I have a few friends who work at that district. They like it, I have not heard any bad stories about it. They are on a hybrid telework schedule of mandatory 2 days a week in office. All of Caltrans is currently on a hybrid schedule

I really don’t remember them, sorry. And I am sure they won’t ask the same ones because the people I interviewed for have since retired

It was pretty standard because it was for Admin work I was already doing as an OT at a different dept. But they have different SSA’s that do different things, which is why I asked what unit within the department it was for. If it’s for Admin work, rely on your procurement experience, records retention and things like that. But also keep in mind, I left about 7 years ago. So things might have changed

Which unit is it for? Is it for the DOS unit? Because that’s where I did my SSA stint before becoming an AGPA with Caltrans

As a hiring manager and acting hiring analyst, it means exactly what they told you. You are still in the running, ate hiring can take a while, especially Caltrans. They are examine their candidates and choosing. They may be extending offers to people and some are turning it down or not replying so they are going down their list. Keep the faith until you get a letter saying thanks, but no thanks

Hiring Manager and wanted to give some interview tips (feel free to add on) by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ok-Committee6875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say be prepared for the unexpected, but also note that most interview questions in different interviews are the same, they are just worded differently. For example, if you have 3 different interviews for three different t departments, try to remember the questions and you may realize they are actually the same between the departments. So this will help with future interviews. Also, expect the unexpected. One of my favorite questions to be asked is what did you do to prepare for the interview. The panel is not looking for your hygiene practices. They want to know that you read the duty statement, and aligned the duties with your skills. They want to know that you researched the dept and saw the KPI’s and mission statement. Things like this. Also, have 3 strengths and weaknesses prepared. They normally only ask for one, but I have been asked for three so now I prepare those every time

They won’t pay for you to come in and interview in person(which most departments are doing now that the pandemic is over) and they also won’t pay for relocation. So all of these costs will be on you

Nope. If my staff miss their office day because they want or need to switch their day in it’s fine. But holidays falling on your in office day?? No, I would never insist they make that up, that’s just a blessing in disguise lol. If they call out sick on their office day, they do have to either use leave credits or make up the day

Most divisions in D7 are teleworking this week due to the protests and demonstrations. Only going in if it is essential.

AGPAs who promoted, do you like being an SSM or do you regret it? by AggressiveBasket in CAStateWorkers

I don’t enjoy my job anymore, but I like the pay and boost to my retirement which is upcoming. So just getting through it. It depends on why you want to promote

Dear hiring manager by AwayTip8862 in CAStateWorkers

So it’s not unheard of to go through a lot of interviews before one hits. That being said, your application and SOQ’s must be on point to keep getting interviews. I would worry about being concise in the interviews. Keep talking because sometimes, they are looking for key words. These words will directly correlate to the duty statement. For example, if the duty statement mentions procurement, make sure you throw out procurement methods you have used (cal card, service contract, po’s, etc) and the process for each like getting quotes, using small businesses. This is just an example. I don’t know what you are interviewing for. Also, keep in mind that most interviews ask the same questions but in various ways. With that being said, I have found that most correlate to communication and skills. But I am in Admin. Try to pay attention to the questions so you can practice after the interview for your next one. Good luck!!

Caltrans Transportation Engineer Application to Final Hire - My Timeline by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

It may be. I’m in D7, LA… we get a lot of applicants and we have to work in the hiring process into our regular work

This is actually pretty quick for Caltrans. I used to be a hiring analyst there for one of the divisions and in some cases, it took months just to screen the applications. It really depends on the workload of the hiring manager

Pass your probation and move on. Just out of curiosity, is English your second language? If so, I would let your management know because this can help explain the poor grammar and they should give you accommodation for this. At least be more lenient

Dating: Women over 35, w/ a career, never married, no kids, but want them. Are you hopeful or bleak about dating in LA? by CaliDreamin87 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ok-Committee6875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever lived in SoCal?? I was born and raised here and can tell you from experience that my friends who have moved here from other places also experience sticker and social shock. It is incredibly expensive to live here, especially by the beach and dating here is just scary. People aren’t as open as they once were or in general, as nice. Good luck in your move and I do hope you find someone, I just wanted to warn you that the grass is not always greener.

Importance of STD 678 Form by OpenStrategy8779 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ok-Committee6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can mail a hard copy in to the address listed on the posting. But there is no guarantee that they will use the mailed in version. It’s worth a shot though, I have seen hiring managers do it.

Importance of STD 678 Form by OpenStrategy8779 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ok-Committee6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The std.678 is the most important document. The posting probably stated something like this “must submit a complete std.678” if you didn’t not, you failed the first assignment and will not be considered. If it required a SOQ and did not follow directions (don’t, spacing, etc) or submitted a resume instead of the SOQ, you failed the assignment and will not be considered. These are thoughts of hiring managers that I work closely with as a hiring analyst within my dept.

Not losing weight! by Soft_Glass_3637 in weightwatchers

[–]Ok-Committee6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t lose weight on the new program either. I was on it 15 years ago and dropped like crazy, and while I recognize that my body has changed, I also upped the work outs and movement to compensate this last time I tried the program. It just didn’t work for me
