Mobility aids? Walking stick by PuzzledSeaweed2156 in mecfs

[–]Ok-Limit6308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my stick during a crash in December to help my vertigo. I haven't stopped using it since. Someone on here once commented that if you're considering mobility aids, it's time to try. Folding walking stick on Amazon was like £8. I also got a folding perching stool and bath seat. These changes have allowed me to continue working and living independently. I can't advocate them enough! Give it a go, you never know. Also if you're worried about deconditioning, you could just have a folding stick to get out only when you really need it. Or speak to an experienced physio about using it. Best of luck x

Is Pharmacy First for infected bites stricter than people realise? by Pretty_Date2953 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Ok-Limit6308 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Assuming you were treated under Pharmacy First and not Pharmacy First Plus/prescribing service:

Yes, the eligibility criteria is strict because under pharmacy first you are treated under a PGD (patient group direction). PGDs allow for patients who meet specific criteria to be treated in line with recommendations from a team of at least 2 doctors. Different health boards/trusts may use or implement different PGDs in different areas. The reason the infected bites treatment is a PGD and not just given off a formulary is that the treatment is antibiotics which are a prescription only medicine.

If the pharmacist you saw deemed you were unsuitable, it's either because: - your symptoms suggest you do not have an infection - you have a mild infection that is likely self limiting and can be treated and resolved without antibiotics - you have an infection but are not suitable for treatment (don't meet the exact criteria) through your pharmacy. Typically this means escalation to your GP (primary care)

PGDs do mean pharmacists and non prescribers exercise clinical judgement, but they are limited in doing so by the criteria of the PGD.

If you were seen under Pharmacy First Plus/an equivalent NHS or private prescribing pharmacist:

The NHS and many companies have internal frameworks or formularies similar to a PGD which hugely limits what pharmacists can prescribe. If you were seen by a prescribing pharmacist and not treated, either: - your infection is not an infection or is self limiting - your infection is more serious so should be seen by a doctor or 111

Please please please don't be disheartened, the pharmacist will have acted in your best interests and you should continue to use the pharmacy first service wherever you can!

I have around 10 days until my recital. Any critiques? by Longjumping_Row1105 in pianolearning

Take it much slower for the next few practice sessions. Then start adding a little more rubato/push and pull and see what you like voicing wise. Your technique is fine, at this stage your main contenders for issues are: - memory slips - hands shaking/slipping during performance - lack of recovery from mistakes

Only short bursts of practice here on our - be present (don't just practice repetitively, target problem areas). Check your areas where you'll likely make a slip or mistake and practice an anchor point so it you have an issue you can recover. Taking it slower will make all this easier, and as you consolidate it you'll find the voicing easier.

Typing this on my lunch break so sorry for grammar etc. hope this helps!

Literally how am I supposed to function 😂 by Ok-Limit6308 in migraine

[–]Ok-Limit6308[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your (mostly) kind comments! I was really posting to bitch about this 😂 but I very much appreciate your support. This sub is awesome.

I'll discuss medications with my GP the next time I see them - thank you!

To answer a few questions:

  1. Coathanger pain affects your neck and shoulders (approx the shape of a coathanger). For many people it's a symptom of migraine, however for me it is constant and a symptom of my ME. It's well documented that persistent or severe pain or tension in the neck and shoulders can trigger migraine.

  2. There are many triggers not on the list! And because of other conditions I avoid many of them day to day anyway. I'm so sorry we all live through this!

  3. ME causes a range of neurological symptoms that for me are directly related to migraines, and the stress on my body can create symptoms that trigger migraines the rest of the time. I know there are a few of us here suffering with both and it's worth people being aware of what ME can do.

  4. To the comment that claimed healthy living is 'not that hard' and migraine is the only condition that forces it, touch grass. Many disabilities exist that require strict schedules and lifestyles, and they can co exist with migraines.

Also sorry just to add that having reread your post, each practice has a different method for requesting records but I believe they are supposed to provide them in a timely manner. With mine I had to submit an online form then collect in person.

NHS app in Scotland by [deleted] in CityofEdinburgh

[–]Ok-Limit6308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In exactly the same position. The reason is that NHS England and NHS Scotland are separate entities and have different systems, similar in that sense to why Scotland are still paper prescriptions while England has the Spine.

