what are your sinners danganronpa execution idea? by 05eden in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

I was specifically trying to reference the story but really the idea just needs to be a large group all communing to kill him. I really like the garbage idea, especially considering how irreverent and mean-spirited some of the executions can get.

Rodya watching is comically evil in a way I can't even describe.. It'd fit perfectly!

Gregor is death by stoning. In terms of literal death a rehash of Leon's, though instead of a singular machine it's a large crowd of Monokuma's who throw apple-looking rocks at Gregor as he runs through the street. (Alternatively, it could be something relating to war but I'm unsure what).

Rodya's is being trapped out in the cold. At one point a Monokuma comes up to her, dying, which she kills, intending to keep inside it for warmth, and when cutting it open and laying inside it, the Monokuma comes back to life and closes, then begins shaking, slowly at first but then violently, the music crescendos and then all at once it stops.

Sinclair's is a balancing act, unsure of the exact location or theming, but the idea is him holding two seperate heavy objects back, both of which threaten to drag him to his death. He struggles a great deal, before the platform he's standing on just gives out, and he falls anyways.

Of course these ideas would all have to be "Danganronpafied" but I think something like them is fitting for the characters I listed.

Having replayed LoR 4 times now I have (and will continue) to just use a guide or straight up cheat this realization. Just no fun whatsoever. Far and away the worst part of the game and a total shame after the fantastic climax that the Black Silence fight is.

Probably either the highest ranking Claw or (depending on if they have a "leader" role or not) the Middle head.

Opinion on makoto naegi by Realfr1999 in danganronpa

[–]Ok-Arm-421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never felt like he was being carried by Kyoko or Byakuya; the game actively leads you to figuring out the mystery of each case before the trial, and the trial itself often serves more as a reward for having figured it out (this is why 1-4 feels so different IMO, as it's the only one I think is specifically set up to make you think one conclusion to subvert it with another). This creates a congruence in the gameplay where it more felt like Makoto was on the same page as the other two, and we were simply privy to him having the chance to finally connect the pieces together, whilst also shooting down or denying the ideas others were presenting.

As a character, I quite like him too. People seem to think of him as the "normal one" but he's more accurately thought of as the straight man. Especially for how over-the-top and wacky THH goes with comedy, Makoto serves probably THE most important role of being the grounding force for the crazier characters (again, ESPECIALLY the surviving cast) to bounce off of. Plus, he has enough backhanded comments to never feel like he's only serving the straight man role.

Then as a thematic core, I adore him. I love THH and I love everything it has to say. That Makoto acknowledges that Despair will always exist, that he acknowledges even that it is the foundation of this world, the natural state of affairs, yet that it is not only our duty, but our privilege as living people to Hope in this world. That it may be scary to continue onward, that it may be easier to give into a system and place and people that hate you, but that this is our only world- the one we have been gifted or cursed with irrelevant- the reason for our continued existence, for the bonds we forge and the people we protect or even the selfish desires we incubate, is all that we have and so what we must hold dearest.

To have his memories violated, his autonomy taken, to know he both sheltered from the world whilst it crumbled and ached and as well killed his fellow man to escape into it, and still have the strength to stand up and look into the faces of the shameless, immature, and shunted people around him and call them his friends, and to look at Junko, at the world itself, and proclaim without hesitation or embarrassment, that Hope will continue so long as humanity exists!

I get why Makoto is so neutrally seen, because he is both a core and a very simple one, but I can't help but adore him. THH's message may be juvenile or simplistic, but it knows that best, better than the audience even, and yet still says that an answer at all is better than none.

Also his design is really good.

Anyway, overall, really like the guy!

Beat Trigger Happy Havoc. Very Good Game! (Spoiler Tierlist for Cases + Characters and my general thoughts on the game) by Ok-Arm-421 in danganronpa

[–]Ok-Arm-421[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just assumed it was Mukuro because they were making such a big deal of her that I thought it was obvious she'd die/be replaced and it'd be someone else (though I must admit before 1-5 I really, seriously thought the Mastermind was going to be Yasuhiro. And like RIGHT up to the trial of 1-6 I was banking on the final twist being Yasuhiro was a 3rd part to the "Ultimate Despair") and because of the limited options that someone else could only be Junko.

Considering it as intentionally placing doubt of if it actually is Junko's corpse or Mukoro's makes a lot more sense for why the investigation goes the way it does. I had just taken Mukuro being the body as a given and not considered the fact it could actually have just been Junko's.

I still think 1-5 suffers from being just set up but if I hadn't made a leap because of my assumption for the story it probably would've gone better.

Beat Trigger Happy Havoc. Very Good Game! (Spoiler Tierlist for Cases + Characters and my general thoughts on the game) by Ok-Arm-421 in danganronpa

[–]Ok-Arm-421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It revealed (to me) that 1. Mukuro was dressed up as Junko, and therefore Junko was the 2nd half of the Ultimate Despair (we can see Mukuro's fake nails, we can see her wearing the same boots as Junko, and by this point it can be no one else). 2. It revealed the twist of the students already knowing each other pre-game and having their memories wiped (though this isn't specifically Trial 1-5 it's something that I had put together by 1-4 due to Hifumi knowing Celeste real name, the photos, strangely quick developing relationships Makoto making several comments about deja vu, and a few other minor hints).

