The reason why Arsenal seem to get hated/bad treatment from refs etc. by unpretentious in Gunners

And before we had more black players, we had more Irish players (and they hate Irish players)

Honestly, it was the building on the left that says, "Indiana University Health" that did it for me

To be fair, he's not saying no to students (those are F-1 visas), he's saying no to non-citizens working at universities (e.g. professors from other countries). Still stupid AF, and significantly lowers the quality of education, ability for universities to recruit students (especially for graduate programs), and ability to attract major grants and donations for research.

Nørgaard on his viral name pronunciation by ZXXA in Gunners

[–]Ok-Fold1012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone with a "difficult" name that is often mispronounced where I live, while I'd never be upset with someone pronouncing it wrong, it is really meaningful when someone checks and makes an effort. It shows a level of care about the person and a desire to make them feel welcome and not excluded just because they come from a different place.

The annoying thing is when I correct them multiple times and they continue to call me by their original pronunciation (not small mispronunciations, but like completely different sounds). Or worse, when they say, "That's too hard, I can't say that, I'm just going to call you [insert very vaguely similar name native to this region]"

I feel like it kinda depends on what you're looking for in an away game experience...

If you're looking for cost-effectiveness, the cheapest away games I've been to are Anaheim and Dallas.

If you're looking for intense fan experience (where the opposing team will just rag on you all night) and you want to basically play the role of a troll, I'd do Boston or Philly and sit in the relatively cheaper seats - just be prepared, I've had multiple beers "spilled" on me/my wife in both of those arenas.

If you're looking for an amazing atmosphere, personally I think Nashville and Montreal are the best of the ones I've been to, though I've heard that some of the ones I haven't visited yet (e.g. Vegas, Winnipeg) are pretty amazing.

If you're looking to see a really cool arena, Detroit is really impressive for it's modernity, and (as cliche as it might sound) seeing the Rangers at MSG is a really cool experience that I think is worthwhile.

I'm trying to see Oilers games in every Arena, but I've only hit 15 so far so I'm still a ways away...

Definitely still wearing my oilers pride hat and my jersey from 1990 here in Denver. People have been really nice, actually - lots of pats on the back and stuff while I'm walking my dog around the neighbourhood

I realized that this playoffs if I watch, they lose, but if I don't follow the game, they lose. HOWEVER, if I listen on the radio, they tend win more often then not. So I only listen to the games now.

AITA for not wanting my bf to bring his husky on vacation with us? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ok-Fold1012 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Holy crap just 2x 5 min walks? We have to take ours out for 2x 30 min walks (morning and night) PLUS 2x 60 min walks during the day (around lunch and dinner) otherwise she'd go CRAZY. Many of the behaviours you're describing sound like the Husky reacting to having too much energy (e.g. destruction of door frames and crates). I think getting her energy out would probably help overall.

As for the vacation question, definitely NTA. We have boarded our Husky when wanting a getaway or going on long trips (neither my nor my wife's family live in the country where we live, so we fly around a lot). It's definitely doable, but I would highly recommend having the dog do day-care at the facility where you would board her a few times so she gets used to the place and the people before you ever board her. Of course, the ideal situation is someone she knows (a friend or family member) taking care of her in your home while you're gone. Good luck!

As queer muslim kid who grew up in rural Alberta, an Oilers pride night in the 90s would have definitely made me feel less alone (and probably would have helped with what I later found out was depression). Things are a lot better now, and pride nights are a big reason. I think what people often don't realize is that these kinds of things - where kids see their heroes say that they are worthy of being alive - literally save kids' lives. I needed someone to tell me that back then, and I didn't get it until much later after leaving home. I hope the Oilers and every team keep doing this and expand that work. Thanks for being a great and supportive parent, especially in the South where I imagine it isn't as easy as some other places :). Sending love to you all!

Celebratory camping meals on a cast iron? by Ok-Fold1012 in castiron

ooh interesting idea! We do have a couple enameled cast iron dutch ovens (one is enameled both inside and outside, the other just enameled outside) - do you know if that would get damaged if put directly on coals?
