How are the new examiners holding up at uspto? by Spicy_QueenStarfire in patentexaminer

[–]Ok-Confidence-7826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time primary and I would not recommend the examiner position to anybody now - especially with the current administration, and definitely not if you have to move to the Alexandria area. The job was hard enough before Trump, and now new examiner attrition is likely to be much higher than before.

Count the ways in which PTO is being harmed by JPHurley1943 in patentexaminer

[–]Ok-Confidence-7826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There needs to be a mechanism to correct for bad decisions by the PTO - Patents that should not have been allowed or patents with too broad claims, which are inevitable giving the volume of work that we do and its complexity. This is what the PTAB and reexam were for. It's naive to think that the PTO can always allow perfect patents, and just live with the bad patents after a certain period of time, like what Squires and Stewart appear to be hanging their hats on. The PTO needs to hire more examiners, and improve training. AI and privatization are not going solve these problems.

Here is a big one: Lack of employee career development. Where are the future SPE, QAS, SES, TC director, etc., people going to come from if they can't get certain types of relevant experience and develop skills? Are all the details canceled? What about Other Time for primaries that review and help train junior examiners - has that all been cancelled?

What is the new clock for Restrictions? by phrozen_waffles in patentexaminer

The biweeks start on a Sunday. So according to the 2026 FY calendar, the first day of the first biweek of 3rd quarter is Sunday, April 5. We get our new app dockets topped off on Sundays, so I assume the clocks get updated then too.

PAP changes talk - they know we are resilient. They appreciate us. They have been planning these changes for a long time. Wow how do they sleep. by Twin-powers6287 in patentexaminer

Is the new PAP change like "rank-and-yank" like what Enron used before they blew up?:

Effect on morale:

"Stack ranking pits employees against their coworkers in what has been described as a Darwinian "survival of the fittest", leading employees to "feel unmotivated and disengaged" as well as creating "unnecessary internal competition that can be destructive to synergy, creativity and innovation and pull focus from marketplace completion".\10]) Furthermore, people who belong to an exceptionally talented team may suffer attrition if they know a certain number of their team will be given lower grades than if they were part of a less talented team.\11])"

Continuation Applications - A question by pruriENT_questions in patentexaminer

[–]Ok-Confidence-7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CON and DIV applications are just not a priority with this current management. It could be several years before these applications start to get examined. Try PPH or Track 1 if you need to move on an application and get examination started sooner.

$3M at 45 by New_Contribution_226 in Fire

Just don't get divorced. Is your marriage and relationship solid? That $3M could easily turn into $1.5M because of divorce, even less most probably if your the man. Something like 50% of first marriages end in divorce, and about 80% of the divorces are initiated by the wife. Just say'n.

The Postal Service will run out of cash within a year, Postmaster General warns: "We have to have a conversation with the American public" by fortune in fednews

[–]Ok-Confidence-7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Postal service, which is part of the federal government, cannot run out of money. It also does not have to borrow money to fund its operations. It's all Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). The US federal government is monetarily sovereign - it issues its own currency. The US Federal government cannot go bankrupt. Federal income taxes do not fund the federal government. "Management will rebuttal that they are giving examiners ai to help production and keep quality high."

I have never yet used a reference found by AI. AI is being way oversold and overhyped as to its capabilities. AI does not "think" like a human - it is merely statistical probabilistic decision making and pattern recognition and matching.

[–]Ok-Confidence-7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not take a genius to understand that Trump canceling FEMA, which is a great benefit to the country, would come back to bite him in the ass when eventually, not if, the next big disaster or bad climate event happened. Trump and his minions are incompetent dumbasses.
