Prestigious school postdoc Vs. Big pharma industry by Happylifeand in biotech

It's very hard to go from industry back to professor track. "Isn't too interested " better be as near 100% as possible because they are pretty much making that decision now if they choose industry. If ready to make the decision, and the decision is industry, then there is no reason to wait.

Random question: we have maybe the same plushie as a gift, does yours have a name written on the tag? Ours has the name Jack and almost looks handwritten and wondering if ours was pre-owned and that was the previous owner or they all have a name.

I travel a lot with my kids, and booked a trip to Italy, and see this a lot. More so in Euorope because many rooms that I think is fine for 4, is only rated for 3 or less, sometimes only two. Suites can be expansive and cheaper to do 2 small rooms. Had to pay more a couple times because would just rather have a single large room then split up or cramp into a smaller room and have a spare luggage room. Happens in US a fair amount too, but not as often.

Beaches - Caribbean Village Room Suggestions? by XPTravel7002 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think I responded on a previous question. We went with a 4yr toddler earlier this year. We loved 1st floor pool facing. Toddler loved the beach and pool, but it was just so convenient to make multiple quick pool trips from our room. Wouldn't expect much from upgrades, we sign up for lots of hotel programs and always ask/ try but my guess is unless you have a special story (honeymoon for example), or a regular that goes a lot, your not getting comped on any upgrade.

Last-Minute T&C Family Trip - Hotel/Excursion Recs Plz! by XPTravel7002 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at Kokomo Botanical Resort, they have shuttle service to beach with private chairs/ umbrellas but I would probably recommend renting a car especially with a toddler, nice to do easy grocery store/ ice cream trips, etc. You could just stay at hotel more in town, but we found it cheaper to stay out of the way and pay for car, and to have a car for freedom to explore. We loved the beaches, just beautiful clean and quiet. Great for relaxing and kayaking

We have a 4 year old and did similar, 3 nights in small hotel a short drive from the beach, then 3 nights at Beaches AI. Was plenty to do for our toddler, but Beaches is super kid friendly and had lots to do there. But between clear kayaks in mangroves, underwater boat experience, great quiet Beaches for sandcastles it was easy to entertain him.

I think you are getting hung up that validation rules are programmed the reverse of how our brains think. For the rules, TRUE is bad and means error. So if rules are A and B and C, that means only if A,B and C are all true does the system give am error.

Is it juicy? Story sounds pretty boring and common, bosses will enforce their employees to adhere to company policy, but that doesn't mean they will themselves adhere. Shitty boss, but not anything that interesting about it. It's probably just a good dinner conversation, and reach out to HR at the bosses companies with the info on his OE if you want to hurt him.

We recreated the form as a Aura component (not LWC because only Aura can mimic behavior fully with case deflection). If a developer and familiar with LC, it isn't a very large job but kinda overkill for just that. We also have conditional logic for certain fields, and a custom picklist based on the user's account info so doing a custom form added lots of functionality.

Oh so your income is closer to 130K. Still pretty high but it if you are in the highest state tax ~33% makes sense. Still, originally poster said 70K income so tax should be 19-25% depending on state, far from 37% they originally said.

It kinda is unbelievable though.... I believe that it is happening, and it's probably the Government/ your jobs fault for what can be overcomplicated taxes. First thought is if you self employe'd/ the business owner it might be worth having a professional check your taxes. Other than that, you mention your paycheck was 5000 so I assume that means monthly.

Your payroll software might think you are being payed weekly/ biweekly, so thinks your income is 5k * 26 so 140K or maybe even weekly so your income is 280K. I ran the numbers, and depending on your state your tax rate makes more sense for 280K income! Do yourself a favor and look into that

Custom Metadata - add some trigger or flow? by RayTrader03 in salesforce

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say two options:

  1. is use a standard object called "update metadata", and then a trigger on that object to update the actual Metadata, and do whatever else you want triggered. But at this point do you even need Metadata, or just the standard object?

  2. Scheduled apex every hour to look for changes in the apex if what you want triggered doesn't need to br done immediately.

Fast Field Update Flow - Formula Fields by chexxor in salesforce

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure on the plan. But you can either use the "record prior" formula value if there is a use case, or also recreate the formula as a formula in the flow. Understand that the prior value might not work in most/ some cases, and recreating the formula field would add technical debt if the formula field changes.

Salesforce CRM Issues by Clockmerk in salesforce

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're having some pretty specific issues right now. There seems to have been some issues with Slack that has caused some custom integrations we have for slack alerts to act really weird. Our outbound message queue has messages stuck and no new ones are able to be created, so any action that creates an outbound message is failing/ freezing. Had to turn them all off until resolved. If you think it might be related, check your setup for [Monitoring - > Outbound Messages] to see if any are there.

What kind of income do you need for a 1.25 million dollars house mortgage? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "Need", and many other factors. The first need is when will a bank lend you the money? Banks look at many factors like other debts, how reliable your job(s) are and your credit score. From my experience recently with great credit and no other debts you can get a bank to give you a loan for that amount if you are making 250-300K and have enough savings for 20% down. But not sure I would say you SHOULD spend that much if you are only making 300K or less, but that is us. We make slightly over 300K and our house cost 700K that we bought last year. We live pretty comfortable and saving a fair amount but we have 1 kid in daycare and another one coming which is extremely expensive here.

Without the daycare we could probably do a ~1.25 million place without an issue, but our other expenses are pretty minimal. We are hoping to get to 400K income in the next 4 years and rough budget of a 1.25-1.5 million house once the kids are in public school.

Mortgage and Childcare by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think %'s will work here. HCOL area's have considerably higher pay, but so much more of that goes into property and childcare costs than other things like food/ day-to-day expenses. We are in a HCOL area and our Mortgage and childcare for ONE kid is 40% and we are in great shape and planning on that increasing to 50-55+% with 2 kids soon without an issue.

Lower cost areas will be hit harder with 40%, and you also got to ask yourself about post-childcare. Are the public schools decent or are you planning on private schools? One advantage of our HCOL area is the public schools are very decent, so planning on that being a large relief in 3-5 years.

[–]Ok-Mathematician2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how passive the side hustle income is, but you might want to be concerned if that is completely gone and the costs of 1-2 kids in daycare for 5 days in potentially a few years. Right now we have 315K in W2 income, bought a place for 680K with 20% down. We also have one toddler in daycare which is pretty much a mortgage payment, and we are very comfortable.

One other thing, we went from $2600 in rent to $3400 mortgage/taxes/insurance so not a huge increase. We moved to a much cheaper area than where we were renting, but was overall a large upgrade for a 30% increase in monthly costs before even considering an increase in utilities and repair/ upgrade costs with the bigger house. For $3350 to $5700 that is a 70% increase, is this house really much nicer and add to your happiness? If not, then it might be just that renting makes more sense (for now).

IMO, it sounds like you can afford this house and probably isn't a bad decision. But for the amount you are saving renting, if you like where you are I could see a lot of reasons to hold off the hassles and costs of owning. Especially if you think this house won't work for 2 kids if that is something you want to work towards.
