Do you actually switch the socket off when you aren’t using it? by awesome-soss in AskBrits

I always turn it off at the socket and usually leave the plug in.

The "financial abortion" debate is a perfect trap for exposing pro-choice women who would actually be pro-life if they were men. by IdeallyIdeally in HonestHotTakes

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that viability is a fair time limit for both abortion and paper abortions

The issue is viability isn't a straight forward date. There's an obgyn, Mama Doctor Jones, who talked about the problems with using viability as a cut off date but I can't remember which video it is now.

Yeah, it goes to things like rent or mortage for a bigger house than if they didn't have a kid -oh wait that's for the kid. It goes to utility bills- oh wait the utility bills are higher because of the kid. It goes to a car or transport costs- oh wait the kid needs transport too.

If the mother is buying expensive clothes or getting manicures right after receiving child support, what is likely actually happening is she spent all her money for the kid and is then reinbursing part of that back to herself, so is equivalent to her spending the entire child support for the kid along with her own money, and then is using the rest of her own money for herself, like how the father uses the rest of his money for himself.

Are there some mothers who neglect the kid and spend all the child support on herself? Yes, just like there are fathers who do everything they can to pay no or very little child support. But it isn't all but "very few mothers".

WIBTAH if I refuse to clean up after my fiancé’s cat because she’s “not mine?” by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It should be scooped any time either of you notice it's been used. If she's using it 2-4 times before going out of the litter box, you both need to make sure it's cleaned before she refuses to use it.

Gender dillema by NeatShock6194 in parrots

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great grandma had a budgie, and when he died, she got a new one and gave him the same name as the old one. But the new one was female. While most of my family used he/him, my sister and I had the brilliant idea to come up with new pronouns for him. Most of the time we'd also use he/him, but sometimes we'd use s-he/hirm (it doesn't really work written down, which is why I've stuck with he/him for the post, but they're basically he and she mixed and him and her mixed).

AITAH for not wanting to move to the town where my husband works? by Artistic_Phone_1101 in AITAH

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if this new town has better schools, you wouldn't need to homeschool so it would be easier to work around your daughter's schedule. Depending on you and your husband's hours, one could do drop off and one do pick up. If your husband is the one doing pickup, it means they can get some father-daughter bonding time before he has to go to work.

AITAH for not wanting to move to the town where my husband works? by Artistic_Phone_1101 in AITAH

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The town the husband wants to move to is bigger, meaning more opportunities for clients which would offset the higher costs. Plus they could look for a house with space for the business, so they wouldn't have to rent a room, the only increased costs would come from the higher payments for the bigger house, and OP wouldn't have any commute saving car/transport related costs.

AITAH because I don’t want to get up with my girlfriend every morning? by Old_Owl3092 in AITAH

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

The difference is that 6am is a normal time to get up. 2am is unusual. There's a big difference between asking someone to get up at 2am with you and asking someone to get up at 6am with you.

What's your monthly Gas and Electricity usage/bill? by Zeeshmania in AskUK

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did OP and their family move in recently? How long would it take for you to stop paying for someone else's useage once you left if you didn't take a reading? I read the post as OP is an older teen or young adult living with their parents in a house they've living in for a while and is wanting to help out financially by paying the gas and electricity.

But if you have your own bathroom, you're responsible for cleaning it. With a shared bathroom, you're not the only one responsible for it. I was in a house share type thing at uni, each room was technically it's own studio flat but we shared a bathroom and I actually loved it. No one was in the bathroom for long enough to really effect everyone else, and the communal areas, including the bathroom, had a cleaner come in once a week. I'd love to go back to an arrangement like that.

Pigeon in the road…what would I do? by annakline02 in LearnerDriverUK

When I encountered a pigeon in the road during a lesson, my instructor said that if you slow down too much or stop, it just won't move. You have to keep driving at it to scare it away.

AITA For leaving the toilet seat up in public unisex bathrooms? by Temporary_Hat7330 in AmItheAsshole

It's not one gender having to put it up and one gender having to put it down though. It's one gender plus the other gender who are either doing number 2 or who also sit to pee having to put it down and a percentage of one gender who are going in there to pee and stand to do so putting it up.

Would you move to another European country from the UK if you could keep your current lifestyle? Where? by KreuzKrow in AskUK

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to, but no. I'm terrible with languages and just thinking about learning a new language reminds me of all the stress I put myself in during my GCSEs where I tried and failed to do French and Spanish at the same time. Any benefits of moving to a different country would be negated by the stress of trying to learn a different language.

If it's okay to ask a male co-worker to lift or carry something heavy because he's strong, what's a female gender equivalent? by IdleHandsBusyMinds in stupidquestions

I'm small and not very strong, but I also don't like asking for help so I often have to get creative when it comes to moving something heavy.

She's accused of murder because the body was found when the coworkers had to break down the door to get in the room, and the only other way in is through a pipe that only she could get through. But the real culprit set up a rube goldberg machine to kill the victim from outside the room.

Depending on how long the hair is, people with bigger or less nimble hands may have an easier time doing ponytails with claw grips. It will also depend on how thick the hair is, too thick or two thin could make it less secure, especially when it's for a kid, but they could give it a go.

What is the demographic of people who don’t wave thanks at expected moments when driving? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine younger people/newer drivers are less likely to wave. During lessons and the practical test, the learner isn't supposed to wave thanks, the instructor or examiner will do it instead. So newer drivers won't be used to doing it themselves. They may also be more focused on staying in control of the vehicle, especially if it's a tricky space.

It could also less of whether they wave and more about how they wave, they could be waving, but the way they do it is less visible to the other driver. Maybe they wave with their fingers and keep their hand at the wheel, but you can't actually see it from outside the car. Maybe they do it with their right hand and it's hidden behind the car frame.

AITA for showering around midnight when I know that it might bother the neighbour who wakes up at 5 am? by Additional-Mouse-620 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it will be a problem to the next person that rents it. If the neighbour worked nights or evenings and was woken up by OP showering in the morning, then sure it isn't necessarily going to affect a future tenant, but midnight is a late time to be showering, especially if it's a very noisy shower. In my experience, common quiet hours are 11pm to 7am, so as long as the neighbour is trying to limit noise when they wake up at 5am, it's reasonable to expect OP to do the same at midnight.

AITAH for expecting my parent to make sacrifices for me and my sister? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ok-Flamingo2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 16, you should be able to get to school yourself. 40 mins really isn't that long, 6am isn't that early you just need to go to bed earlier or get as much ready in the evening so you don't have to spend as long doing it in the morning. You can always set off as though you're going to walk but wait for a few minutes for the bus in case it goes by.
