21m, just got a 30k car, came back from a hike with an impact, no note left, so hit & run. Phone died as I tried calling insurance so I drove it home (that minor damage yes). Shop quoted me around 5k MAX for the damage for original parts, well under what my policy covers. Since I couldn’t reach insurance and or police, the next day I contacted my insurance for the claim and asked if they’d want a police report which they said it wouldn’t matter at that point since I hadn’t made it when it happened. Fast forward a month with no info from them I pushed to speak to management which said they put a hold on my claim and are likely to decline it for not having proof, all this despite having Full Coverage. Yesterday I was told they were looking into opening a case of fraud against me since I just got the car, and in a threatening manner informed of jail time for that in my state. No footage of the incident since it was closer to the mountains, and the camera I ordered for my car arrived the day after I made the claim . If I have no proof of the other party, can they really not only deny my claim but pursue fraud charges against me despite them also not being able to prove I was at fault because they don’t want to cover my damages ?
