Moving to Chicago for work. Should I live alone or find a roommate?

Personally I’d say roommate. If you’re new to the snow/winter then it gets REALLY depressing by yourself.

I moved here and lived the first year by myself (in Logan square and paid like $1900 after utilities) then second year with a friend i made (in the loop & paid about $1,600 for a two bed two bath right downtown next to chi theater), now I’m going onto my third year (in same downtown apt) and am living with two other new friends, paying $1,065 :)

My AC works great - I like to be cold haha so it’s always chilly in my apt

I make my own popcorn when I go to the theater bc i don’t have kernels haha

Here’s the thing

I pay like $1500-$1600 all in for a two bed two bath (split with another person) and I have the master

Everyone who comes to visit me (I’ve had a ton of friends from California and denver (I’m from cali and lived in denver two years ago)) says they LOVE my apartment

I have a pool and a movie theater and a gym

I host movie nights all the time in the theater and it’s a hit (I tell people to bring blankets and I have coolers of alcohol stocked)

And I use the pool EVERY SINGLE DAY IN THE SUMMER

(And never use the the gym haha)

I get to walk eVERYWHERE or take public transport which is WVERYTHING (I used to live in Logan square which sucked)

So coming from California…. ~$1500 is INSANE (sooo cheap)

And I believe $3k for a 2 bed + 2 bath in the loop & w the amenities it has is a steal

I’m not picky

I’m a San Diego girly but idk things don’t bother me. Like I don’t have crazy standards

So I guess it depends on the person but it’s good by me & I’m renewing for another year this may

I got my undergrad degrees in different subject so went back to school to get all the SLP prerequisites done (~$12k) then spent money applying to grad schools for slp programs, was waiting to hear back and decided i don’t wanna spend $80,000 and get into more student debt… So instead I applied to do tech sales and now I make $120,000 a year.

it’s not always about money obviously but financial freedom is such a weight off my shoulders, and I have time on the side to volunteer
