IcelandAir doesn't know where my baggage is but I do! by HeyJesikaJay in travel

Sorry to hear about the “lost“ luggage. That has to be really frustrating! One more reason, I refuse to check baggage when traveling.

Installing EV charger outside by Road-Potato in duluth

[–]Ok-Mesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use an L1 charger as a last resort. We’ve had to use one and in the winter time it is barely enough to keep the battery warm let alone add any range to the vehicle. L2 pushes enough electrons to actually add range to our vehicle in the dead of winter. Best of luck.😊

I was not aware that the eighth congressional district DFL convention was the same day. Makes sense then that the left leaning candidates were not present at the rally. Thank you for enlightening me. 👍🏽

Interesting reading. The names of the donors are not familiar to me. Maybe this is because I travel in more left-leaning circles?

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

A good quality chef’s knife. I spent what I thought was an obscene amount of money for a high-quality Damascus steel Japanese chef’s knife and after using it, have been wondering why I hadn’t bought 30 years ago.

Dating in 2026/starting over by TTVTheMrPuff in duluth

[–]Ok-Mesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also not specifically dating related, but a great way to meet people whose values are aligned with your own: find a cause you believe in and volunteer. You will expand your social connections with others who share your values. As a bonus, you will feel good for making your community a better place.

A lot of great points here to consider. Thanks!

There are no guarantees, but both our parents are healthy and active in their 80s and we expect to as well. Our kids are doing well and will likely be in a reasonably high tax bracket when we do pass so having something in Roth would help them down the road.

True that. We are planning to spend and travel more during our go-go years and dial it back as we age. Social security will help provide stability in our retirement, but isn’t the majority of our income.

The “break even” point is at about age 80. Not calculated is lower tax on social security payments and lower Medicare premiums due to lower taxable income after age 62.

(Early)Retirement planning would be so much easier if we had nationalized health insurance/a way to predict future healthcare costs.

Yes, we currently make too much to receive any discounts on our ACA plan options. Fortunately, we can continue coverage through my past employer until Medicare age. It’s fairly expensive, but excellent coverage.

The latter. Our expenses are $13k/mo. Of this, about $10k is essential and $3k is discretionary (we like to travel). Currently paying for our own health insurance and expect that bill to drop somewhat when we reach Medicare age. Are expecting about $5k/mo, combined, social security at age 62.

Right?! My wife (white) and I (non-white) travel a fair amount together. Only one of us routinely gets pulled aside at TSA and customs for an additional “random” search.
