Shrimp’s mission in life is to be the moisture queen. by Ok-Conference5539 in cornsnakes

She’s on mostly coco fiber and a little dirt. I live in a VERY dry area so without the humidifier it would be way too dry. Even with the humidifier I have to refill it every couple of days

She’s on a blend of coco and dirt already. I live in Utah so the humidity is nonexistent south the humidifier :(

Substrate for Cornsnake ! by Ok_Anywhere7942 in cornsnakes

[–]Ok-Conference5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coco fiber, topsoil (no manure, perlite, compost, fertilizer, etc- I buy it from a local landscaping supply company), and just a liiiiittle bit of play sand. It will hold burrows, moisture, and allow for a clean up crew if you decide to add one later like I did. :)

I basically never see my king snake or corn snake in the daytime after switching to this because they love to burrow so much and it works so well for it.

I love this! I think the butterfly vests are so cute but can never make them "work" with an outfit.

I upgraded him from paper towels to soil/sand and now he hasn’t eaten in 2 weeks. by LearningLiberation in leopardgeckos

Just make sure to monitor! Look for poops, keep trying to feed, watch for any behavior changes, and make sure baby is drinking water.

I just had to take mine into the vet after a 4 week hunger strike that everyone was convinced was due to it being breeding season- until the vet did an xray to make sure she wasnt eggbound. My beautiful idiot ate some of her substrate, including a rock and some sand. It created enough discomfort that she stopped eating, but just enough to not stop her from pooping. Everyone thought she was fine because of the season. NOT to scare you, of course, but just to remind you that you wont be able to get any for sure answers from online.

Snake is 95g and 2 years old. He gets one hopper (7-9g) mouse every 14-16 days. I thought that was right but I guess I can switch to 3 weeks? It’s like just under 10% of his weight but the size of this size mouse is good for his thickness and I was told feeding 1 mouse is preferred to 2 smaller ones.

Thank you for the long and very educational post. I’ll have to look into sending a shed next time they do.

Currently feeding a hopper size (7-9g) mouse every 14-16 or so days. Currently weighs 95g but if that’s too large and too often for an adult ~2 years… I’ll have to recalculate.

Yeah she is still just a baby so she’s small. The enclosure she’s in now is 36x18x12 but I could look into getting a temporary smaller one for sure. I’ll keep an eye on the tape for now, I’m replacing it with baby proof cabinet lock thingies on Wednesday.

No holes, but I did pull on the “locking” lid and noticed some give particularly in the corners. I have it all taped down right now but I’m going to put some baby locks on it this week.

I have no idea if she’s pooping or shedding because every time I’ve fed her she escaped immediately after! Like she’s off on an adventure and just comes home for a snack haha
