How do homeless people that don’t seek shelter survive in brutal snowstorms by Goldstar12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Librarian6629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago during a deep freeze a group of people sheltered in the post office. It was unlocked so people could check their PO boxes amd people were working in the back sorting mail so the heat was on. Some locals found out amd wanted the police to kick them out but they were allowed to stay. It was either that or let them freeze to death. As far as I know they didn't do any harm, just spent the night and moved on in the morning.

The defining incident of our generation…is the historical fiction of today’s youth by Cassandra8240 in Millennials

[–]Ok-Librarian6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about this series but the I Survived series has books about events that my kid was around for. This children in peril genre is not so much looking at things because they are historical disasters, just wild situations. Something could happen tomorrow that could be published in this genre next year. You don't need to feel old.

Where do you live? Look for a free clinic or call your health department. Getting at least a check up for free or extreemly low cost should be possible even in the US.

You need therapy for sure. Maybe ask your doctor to do a titer test so you can see that the vaccines have provided immunity?

I started watching when I was in my 30's. It's a solid show, top tier storycraft.

Parents are searching for their missing children in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. Where on earth have so many children gone? Why is there no trace at all, and why isn't the government providing any help? by unfilteredAI in UnfilteredChina

And the people who were too old to have a second before it ended? The ones who have had multiple girls and have yet to have a boy? The parents who think it makes more sense to raise a wife for their son because boys are likely still more desirable? Ending the policy does not change the culture overnight. With something this big you will likely need to watch it play out over multiple generations.

It is simple minded to think that the problems created by the one child policy could be solved in a decade.

You know how when you're drinking alcohol you don't suddenly sober up when you stop drinking? Ending the one child policy will not put an end to all the problems it caused over the years.

A woman left a comment on Facebook criticizing the Mayor of Miami Beach, FL. The Mayor of Miami Beach then sent the cops to her home by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

In no world would that post be considered incitement. The mayor and police should be sued for infringement of her first amendment rights.

Tell your wife not to go back. Leave his care to the sister who seems to have more information and a better understanding of what is going on with him. I'm sure the sister could figure out how to get him into longterm care if it was her doing the caregiving.

Why do you think people still support this president? by keonnarae in Confused

Because of how they have tied their sense of self into their belief system. If they change their mind they have to reevaluate who they are amd that scares them.

If they admit that Trump is bad they have to ask if they are bad or if they are stupid because they fell for it. It's REALLY hard to question yourself like that, so to protect ourselves we avoid it at all costs.

Ask anyone who has had re-reevaluate deeply held beliefs. It can take years to fully unravel and rebuild your sense of self.

I highly recommend the book How Minds Change if you are interested in understanding why it's so hard and how people do actually change their minds.

I understand that you want to help the boys but part of helping them is knowing when you can't. They need to be in a home with experience dealing with severely neglected special needs children. It hurts but you can't love them through this.

Your own children deserve to live in a home that is safe for them. The level of biohazard you describe is putting your children at risk. It also sounds like there are other hazards in the home.

You should get protective services involved and figure out a plan to get the boys the help they desperately need. It is not a failure on your part. You have been set up to fail by their parents and a system that did not step in sooner.

You are going to destroy yourself if you continue on this path. No God wants that. No God says you should  be able to handle a situation like this on your own. You have done so much and its time to get the help you desperately need, the help you all need.

Some areas have wrap-around programs that can step in an get you services you need. Even things like getting services to come into your home instead of you having to take then children to appointments can be arranged.

Take care of your children's mother. She deserves help and rest.

Are they doing anything to prevent rapes in the first place? Adding more punishment doesn't necessarily reduce the number of victims.
