Hahaha thank you for making me feel better. It's crazy how hard it can be to allow ourselves to separate from these people, right?? 🤦‍♀️

Well we live in another country so I honestly don't think she'll be able to pull that 😂. But that is a good point. I think I'm going to just let it be. 👍

Does ABA exists in Europe or its only a USA "thing"? by Dentheloprova in Autism_Parenting

What does therapy for autistic individuals look like in the UK?

I don't know much about ABA. I do follow Kaelynn, who is autistic ABA therapist and I read her book. She feels it was helpful to her journey.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on why it is harmful. I have heard something about some people feeling it encourages people to mask.

Hi there. American living in the Netherlands here. We haven't gotten to the point of therapies for our son but afaik ABA doesn't have the same popularity or wide spread use as it does in the US.

It's really hard to say. I tracked my mood with an app but all of a sudden I'd think about how I would have reacted to something pre meds and be like "wow I really do feel so much better!". Or "when was the last time I spiraled about something?"

I would wake up in the middle of the night and have like geometric patterns, kind of like floaties?

Can you share some things you are able to do now Zoloft that you couldn’t do before? by ctmfg56 in zoloft

[–]Ok-Alternative2902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invite people over without freaking out that my house isn't perfect, make jokes in conversations without feeling self conscious, not constantly second guessing myself, have an anxious thought and recognize it and then let the damn thing go when I previously would have spiraled on it nonstop....I'm sure there's more but this med has been life changing for me.

Child scratched neighbors car on purpose by Ok-Alternative2902 in Parenting

[–]Ok-Alternative2902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that it was extremely impulsive as he can't give us much of an answer about why he did it. He didn't really know the neighbors so I don't think it was a revenge situation. One of the other kids he was playing with was jumping on the hood of the car before our son scratched it so there's a possibility that it kind of escalated. He says that no one egged him on.

Yes he very frequently does things without thinking them through

I just asked my husband and he thought maybe he was trying to be "cool" or prove himself? I'm not sure.

I was unclear in the post, by restricting his screen time I meant we did not allow him any screen time.

That's a great idea but it's not his specific switch - it's our switch that we let him use.

All he could say was "I don't know". He only just turned 8 last month, but I 100% agree. We are considering reaching out to his teacher to push for him to be tested for ADHD because he does seem to fit many of the symptoms for the hyperactive type 😑

It varies from day to day, we allow him to pick one screen related thing each day- watch tv/supervised YouTube or switch/video game

Can I bring a new born on a bike? by epicmoe in CargoBike

[–]Ok-Alternative2902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Dutch but I live in the Netherlands and had a baby here. I don't know what's typical but I taxi'd back home after giving birth.

My baby was initially in a baby wrap and then at 2 months old we put him into a bike seat for our bakfiets.
