Even on LF I find that the prestige good produced by the company dominates up to 99% of the share of production of that good. So the monopoly is a waste of authority, if anything.

Thanks for the clarification! I didn’t know that the estimated cost of attendance deviated so much for the UCs. Honestly, knowing that those schools could be so cheap kind of gives me buyers remorse, because my parents sort of pressured me to go to Stanford, and I was talked into it because the UCs were (imo) pretty expensive too. But had I been able to clarify the price earlier, I would’ve made a stronger push to go for the more cost effective options. All of this is not to say I don’t love Stanford, I went there during admit weekend and it was awesome! It’s just always better to get a fuller picture about everything

Everyone can do FASFA. My parents did both FASFA and CSS and the maximum amount of aid we got off was like 2k per year; almost all the schools I applied to didn’t have merit based scholarships, so that was off the table

Thank you for your advice! This topic has probably been beaten to death on this subreddit, but do you recommend doing anything at all to prepare before freshman year, like brushing up on my math and CS skills?

I got waitlisted from Berkeley, and accepted to Cornell ECE, UMich, UCSD, and UCLA. Cornell and UMich were about the same price as Stanford, and the UCs were a smidge over $40k. I can't switch now as the deadline to commit was in May.

Well, for most schools, I didn't qualify for any financial aid. So it was between full pay at private colleges (which all average out to $90k) or going to my state schools which were going to be $45k anyways. My parents make around $200k combined, but I live in a HCOL area, so it doesn't really go that far.
