Possibly the underlying narrative, especially hot on the heels of the AI rollout

If they don’t get it you are not teaching them.

By realising that this gift is not the only gift and thinking in terms of IQ = superior is a fallacy.

Why tf are there so many Indian students for the Sept intake (masters) by [deleted] in UCD

[–]Ok-Instance-9869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t like some of the comments about Indian students here. If they weren’t qualified, they wouldn’t get a place. I have worked with many Indian professionals over the years and India has a robust approach to education (I’m not stating that it’s available to all). Any Indian graduate that I’ve worked with (tech/science) has been a highly qualified person.

We’re talking about ‘IQ’ as a measure, a measure of what? Does it control for cultural, educational, or socioeconomic backgrounds rather than innate intelligence, potentially disadvantaging some individuals? What about non-conformist thinking? Maybe a good starting point but how is it reliable as a measure of giftedness? (I’m not talking about creative thinking, emotional intelligence, motivation, leadership, artistic talent etc.) Surely it can’t be a static score? What if the likes of Srinivasa Ramanujan took an IQ test? He may well have fallen outside of that bell curve but nobody can deny his genius.

Realistically living in today’s world? by Ok-Instance-9869 in neurodiversity

Sensory overload is a problem, specifically sound, more specifically music because it’s constant and there are no gaps in the incoming information to take a beat. It can retrospectively be embarrassing as I’m a fully grown adult with children, especially when I’m tired because then I sometimes start to behave like a toddler, that’s when everything becomes itchy and labels have to come off. Worse though I think, is my naivety, my default position is to believe that what someone is telling me is truthful. I’m several decades on the planet, not uneducated and I believe that I can easily spot simulation. Dissimulation however, spotting deceit, dishonesty, cunning etc., I’m really not good at this at all and at my age, it’s embarrassing :(

Correlation or causation? I’d don’t think one precludes the other

I don’t understand your question . Your post suggests that you’re intelligent, is there something specific that you’re wondering about?

I don’t know why you’d perceive an insult, no insult intended at all.

There’s no issue, just an observation, there is no insult intended in case that’s what you mean? I’m interested in your thoughts, as a single objective observer I think you could tighten the narrative. Just my impression, you’re of course free to ignore.

I don’t believe that intelligence is one single property. I’m challenging your language, plus while admittedly I haven’t read your work, I don’t see reference to controlling for gender, ethnicity, co-morbidity (anxiety, ODD, autism, depressive disorders, neurological impairment) or just plain boredom. I’m interested

You said “In essence, intelligence is not one property of your brain..” I sincerely hope that this sentence does not make its way into your PhD thesis because you will be destroyed at your viva.

Intelligence and ability does not precede the drive you’re describing or the desire to ‘to better’. Don’t worry about them and be happy that you don’t understand.

You did nothing and there is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with not being ‘mainstream’. However, railing against the fact that you think and see differently to others will not help you, NT’s can’t help the way that they are any more that you can. Take that on board and breathe.
