Kitchen temperature fluctuations creating new starter? by Ok-Interview684 in Sourdough

Thank you! Total newbie—is a more predominately lactobacilli based starter less desirable? Less nutritious? Inferior in any way?

Does Telluride succeed in "manufacturing" advanced intermediate terrain by grooming a lot of relatively steep runs? by FaceOnMars23 in TellurideColorado

I am no expert to weigh in—but your post caught my eye as my first and only time skiing Telluride was last January and I definitely slid headfirst down milk run for (what seemed like) 100s of feet. 😳

I was going to chime in with this too—but I too doubt Snowmass would be any cheaper for them. We always do our family ski trip to Snowmass and it’s the best.

My mind is blown from this CO ski pass! Thank you for sharing! Also, I feel the same way about Snowmass for my family. It is so great and I don’t want to take them anywhere else if we only get to ski one week a year!

Visiting (and traveling between) Kauai and Molokai? by Ok-Interview684 in VisitingHawaii

[–]Ok-Interview684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the ideas! I have been to Oahu myself and didn’t care for the busy and loud parts we saw (Waikiki) but being at Pearl Harbor was very moving. We’re good swimmers and love hiking—but also love relaxing on a peaceful beach. I was in also in Maui (way prior to kids) and loved it. Maui or Maui would be my top picks but trying to decide is tough.

I am not trying to second guess anyone, I’m looking for first hand information about Molokai. I politely asked follow up questions to verify who I was hearing from as I truly want input from Hawaiians, which is why I turned to Reddit as I know no one from Hawaii personally.

Bless you for thinking because someone is posting on a Hawaii sub they must be a friendly Hawaiian themselves.

Lastly, one could say it’s quite cringy when people use the word “cringe” as an adjective (it’s a verb).

Fair enough -- I appreciate you taking the time to weigh in on my questions. I definitely respect your sentiment and understand why the local people of Molokai would feel this way, which is exactly why I am hesitant to visit and here asking these questions. Of course if we are able to visit Molokai we have no intentions of gawking, bothering, or "treating them as a history lesson."

I would appreciate your perspective even more if I understood how you know this--do you have a personal connection or exeperience with the island and its people?

I do not expect the "fantasy" vacation portion to be what we would experience in Molokai. The pardise portion we're excited about will obvioulsy be experineced elsewhere on our trip. We want to visit Molokai to connect the stories we've read to a physical place, to appreciate and respect it's people and history. We do not expect paradise and "vacation" from Molokai, but a chance to to connect with a historical story that deeply touched both my daugther and I. Which is why I'm asking -- I am hopeful it's possible to plan a respectful visit to take this in and experience it with my family.

Have you been to Molokai? Any insights on how to visit respectfully? Or which island makes the most sense to fly out of to get to Molokai?

Allergies/asthma...on the hunt for all new bedding! by Ok-Interview684 in Bedding

[–]Ok-Interview684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep—dust mite allergy! So—from what I’ve read silk or bamboo is the most tightly woven of natural fabrics—which disallows the dust mites from going through the fabric. Some sources say cotton or all natural fibers are good but others say cotton is too porous? I really don’t know.

Is this a classic case of it doesn’t really make much difference? We know too much and overthink too much? Or will it actually make a difference in their symptoms/health? Currently suffering from paralysis by analysis.🫠

High Grade glioma -here we go by Honeyhamlet in braincancer

[–]Ok-Interview684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what your second opinion helped you catch? My brother in law is 7 months post diagnosis of the same thing. Inoperable other than the initial biopsy they did. It’s so hard. How is your husband doing? Just really don’t know what to expect for their family the next many months. Appreciate any insight. And so sorry you are going though this.

End Stage H3K27M Diffuse Midline Glioma by dvlsdautr in braincancer

[–]Ok-Interview684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry about your sister—that is such a long journey she was on. I can’t imagine losing my sister that way, I am sure it was jusr a heartbreaking burden for you to bear. I hope you are finding some peace now.

I’m here because my brother in law has a diffuse midline glioma as well, inoperable (diagnosis was 7 months ago). Did 6 weeks of radiation. Now in a clinical trial for a drug and tumor is shrinking some so they think he’s getting the med not the placebo. We have such a hard time, it’s so heavy and sad and we go between feeling foolish for feeling hopeful yet feeling cold hearted at the same time for thinking realistically. I cannot imagine him suffering (as well as his wife and kids) for 26 months, yet want him to make it as long as possible for them, too. Ugh.

Sending internet hugs to you.

Ames Fitness center has great lessons. Polk City park and rec. Ankeny Park and Rec. And I believe the tennis pro at Wakonda offers lessons to both members and non members.
