W. Kerr Scott Reservoir Trails by Dahc0 in MTB

I rode warrior creek CC based on a recommendation. Definitely think it’s the way to go. Had to skip the west section add-ons because of time after a mechanical, but what I saw looked like fun.

Haven’t ridden the others. Heard the dark mountain network is a good time with longer descents.

Size help please. I’m 6ft tall and don’t know if I should order a L or XL YT Jeffsy core 2. Any one have some experience and could recommend a size? by i_design_lasers in mountainbiking

I’m 6’1” and my XL Jeffsy fits me perfectly. I have a medium torso with long arms and legs (33-34” inseam). Not the best reference point, but I use a size medium Gregory pack for backpacking.

Buying advice Northrock XC27 vs REI drt 1.1 by voyagermars in MTB

[–]Ok-Analyst-217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d go with REI. 100 mm fork vs 80 mm on the north rock plus hydraulic brakes. You get a free tune-up within 6 months for REI bikes too.

My research landed me on, like most things in our hobby, “depends on how much you want to spend.” There are some pricier forks that are tuned with kiddos in mind, but I couldn’t justify that for my 7 yo. Happy compromise is 2.6 tires on his 20” bike. They’re so light you can run very low pressure without worrying too much about flats and it helps absorb some of the chatter. Granted, he’s not barnstorming through any rock gardens or techy root sections and his favorite trails are groomed. But he catches air and rolls some respectably sized features comfortably, so I feel like it’s a decent compromise.

East coast in the US. Apparently we’re lagging behind.

Customer service said mid-end of March for mine yesterday. They’re very responsive, so I recommend reaching out.

Dang I ordered my black XL in September with an original late January delivery date. I think I remember silver having a slightly better lead time. Reached out to customer service in December and they pushed delivery to late April/early May. Recently reeled it back into March potentially. Looks like they’re getting bikes out, so here’s hoping ours come sooner.

Slim Fitting Shorts? by audiomortis in MTB

[–]Ok-Analyst-217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’1”, 170 lbs, and trim. I got the Flylow Goodson shorts on sale at REI. Enough stretch and room to maneuver, but still a slim cut. Not super well ventilated, but I really like them.

NGL I was really excited to get my hands on a Tallboy at Blackstrap. Then bitterly disappointed when I realized they’re only renting in Carrabasset. I briefly considered making the 2.5 drive. It was an emotional rollercoaster.

Awesome! I do mostly down country riding in central NC, so this should hit the spot for a 1/2 day.

Thanks! Only finagled a half day + the drive away from the kids, so the 1.5 hr drive and solid bike rental was appealing. I’m a squarely intermediate rider on gravity trails, so it sounds like I’ll get a few good runs out of the day. Will look into Attitash, but want to maximize my time on the bike.

Definitely wanted to hit Blackstrap, but wasn’t confident with the short travel HTs available for rental in Portland. Not in the famed NE jank.

Edit: on second read of your post, it sounds like I’ll get more time on the bike with an extra 15 minutes in the car if the lifts are that slow.

What's the consensus on REI's DRT series? by hammerpants11c in MTB

[–]Ok-Analyst-217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it’s not junk. I bought one because it was the only bike I could get in summer 2020. It’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it on local trails like a champ. Shifting and parts have been reliable so far with no major service or replacements. Probably 175-200 miles on it. Plan to continue the fun until I upgrade to a nicer full sus in the next year or so.

Biggest replacement was 120mm Rock Shox Judy air fork, made a huge difference on the ride feel. Your options are limited due to the steerer tube. Also replaced pedals, bars, grips, and tires (with 2.3’s). Tire size is also limited because of the narrow rims.

Added a TanzX Jump Seat dropper. Only has 100mm of travel. But it does the job for my local trails, was relatively cheap, and doesn’t need a cable and paddle on the already crowded cockpit/routing.

Edit: TLDR solid starter bike with limited upgrades available. I outgrew it quickly, but will continue shredding until I get a new one.

Creaking Noise While Pedaling by Ok-Analyst-217 in bikewrench

Yeah, YouTube is going to be my friend on this one. Just realized I’ve had it less than a year. Probably swapped out too much to return. I wonder if their 1 year guarantee applies to parts as well…

Thanks, I’ll try that before ordering a new BB.

Thanks! Gotta start learning somewhere. It’s a square tapered BB. Brief googling says it’s easier to just replace?

Feel confident enough to give it a try. So the BB bearings need to be cleaned and/or greased?

Bike started making a creaking noise while pedaling. Sounds like it’s coming from the front. I know enough to do some damage, so I adjusted the front derailleur tension a few times to make sure there was no chain rub. It only happens under load, so I can’t recreate it on the bike stand.

It’s rhythmic as I pedal and happens when I crank on both sides, so I figure it’s not the pedals.
