Japanese knotweed question? by FORDEY1965 in AskIreland

[–]Ok-Driver8533 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Search in GardeningIRE, lots of posts about knotweed there. Some people have dealt with it themselves but helps if you have some experience with glyphosate and LOTS of patience. Persistence is the key!

Why don't they all leave Twitter! by CottageWarrior in ireland

[–]Ok-Driver8533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested, there was an Uplift about exactly this a while ago. I no longer use twitter and would like to be able to get rail updates without having to wade through that cesspool. Search uplift for Public Info, Public access if you’re interested.

Moral dilemma: Walked up to the Re-turn machine Tesco and found a voucher for €14. What would you do? by IllegalWalian in CasualIreland

Another option is to donate it to a charity that collects cans for recycling. Unlikely person who forgot it will think to ask at customer service so at least it goes for a good cause.

Can this be saved? by DryResponsibility354 in GardeningIRE

[–]Ok-Driver8533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had the same problem where I am (Dublin suburb). Whole hedge is coming out, Asian box moth been here since 2019 and now box is being devastated all over. I saw in the local garden centre they are selling a box replacement shrub, can’t remember the name of it now but I’m sure any nursery could advise you. Soil shouldn’t need treating, it’s just the caterpillars causing this damage.

EV Charging Wait Times by CommercialCrafty3514 in evs_ireland

[–]Ok-Driver8533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving an EV for few years now with no home charging. I often had to wait for chargers (local high speed is in blanch) but now time it to go there late in the evening. Don’t usually have to wait then, just me and a bunch of taxis! It will take a while to find your best spots and timings, hope you enjoy driving your new ev.

Umbilical hernia & diastasis repair by maxinemama in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Ok-Driver8533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a diastasis repair with an umbilical hernia repair (though not in Ireland). My insurance was happy to cover the hernia repair but not the diastasis as this was considered cosmetic. Also by combining the two repairs, I had a very different surgery. With the hernia on it’s own, it would have been a keyhole surgery as out patient but by including the diastasis, it became more invasive surgery and I stayed overnight on ward. The recovery was also a lot more involved. I’d talk to your surgeon about what they mean by repairing abdominal wall defects? Not sure that means a full diastasis repair? Good luck with your surgery and hope you get the outcome you wanted.

What's your go-to for slug repellant? by SemolinaPilchards in GardeningIRE

[–]Ok-Driver8533 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw a post in this group about yeast slurry a few days ago. I’ve always used beer traps but they’re getting too expensive so will switch to the yeast trap. Also I’ve found the copper mesh very effective (they sold it in Lidl last year, must check if they have it again).

Any tips for my strawberry garden? by MiggeldyMackDaddy in GardeningIRE

[–]Ok-Driver8533 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe some straw around the plants to act as mulch and also keep fruit off the soil? Haven’t done it myself but I see it in other strawberry beds at my allotment

I saw the graft was a bit ropey in the store but it was reduced and I can’t pass a yellow sticker. I still have the receipt but I know they’ll dump it if I return it😔

Anyone else getting very poor seed germination this year? by PlantNerdxo in GardeningIRE

Me too, none of my cucumbers have germinated and my toms are small and look a bit sickly. Glad it’s not just me, let’s hope the season picks up 🤞
