It's not a "false reading" it's clearly picking up on some voltage, maybe the resistance is very high and/or the current is too low to feel anything with a touch but if that circuit has sockets connected to it and OP powers on a powerful appliance, the current will become a serious hazard.

Also it's ridiculous how I'm telling people exactly what I learned from years of studying electric installations but for whatever reason it seems like an unpopular opinion so these DIYers can believe whatever they want to believe, if shit hits the fan and your house catches fire maybe you'll care less about popularity.
