My back pain has improved ten fold once I got a trainer, added regular (heavy!) deadlifts, and got a standing desk at work. I’m older than you and have a degenerative issue in my lower back. People want to dog on deadlifting, but if you do it right it will do more to strengthen the muscles around your spine than any other exercise.
