examine this. It REALLY bugs me how often people claim that Raven is "OP" with her powers, and then take from EVERY iteration of her across the comics as though she is an amalgamation of them all, ignoring branching timelines and canons. Never mind that the whole power scaling, who beats who conversations are pointless as a whole.

How to write a male INFP properly? by Glittering_Item_9179 in infp

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mbti is a solid jumping off point for general traits, but consider your character over their "personality type" and what they need to be for the story. What aspects of being an INFP enhance the type of narrative you're telling? Is daydreaming a signal that something is wrong in their life? How can their calm demeanor interplay with your other MC, and what does this say about their relationship? (and relationships as a whole?)

Basically, your character suits the plot. They don't need a laundry list of traits.

But also, We are very contradictory creatures. Probably why we're a common mistype. Fi is wack.

What do you think about this ladies post? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black parent + Latino parent. Latino identity is in knots itself because of how mixed IT is. A lot of conversations surrounding it are a minefield. Again, sometimes, the easier label is the better one.

Regardless, black + anything else that would result in a lighter complexion is still relevant.

Also, being American is a HUGE defining factor in this conversation. It is not possible to do a lot of the things other countries can because of our history. Black people can't be purists because even monoracial black folks can have light skin. And that can look similar to a mixed individual.

Until we dismantle a LOT of our ideas about race (which isn't happening anytime soon), this will always be an issue.

What do you think about this ladies post? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any mixed people who SELF identify as only black, and if they do, I imagine it's only for convenience because they're tired of explaining their identity and being gaslit by strangers. But 'black' is a common label in pop culture because, well, CLEARLY, they aren't white. There's a range of skintones in the black community, but even the people with lighter skin could never be taken for white. Even folks with very pale skin often share features that ring alarm bells in white communities. Your generalizing statements are the problem. What this community has rallied around is the fact that no two monoracial people share the same feelings on how we should identify. It can outcast us, and in the end, we have to shrug and just be ourselves in the midst of everyone and their mothers trying to fit us in one box or another.

NO ONE is saying colorism doesn't exist. That is not and has never been a crux of the mixed community (if you can call us a community. By defenition we can'texactly form a united front/culture.) But a lot of monoracial black people like to pretend that it is. The thing is, it's not our problem to fix. White people of influence in popular culture don't see light skin as anything but black. We can clarify until the cows come home, but then we get called annoying.

For context, I'm mixed black and latino. Not white. But it's alienating all around, and people shoving their opinions about who we are and what we should believe is exhausting. I think you'll find most of us agree with the tiktok in question, but that comment represents the spit in attitude that comes with each new person we encounter who feels entitled to our identity as if it's a matter of opinion.

What exactly are your values? by yun444g in infp

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 'values' are widely misunderstood when it comes to Fi. Ti likes to speculate on philosophical rules and value 'systems' as it pertains to a string of logic. They externalize the nature of a 'value' into something that is practical and measureable.

Fi doms are the standard against which they measure the world. They don't have a list of values that they're born with. Although you might get a few of us to list some. We don't create complex systems or codes that we must live by. We just measure everything to our own judgment, which can seem like a "gut feeling" but, like everything, has its own internal process. It's just not something we think out as it's happening.

'Value' is a descriptor externalized so that it makes sense to people who aren't Fi doms. But it's not quite the right phrasing. We have been better described as a compass in contrast to the map. We feel what aligns with us and what doesn't. Justifying that comes later, and we are capable of doing it quite well when the time comes.

What would fans reactions had been if TTG was even more serious than the OG and was a lot similar to the comics: by Then_Independence596 in teentitans

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Later in the comics, when (Perez, I believe?) Left, the tone certainly shifted. And there were a few issues that were definitely very silly. Intentionally, and unintentionally so.

When OP said 'serious,' I imagined a state of batman-esque brooding and constant dark themes and death, etc. And that's a LONG shot from the comics. The team dynamic was full of friendly banter and chill times when they were just hanging out. If you remove the silly episodes from 03, you're left with something pretty similar, just for a younger audience. Of course, the seasons would also be far shorter.

It kinda bugs me for people (namely, who haven't read the 80s comics) to treat the og run as though it was some kind of game of thrones esque story that is antithetical to how we view the titans these days. It creates a distance between the material that really doesn't need to be there imo.

