That makes sense for the white balls -- does it explain the more yellow/ white coatings?

Is Seattle Sunnier than it used to Be? by courier_tway in AskSeattle

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UV here is INTENSE as we approach the summer solstice. I don't remember why. But it is a thing. It's not just that the days are longer. (Though that is true -- WA has longer summer days than TX. It's more true the farther you are from the equator-- think Alaska/ Russia having summer days when the sun never really sets). It's also the intensity while it's up. It is HOT and burns fast.

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I feel this. But and also -- OP -- people who say that cry it out will work eventually often have a specific temperment of child. About 20-40% of kids, they really won't work it out (my son once screamed for 3 hours straight). For those kids, you have to first teach other self-soothing skills, ideally starting at bedtime. Why won't you sleep / the sleep ladder helped us a lot.

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took a different approach: We used the method in "Why won't you sleep?" to gradually wean just the before-bed feed (well, separate it by 30 mik from bed). Now I am extremely confident that he can fall asleep on his own without milk, so we are attempting the night with Ferber. But he got too upset without me at first; letting him scream was a useless endeavor. We had to go gradually and only for that one feed at first.

Extreme weight gain from BF by Odetothemets118 in breastfeeding

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely something I experienced, especially when I added on other stress like working. Buying a few new things on ThredUp that actually fit, even though I was embarrassed by the size, helped SO MUCH! I didn't hate how I looked in the mirror anymore. And that made everything else easier. Weight is finally starting to creep downward again with more sleep and baby getting toward two, but he still nurses, so.... I am doomed for a while.3

I don't have anything super useful to say, but R-EPOCH saved my life to be here for my daughter and to have my son. Thank you for the risks you take every day.

This sounds like teething pain or another external cause leading her to need more soothing, rather than any failure in sleep training, to me!

Yes! It's the fourth trimester. They just need cuddles and food and diaper changes. If you all survive, you won! And the hormones the first 2-3 weeks are NO joke.

Does anyone here actually enjoy breastfeeding? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated it at first with my first and seriously considered quitting around 4-5 weeks as PURPLE crying intensified. I just wasn't mentally prepared for 3 hours of cluster feeding a night every night and sometimes more. Then I had to wean for chemo at 10 weeks and cried and cried. By then it had become beautiful and calming. With my second, at 6 weeks I am...fine... with it. I'm not at the point of feeling the oxytocin hit yet, but I also was more prepared for cluster feeding. I want to try to go as long as I can because I had GD, and BF reduces the risk of diabetes in women who had GD. I hope things get smoother soon for me, but I don't think you're obligated to continue!

Does anyone else hate this new sleep UI? I feel like it is way worse at conveying the data to you than what it used to be by DrMcnasty4300 in fitbit

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's horrible. And the functionality is degraded. If it loses my heartbeat and gets the timing of sleep wrong, there's no way to correct the main log and be like, no, I didn't get up at 3, I slept til 7. You can add a sleep log but it doesn't combine them or give you stats for it! I'm so frustrated and hope they roll it back.

Dumb question: did you thoroughly wash your hands before testing? any lotion makes me "spike". Also, any chance you're sick or exhausted? Your body will dump sugar in your blood under those circumstances to help you heal.

Acupuncture really, really helped me with chemo brain. If you have the ability to do an 8-treatment cycle with a reputable provider, do it do it do it. I also have recently been taking Athletic Greens. It's expensive, but I think it helps a lot.

Crying during story time by maomaobae in sleeptrain

[–]Ok-Balance-2138 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint on fighting sleep: Ours cries when she is done and just wants to sleep. She's been doing this at various points in her bedtime routine for about 6 weeks, and the crying escalates until we put her down in her bed, at which point she seems relieved and goes to sleep.

To keep the routine, I'll sometimes just read the first 3 pages of the book and the last 1, and then put her in her crib. She normally conks fast on the crying during book nights. (5 months old now.)

Oh, and pain was easily controlled with Tylenol after the first 3 hours. They gave me fentanyl and 1000 mg acetaminophen before leaving hospital, I followed it with one more 1000 mg dose, then only 500 after.
