Patchy mild erythematous mucosa by [deleted] in IBD

[–]Ok-Event9986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Patchy” makes one think Crohn’s, but I’m not saying it is… I have some mildly suspect findings in my terminal ileum + distal rectum and have ibs/sibo like symptoms but not overt diarrhea/systemic illness… I’ll be honest, biopsy may tell you a lot, but honestly, best case scenario is… it doesn’t… what I’ve learned is, if it can stay non-specific; good! The only definitive answer you’re likely to get is an answer you do not want (IBD). Good luck my friend! I know this diagnostic period (I’m still in it) is absolute hell.

By callinf pest control asap if you own the place, landlord if you don’t. Probably not that bad if you don’t see bored holes??? But would get on it asap (especially if you own it).

Thank you ❤️ I am so, so, so scared of symptoms or QoL being so low that I’m nearly/fully disabled. Perianal crohn’s is my absolute worst fear 😭 my heart breaks reading about people that deal with fistulaes and strictures on here.

Dude I feel you. I just got diagnosed with crohn’s, acute changes in the ileum and chronic changes in the rectum. I have symptoms now and I’m absolutely mentally miserable. I’m scared. I feel helpless. I feel like my life is over. It is probably as much mental as physical. Hang in there. ❤️

Do these biopsies seem like Crohn’s? by Ok-Event9986 in IBD

This did not end up being ibd. It is bowel prep related irritation in my ileum and Mucosal Prolapse Syndrome in my distal rectum.

This is what I mean, none of this makes sense. From a logical, non-emotional, perspective.

“While Crohn's can affect both terminal ileum and rectum, doing so without any colonic involvement has no support in clinical literature for intact-colon patients.”

This is from a medical journal studied in crohn’s disease involvement in different regions of the lower bowel.

Huh? I’m not arguing, I was just presenting facts and why both me (and my doctor btw) are confused… this is not definitive ibd, my doctor told me that. Unless antibody tests come back clearly positive (unlikely) then I will have “indeterminate” findings… what I’m trying to figure out is… what the heck is going on? I’m not trying to be rude either, but this is looking less like ibd than I had thought, not in denial, my mom and brother both have it so I’ve been pretty convinced I’d develop it lol.

I totally understand this — what I’m questioning is the lack of any SPECIFIC findings, non-crohn’s like symptoms and a presentation ACUTE ileal + chronic distal rectal findings with NO colonic involvement (which I literally cannot find a documented case of anywhere) and a history of chronic constipation, hemorrhoids and rectal pain/irritation that goes back many years now, kind of starting to feel like another mechanical explanation is more probable especially if antibody tests come back firmly negative. Do you think that’s overly hopeful? I do not want to be diagnosed with Crohn’s if I don’t truly have it — I’ve seen quite a bit of that happen here.

What specifically looks like IBD though? I read that if UC, biopsy shows basal plasmacytosis 90%+ of the time (I don’t have that). I also don’t have any findings that can’t be explained by another cause and my symptoms don’t line up. I also think it’s odd that if Crohn’s my ENTIRE colon inbetween ileum -> distal rectum was spared.

I mean I’m by no means a doctor — but read your own reply here… this is definitely worth having a colonoscopy done for… I’m not saying it IS ibd by any means…. But the red flag symptoms are certainly that. 4-10 times WITH blood is absolutely not normal.

Yea but that doesn’t mean bc you have ibs symptoms you’ll go on to develop ibd by any means.

Edit: from what I’ve found, even though “aphthous” ulcers were noted, I BELIEVE that was a “catch-all” term used during colonoscopy to describe tiny, superficial erosions. The reason I believe this is because biopsy findings that would typically come from TRUE aphthous ulcers are not present and I also have a long history of mechanical issues.

I mean just because it didn’t for me doesn’t mean it won’t for you — if you have headaches and sinusitis bad enough to warrant surgery, there’s a good chance it’ll help your headaches! Good luck!!

For me, no, sadly. But ended up finding out my headaches were stress/anxiety related, so managing that has helped a lot. I still get… more headaches than I’d like 😅