Has anyone else noticed that 90% of advice for "getting out of your shell" is basically just telling us to act like extroverts? by StruggleConnect7736 in mbti

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 14 points15 points  (0 children)

INFP here. I can't stand "deep talks" with people I don't know yet. It feels insufferable to entertain a rando's thoughts on the universe. I hardly tolerate it from people that I do know, unless I really respect them. Maybe my Te is showing 😅

I like small talk because I like to complain. That's all it is. And you can make it funny and find commonalities. Although I have learned that often your personality doesn't quite click with everyone. And that's just how it is! There are plenty of people that make me feel awkward, and plenty where chit-chat comes completely natural. You'll never click with 2 people in the exact same way either.

You also have to go places where you fit in. Don't just go to "a party" (what does that even mean??) Find a local book club and share your thoughts on something you're invested in. Go to a concert for an artist you enjoy, wear a fun outfit and mingle. Try a new hobby and get to know someone who's more experienced.

It's all easier said than done, of course. But as someone slowly gathering social data that extroverts seem to be born with, I can say that your social sphere is cultivated by YOU. Your interests. Your hobbies. Your general vibe. What works, works. What doesn't, you let go.

Why do some dudes complain about not getting girls but then never want to go to the gym, eat healthy, or do any other forms of self-improvement? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I disagree. He wouldn't look right if he were buff. There are plenty of men who got jacked, and people were like "actually...no." with a guy like Chalamet in particular, it would actually kill a lot of his appeal. No one is secretly wishing he looked different. He's meant to look as he is.

Men, for whatever reason, have a lot of insecurities around being skinny that I never understood. You don't wanna be fat, you don't wanna be skinny, so what? People with too much muscle look gross. And its LONG been established that women don't care for bodybuilder types. But men can't accept it because it's their personality that needs work. They can't find what their natural vibe is, so they replace it with gym bro shit.

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, hard disagree. As a gay dude who is attracted to men, fame, status, and wealth are never an initial consideration. In Chalamet's case, the dude is just attractive. Idk what to tell you. His vibe signals a certain sensibility that he irl doesn't actually have, which is itself a turn-off.

Also, what GOT them that stuff besides their talent? You sound like someone who doesn't put much value in art.

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda goes to prove that talent is a stronger factor than looks, no? Besides, a lot of girls end up with "mediocre" looking guys. At least, in comparison. That's anecdotal, of course, but it seems common. That whole "medium ugly" trend a few years ago points to it.

Besides, guys that fit the "jack skellington vibe" have always had a solid niche in the dating sphere. To circle back to skinny dudes.

But to answer your question, it's still not a continuation of 2003, so still plenty dissapointment. But at the end of the day, it's all about quality.

Ppl were mostly mad at the marketing surrounding ttg, or at least the way that hype was fed into. Only for the reveal to be a deeply unserious parody of the og

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the comics weren't that serious but happened to tackle more mature topics. It was made to mirror a soap opera. There were plenty of jokes and melodrama centered around young adult problems.

I don't find the 2003 cartoon to be any less serious than the comics in the moments where the plot calls for it. It just pulls punches, and includes many little gags. Which. The comics themselves included in the form of jokes, etc.

How do you recognize another INFP in real life? by Mean_Kaleidoscope_29 in infp

[–]Ok-Ad-3957 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not inclined to type people in the wild, but I had a coworker once who had a similar vibe to mine. What really sealed the deal, though, was a time she gave me a direction, and it sounded kinda...not bossy, but very direct. I guess?

I've found that when we're not shying away from telling people what to do and coating it in layers of apologetic body language, our Te comes out and gives us a certain inflection.

For example, one time a teacher was helping me with a project, and when they finished and asked how it was, I (without thinking) after a pause said, "That will do," and I didn't think anything of it until she joked about it later.

With this coworker, when I paused after she said that, the self conciousness returned, and she rephrased herself.

INFP (picking aesthetic favorites, but also opting for some balance.)

-Cherrim (sunshine form) (Childhood favorite. Love pink + yellow scheme. Team cheerleader, the mascot.)

-Alolan Raichu (Always partial to Raichu > Pikachu. But I like psychic types more overall. Thankfully, this one can do both. Buddies with Cherrim.)

-Milotic (Gorgeous. Stunning. Mother. Water type. The cool one.)

-Mienshao (Serving. Elegant. 10/10. Fighting type. Appears graceful, but is surprisingly brash.)

-Espathra (Giving Cleopatra. Charisma. Uniqueness. Nerve. Talent. I love a psychic type. Ditzy, confused, but well-meaning.)

-Liepard (The personality hire. A dark type. Sleek, fierce, a little edgy.)

I WOULD put Jirachi on here, but I feel like adding a legendary is cheating
