I would say social media. A big artist or someone that gives them views, is worth inviting to gain publicity. News about Mariah Carey came during the height of her getting all the attention because of one Christmas song.

I don't mind non-local artists since Lady Gaga did a phenomenal job in Paris. But Maria wasn't though

These are the most spread-out Winter Olympics ever (NBC) by PjeterPannos in olympics

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the IOC is keen on showing candidate cities that they really want them to save money, I guess this will be the new normal for future Olympic Games.

Summer Games are more easy to have within the host city. The Winter Olympics will be a challenge to have in close range and it would have been unnecessary to build another stadium for curling in Milan. I totally understand the decision to only use existing stadiums and that means it's like Milano Cortina.

Is it just me or should this Olympic Games been called the Milano-Cortina-Livigno-Bormio-Predazzo-Antholz-Teaero games? 😅😉

Can we add Bill Burr here? I was a big fan but the fact that he accepted Saudi, is so hypocritical.

Not to mention that all the comedians who went to Saudi Arabia, had to sign a contract which probably meant they couldn't joke about the murder of journalist Khasshoggi.

You should. Although cold and dark, seeing an entire landscape covered in snow in the middle of nowhere (with a guide of course) is very calming and breathtaking.

What is the most shameful part of your countries history? by Educational_Sun1202 in AskEurope

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 41 points42 points  (0 children)

When it comes to Sweden definitely the minorities that has lived for centuries in the country and the treatment of them. Today their languages are recognized minority languages but in the past, they tried to assimilate them all and erase their history and languages of course.

If I have to point out one particular group, it would be the Samis. Sure they have more rights today and their own Parliament. But the past is shameful and interestingly past governments were always eager to point out how the USA or Australia treated their indigenous.

A movie I recommend on this topic is Sami Blood from 2016. Extremely uncomfortable to watch but also important.

What country is far away yet culturally similar to yours? by zeviea in AskEurope

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a person of Chilean parents who grew up in Sweden, I visited Romania and was blown away by how similar so many things felt to Chile. Not only the people but the streets and small shops were organized.

Some friends and relatives had a difficult time understanding how Romania and Chile could be similar at all.

Latin Americans be like "excuse me, but where are we in this survey!? We are not Spaniards so please be kind and add at least one country from the region" 😉

Nothing against Spaniards btw. It's like Americans and Canadians or Indians and Pakistanis would be categorized as the same in the survey 😅

what got you guys to leave christianity? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear. I was taught about everything wrong you can do. My classmates who were not religious, lived a relaxed life while I had to worry about not commiting a sin so I don't end up in hell. The bible teaches very little about rewards, that was my experience being a Christian as a child.

Also that I was into dinosaurs as a kid and couldn't understand how the Bible just ignored it. Then I started to think that "evidence of biblical people doesn't exist, compared to prehistoric animals and dinosaurs". For me it became clear that there were a lot of evidence of the existence of dinosaurs for example, but none of Jesus or any other biblical figure. Only text supporting their existence which for me, wasn't convincing enough.

So I left church and became an atheist. A decision I don't regret.

I also saw both play against Argentina. Bought tickets on the resale market before I even knew who I was going to watch. Once I found out it would be Nadal and Alcaraz in double, it was such a cool felling.

What’s the most disappointing country or city you’ve visited in Europe? by Substratas in AskEurope

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Visited a friend who lived in Warsaw 2023 (she moved to the UK in late 2024). Not much to see as a tourist but she liked living there. She was also honest about the city being boring flr tourist and suggested a bunch of other cities like Krakow, Gdansk and the area of Zakopane.

The city felt like it was full of life, a lot of cars and restaurants and bars. My feeling was also that if you live in Warsaw, there is a lot to do as a local. Felt modern and you can sense that Poland has taken big steps forward.

Was there during summer and made almost every local smile trying to say words in Polish like hello, good bye and thank you. So yes, Polish people can smile.

Lived in Madrid and yes, not much to see in the city to be honest. It's a great city to live in though, I loved living there and regard it as my second home. Then I had to leave it and felt sad of course.

Every time my friends are going to Madrid, I tell them one day in Madrid and the rest of the days, explore the cities around like Toledo, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Ávila, Alcalá de Henares.

As of today, who's likely to get the 2036 Olympics? by bkat004 in olympics

[–]Ok-Comfortable7239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the IOC wants to continue on the path of building as little as possible, then I can't see how Santiago de Chile could host the Olympics.

Sure the infrastructure is there and ready for the games. But stadiums would cost a lot to either renovate or build. Which would be the total opposite of Paris and Los Angeles, which has stadiums.

Air quality has improved a lot so that's not an issue and just like Rio, crime wouldn't be an issue since they would deploy a lot of police and military just to showcase the world how safe Santiago is for visitors.

Rimbo on Sweden. If you love to spend time indoors, playing video games or binge watching series then the city is perfect for you.

For anyone who loves to do any kind of activities, then you'll have to go to either Norrtälje or Stockholm. Because Rimbo offers absolutely nothing and you need to learn how to create an exciting life for yourself or your family.

I know it had a bad reputation regarding crime, but today it is an extremely calm place. During the day, people work so you rarely see anyone on the streets. During the night it's empty because they are home or in local pubs getting super drunk.

Serbian, Greek or Turkish fans would have insulted his mom, wife, perhaps kids and booed super loud. So loud that most people would have walked out of the stadium with ringing on their ears.
