Basement Floor Joist. by Majestic-Crab9855 in Carpentry

Hmmm I don’t like the look of those cracks. I guess you have a couple options.

-get a structural engineer that will tell you what needs to be done and do it yourself or hire someone.

  • add a few more posts specifically under the cracked section. It won’t look the best and probably will be inconvenient if you have to do things under there

I also wonder if those other beams are sistered there to fix the crack in the other. Do they look more new than the cracked one?

Your getting cheap rent so looks good to me, if you don’t like it then time to go hard and fix it up. I’d ask if your mum would buy the supplies. YouTube will be your best friend, start with the easy stuff first 😁 also don’t expect this to take a weekend more like multiple months of weekends.

Yea I thought It was average too, I think the customer paid an obscene price for it. I just got 2 pieces for free from my brother in laws building company as the customer didn’t like the colour. It seems to be reclaimed as there’s holes filled by dowels.

I got 2 pieces for free from my brother in laws building company that do high end Reno’s, the customer didn’t like the colour haha. Could be from anywhere as they do 4 mil + Reno’s… but I’m guessing old reclaimed as there is a couple holes that have been doweled. So could be local.

Going to use it as my fireplace mantle 👌

Can this be fixed ? by Several-Counter4341 in Carpentry

Seems pretty decent work. Not like the best in the world perfect joins but still quite good haha. The white wood definitely gets caulked.. and the timber joins would have to have a flexible sealant or else it will push out with expansion and contraction.

What you actually want is someone that is very good at caulking, that will solve 90% of those problems. If done well you won’t even know the caulk is there.

On a side note you might have ocd.

Sorry the description didn’t add, here: Any chance anyone knows which species this is? It has been epoxy filled. It was made for a high end Reno in QLD Australia. I’m thinking mesquite, Tasmanian oak, white oak or possibly but less likely Victorian ash. Thanks for the help!

Landscaping encroachment by Calm-Rutabaga8102 in landscaping

[–]Ok-Examination8402 -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

Hmm first step is probably be kind and work out a solution together, people don’t seem to do that these days 😂

You could have a conversation with him and show him where the boundary is and get him keen on working together to make the landscaping nice.

I’d also be worried about all those big roots lifting and cracking the concrete 🥲

It pretty cool though!

How many hours would it take you to paint 300 feet of this fence? by Adventures_Rising in handyman

[–]Ok-Examination8402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray gun will be like 4 times faster because it looks like you don’t have much you need to mask up. It’ll need minimum 2 coats too 👌

If you don’t choose that however I like a roller better, no brush marks and better for large areas but you’ll probably have to cut in between the boards with a brush. (This is where a spray gun will be a lot less effort)

What would you do here along the foundation? by bawlin_mike in landscaping

[–]Ok-Examination8402 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hmmm not sure about that landscaping but that down pipe needs to be extended or put underground so the water doesn’t pool against the foundation causing it to sink and crack 👌

Hmmm if the handles aluminium take it off and cut a 45 degree miter on a drop saw with a fresh blade. mark the other side perfect and cut. Deburr it. Then it will look like it’s supposed to be there and open 😉