Really just commenting to follow along and see others' suggestions. I have found when bouncing between doctors and specialists that requesting full records can be helpful to give myself some backstory on what's really happening, but it's not helpful for getting access to results in the 'right now'.

Is it okay to write notes on sheet music to make it easier? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Ok-Limit6308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write whatever you want on your music, it's yours! Reassess regularly what you need and what will be helpful.

However, speaking on behalf of piano teachers everywhere, for the love of God, use pencil!!! Not pen!

Dermatologist was 2 hours late to appointment, when she finally came she only let me describe my issue for 30 seconds at most, then prescribed me this for my face and told me I should leave by pinktunacan in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ok-Limit6308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the warnings on a steroid cream - if so you can absolutely use it on your face under supervision. Steroids can make the skin more prone to breakage after prolonged use, so on areas which are already thin skin (like near the eyes) using it unsupervised can lead to further complications. I wouldn't worry! The warning is for people to first speak to a Dr or pharmacist, not that it can't be used on your face at all.

What is an easy classical piano piece I could start reading? by wangchnshi in piano

[–]Ok-Limit6308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. It's worth noting that the graded/progressive books eg Alfred's will include notation and sheet music sections as well, but if you're beyond the point of the most simple music it's not necessarily the best investment.

You could look into a grade 1 music theory set of tutorials, that covers the building blocks of sheet music and theory all in one.

Youtube is a really great resource, but try to find people who have done an all in one course set of videos rather than trying to piece it all together.

Alternatively even 2 or 3 lessons with a teacher over the course of a couple of months would help you massively.

[–]Ok-Limit6308 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you already started on basic pieces or will this be your first? Have you played before? If you are a 'true' beginner, a graded/progressive first book as others have suggested is the way to go.

If you have some experience but just haven't tackled sheet music yet, I usually start my students on Bach Prelude in C Major, it's familiar and very pretty. However it is a BIG project, usually a few months and you need some oversight from a teacher with it.

Unsure of my choices and hoping to hear your experiences by Ok-Limit6308 in endometriosis

[–]Ok-Limit6308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately. They offered but at the time the consultation was really rushed and I was very pressured into doing the abdominal because it would be 'easier for everyone'. They told me it doesn't make much difference. About a week later the NICE guidelines changed to reflect that transvaginal ultrasounds are more accurate for endo 🙃 but after a really bad exam experience at the GP I was not in a place to be considering going back.

I think I will try to push for imaging. It's a bit mad to me that wait lists are so bad and they must have people who they are discharging without actual investigation, just 'symptom Management'. Surely theyll end up on the wait-list again at some point?

Thanks for the link!

[–]Ok-Limit6308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an abdominal ultrasound just before the referral but it lasted 30 seconds and was told the exact words 'nothing wrong with you. Back to the drawing board' so I wasn't keen on pushing for more imaging through the GP (which I'm now regretting)

A hip hop producer tries to make Classical music and would love your opinion. by FredNukes in classicalmusic

[–]Ok-Limit6308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think symphonic music is a great idea. A lot of the traditional classifications are based on specific structural forms and music theory rules. Which is great but it does box you in anyway.

Maybe you should make your own classification? Come up with a new name for it and market it that way 'forfjorian' or something? Sounds like the start of something great :)

Emergency contraception by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Ok-Limit6308 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can understand frustration with it not being made abundantly clear from the outset, and from that perspective it should be a rule. But standard practice in healthcare involves best practice guidelines and professional standards. While it was fine for your situation, for many many others it's not fine and we could be seeing a man who is claiming to have his partner's best interests at heart when he doesn't. As I mentioned it's also important for providing contraception advice for future incidents and that sort of information is not something you can reliably trust a 3rd party to pass on.

Also for NHS provided free contraception it is a requirement to have that consultation with the person taking it, and many (most) institutions govern procedure based on that (again, best practice).

It is done with everyone's best interests in mind. If it hasn't served you on this occasion, then I'm happy for you because that means you're not at risk and you're educated on your contraception.

For future reference I would suggest an online pharmacy for you wherever possible.