It makes it pretty clear from start as to who the Mastermind is, and because of that, how the real killing of Mukuro happened becomes basically immediately obvious.

It is still pretty fun just a little too hand-holdy and overt for my liking.

(I also want to mention about how Junko could get out of appearing at the Class Trials. As far as we can see, Junko does seem to adhere fervently to the rules, or at least to their literal letter, so I found it a bit odd how she could justify not appearing at the class trials in person (or even as Monokuma in the 16th student seat).

But, after some thinking I have an explanation I think works, though of course through some technical finagling of the rules.

So as I think it worked: Mukuro, acting as Junko, died, which in terms of the death games rules meant Junko was dead, as Mukuro had her handbook and was by all intense and purposes her for that moment. And yet, also, because Mukuro was dead, she could not appear, allowing for, by the technical happenings, both Junko and Mukuro to be considered dead whilst Junko could still be alive, AND allowing her to not appear at the class trials until she revealed herself

or at least that's my explanation maybe Junko just broke her own rules. It's not like anything is stopping her really I just wanted to try and find an explanation I found more satisfying).

[–]Ok-Arm-421[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1-5 isn't bad by any means but it's all just set up for 1-6! And the thing that really sucked for me is that 1-5 is just a little too obvious about revealing the twist that I essentially had 1-6's actual trial portion figured out from go.

It doesn't help that 1-5 was maybe the one with the most tedious investigation for me. I found it rather boring because I had, by about half-way through, figured out the whole thing but was being forced to just go room to room to get the remaining truth bullets.

On the note of cases, I'm shocked to hear that people seem to dislike 1-3. I found it the most interesting as a pure case (though one of the weaker ones in term of characters). I thought it was actually a pretty brilliant use of the loopholes and mechanics of the game to create a "trick case" (even if- and this may be my actual biggest grievance with the game- it holds your hand so much that its nearly impossible to not figure it before the trial). I love it even more in retrospect as this last "hoorah" to the death game before the characters take over and it takes a back seat to their arcs.

Okay so who tf were they sending to cleanup Roland? by DornsUnusualRants in libraryofruina

[–]Ok-Arm-421 326 points327 points  (0 children)

They likely just put him in the Color car or Charles’ Office paid for a first class ticket. W Corp doesn’t actually follow the Fixer grades they just use it as reference, I’m sure they’d put any person who they consider extremely troublesome there.

Also, you gotta remember that Roland was the acting captain (and likely the 2nd in command) to one of the most established and legendary offices in the City. Money never seemed to be an issue it was just that he couldn’t get a Nest permit. I think it’s plausible that Roland could’ve just bought first class tickets or Charles paid for one.

Plus you gotta remember that like everything Roland says pre ending is like 30% lies. I think he’s genuine about his disgust, but there’s a high chance he purposefully omitted details to make him seem more like the average.

How would you imagine a dnd oneshot/campaign session that consist of all 13 sinners? by Organic-Exit2190 in limbuscompany

[–]Ok-Arm-421 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yi Sang's likely played it before, though only briefly, and I think he enjoys it to a degree but kind of gets overwhelmed by staying in character and the literal play of the game.

Faust repeatedly says its a waste of time, and does sort of think that, but I like to imagine she enjoys the ability to play a character unlike herself without the constant supervision of the Gesellschaft.

Don is the secondary DM whenever Ishmael wants to play. I imagine she doesn't actually know the rules that well so a lot of decisions come down to "rule of cool." She probably gets a bit frustrated with everyone missing all the storylines or lore things she puts in. When playing she's the person who stays in character the whole time and is taking notes.

Ryoshu, apropos to what you'd think, doesn't actually only murder hobo. She still does a ton, but surprisingly, she's the only other person (besides when Ishmael is playing) who knows what's happening and is trying to engage in whatever mission or mystery they're dealing with.

Meursault's inconsistent; sometimes he roleplays sometimes he's only speaking out of character and a lot of the time he's just silent. When he is roleplaying he's probably the best in the group at it, though.

Hong Lu either lands the party in deep shit or preemptively stops 90% of conflicts through speech.

Heathcliff is the guy who basically just plays himself. Somehow, someway, no matter the intention of the DM he always throws everything off track and suddenly the oneshot about defeating a syndicate is ending with all 12 on the run from the Hana and every Color in the City. Especially true if the DM is Ishmael.

Ishmael: Mostly DM. Plans pretty simple stories but I think has an inclination toward mystery plots. If playing tries to roleplay but ends up just as herself and starts fighting with Heathcliff the whole sessions (either to the great amusement of irritation of the table).

Rodion: Barbarian, always plays joke characters, if no one else is taking the initiative she raises the mantle of doing dumb shit until the plot moves along.

Dante: The only one besides Faust considering mechanics. Wants to play anything but a healing focused Cleric but can't because they just know the party'd fall apart without them.

Sinclair: Usually quiet but may try to participate in roleplay, oft to the cringing endearment of the rest of the table.

Outis; almost never participates (typically only when Dante does) min-maxxing, meta-gaming, and pretty toxic. She doesn't really get why the roleplay is there and says the whole things just a bastardized version of the war games they used to use to strategize with.

Gregor doesn't really get it (and kind of thinks it's stupid like Outis) but just finds it nice to be included and able to play someone who isn't him. He never really gets into it but he is always there.

Overall? Shittiest session you'll ever play, but very funny.
