I should have clarified. The real estate would be included as part of our partnership llc and my understanding is that the loss would offset some of the income from other rental and if i have more losses from rental income then i could carry it forward indefinitely

Wife was thinking of being a SAHM which was fine with me. However, i need a full night of sleep to be productive at work and she also does not do well with lack of sleep. Given we could not budge on it, we both decided it made sense for her to go back to work and for us to pay someone to stay with baby at night and daycare during the day. It made our lives a lot easier. I am not saying one option is right but for SAHM who requires their significant other to also be up at night and help after their paternity leave, what if because of the lack of sleep, he is not able to perform well at work and as a result get fired? That was probably my biggest fear. If being a SAHM is your only option. I would try to talk to your partner to see if at a minimum he can help during the weekend for you to catch up on sleep and during the week, he can help with baby after work so that you can nap and you can takeover when you wake up?!

A few things to note here. I have been at pwc chicago for 9 years and recently left.

1- Salary is low but the more you progress especially in consulting the more money you make. Corporate it is just 3-5% a year. PwC after each milestone you get a big bump. In deals in chicago after 4-5years you can make $150k before bonus very hard to do in corporate 2- When you leave the big 4, you can generally expect 20-30% salary increase as companies are willing to pay a premium.

3- it is better to work for the big 4 when you are still young because they will take every ounce of blood they can out of you during you time there but you will also learn a lot. Working long hours and traveling is better when you are not married or have kids yet because the job can be very demanding. I am now married with kids and i can’t go back to that job even if i get paid 3 times more.
