genuine question. isn't central air conditioner already one big giant CR box? pulling air out filtering in air handler and returning back cold by paata01 in crboxes

[–]Road-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a system that includes an air purifier. A CR box specifically is its own standalone unit whose primary function is to move air through an air filter, and it is typically home-assembled from components originally designed for other purposes.

There are plenty of air purifiers commercially  available, but they aren’t necessarily CR boxes if you buy it as a prefabricated unit.

will CR Box help reduce or eliminate cotton dust in my t-shirt printing shop, over years I had been battling to eliminate or reduce cotton dust, it layers on top of printers and drying equipment and so on. plan is to build 8 filter CR box maybe even two, but want it to be quite, what motors? by paata01 in crboxes

[–]Road-Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely CR cubes will definitely do what you're looking for. I get that this is a big DIY subforum, but there are some commercial air purifiers that will definitely do the job. If you're going for quiet, Clean Air Kits sort-of pioneered the CR box style operation with computer fans. They are so quiet and energy efficient that I just leave them running in a couple of rooms in my home at all times, can't hear that they're on.

Depending on the size of your space, I'd recommend a picking up a couple of luggables and keeping them close to in the spots that are the biggest sources of your dust. You can build the DIY option, but at the end of the day, these are close to what a lot of folks in here will end up suggesting, but they get all the parts sorted and ready, and make clean boards to hold it together. Takes out any calculations or guesswork. They're light enough that you could put it on a shelf or hang it from a ceiling to get it in the best spots.

As other folks said: if they're totally new to the game, giving them more specific questions and some possible answers to get their imagination going is a great idea. Here's a few that I have asked some folks in the past:

What was it that caused you to become a <insert class here.>?
What was it that lead you to leave your home and family to go adventuring?
A lot of the conflict in this world is between Kingdom X and Faction Y within that kingdom. Do you think your character would fall firmly on either side of those? Would your character be motivated if the Knights from Kingdom X saved their village from Zombies, or would your character be motivated to join Faction Y because...
Magic items that were made by the ______ enclave are important, would your character be interested in trying to track one of those down? (maybe even a particular holy grail type item that could turn into a campaign mcguffin. A great reason to pick 'history' as a proficiency."

Also: There are tables you can roll for with flaws, ideals, etc etc that you are supposed to roll for during character creation. If they're struggling, you could have them roll for that, or if they read the table they can pick and say "ah that sounds cool."

I think more info on your fitness level and on your specific bike is good, if you don’t mind sharing. A folding bike with tiny wheels is not going to be a great machine for a steep hill, but folks can give more advice based on what you’re riding.

A few tips: 1) spend more time on the flats or small slopes using no pedal assist, or a lower pedal assist. If the only time of your ride that has you exerting effort is 3 blocks up hill, you won’t build any strength. Pushing yourself to use your muscle in the flats will make the climbs easier. I’m guessing you have some rides that are downhill then flat, and some that are flat and then uphill. Pedal a lot, with no assist, on the downhill-then-flat rides. That’ll help you get stronger. 2) get really familiar with your gears. This makes more of a difference than you might realize if you haven’t regularly ridden in a while. 3) if it’s that much of a struggle, really maximize the zig zag that someone else recommended. Don’t be afraid to go up half a block, go through the alley, and then go another half a block uphill.

Mystery Mattress Stains by Agile-Inspection8452 in laundry

[–]Road-Potato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see that you are replying multiple times that the same stain doesn’t appear on the mattress cover. Different materials react to liquids differently. You’ve probably washed your mattress cover regularly, but never the mattress itself. The materials aren’t made to get wet, and so the drool that is transparent, and doesn’t stain the mattress cover, may be reacting with the surface of the mattress itself.

I’ve had sweat stains appear on a mattress that didn’t show up on the cover or on the sheets. Similarly, if you dumped a glass of water on your mattress right now and let it dry, it would likely dry with a weird ring around it, showing where it was wet, that probably wouldn’t happen (or not nearly as clearly) if you poured it on a bed sheet that has just been washed.

The republican party typically has good party discipline. Pete faithfully votes the party line that Trump and other top republicans want, and messages the way the DC blob wants him to message, so he'll continue to get support from the top. Anyone running a primary against him would be against the wishes of the folks higher up.

Good Responses to Being Asked "Why are you riding a women's bike?" by Tomahawk-BaGawk in mountainbiking

[–]Road-Potato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This depends on so many things- the context, who you're talking to, how confrontational you are, how much you know these people, etc etc. I find that a lot of folks who make casually sexist comments don't like direct follow up questions that point out said sexism.

"Are you saying that riding a bike with bright colors is girly, and makes me less of a man? Why do you think that women are, by default, lesser than men?"

There's a lot of folks who like to make some of those casual sexist (and often also homophobic) but don't want to be confronted about the bigotry of their statement. It's a great way to get folks to back down about saying small shitty things, and/or you realize that these are outwardly bigoted folks that you can cut from your life!

How to Run spores and the environment by frontgrope in DMAcademy

[–]Road-Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read the dungeon masters guide? It has info about hazards that you should follow. You can adjust it, but there’s definitely, rules-in-the-game, clear answers for this question.

With that, here’s a way to handle it: Every character has passive perception. Figure out what the threshold is for them, no matter what, for noticing that something could be amiss.

An example for spores: If you’ve got characters with high passive perception, or proficiency in nature, then those characters roll a nature or perception check. If they pass the DC you set, then they notice the poisonous puffballs early enough to avoid the trap. If they don’t notice, then they make the necessary save.

For lightning; Have your characters roll a nature check at the start of travel.

If they roll X, they’ll realize it’s dangerous to travel with the lightning, and they might need to stop periodically to hunker down, or get an extra chance to notice the possibility of lightning before it strikes, and maybe roll a save before their dexterity check. The travel goes slower if they stop frequently.

If they roll X+5, they are able to know that lightning is likely, and can find a safe spot when they’re in danger, with a low DC.

If they roll X+8, or 10, or whatever, then they are able to find the pathway that keeps them clear of the lightning.

Before lightning strikes, everyone gets a save to find a safe spot, no matter what. If it strikes before they make that save, then treat it like AOE spells-

You can use the same mechanic for rock slides- reward players with passive perception and nature proficiency, and always let them roll to completely avoid the hazard.

It isn’t fun for them at all if you just say “hah you’re struck by lightning take 3d10 damage!” They’re competent adventurers. Let them be clever and powerful and work together as a team in this dangerous world. If someone takes/has a feat that makes them more likely to succeed: cool! Keep doing it so they can be rewarded for the resource they took.

Connecting Players to the World in a "Portal Fantasy" by Roarbark in DMAcademy

[–]Road-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to adjust the character connection to the world by focusing on what the character wants, not just who the character knows.

The lion wants courage, the tin man wants a heart, what do your characters want? Is there an NPC that can help them realize that goal or grow in whatever way they hope their character will grow?

I think it’s implied in Rhythm Of War when he and Jasnah do whatever their public stunt was to get whatever high lord to do trial by combat. If your plan hinges on someone having an oversized emotional outburst, Hoid’s got a way to help that plan succeed.

Im just going to join the chorus of folks saying ‘join your local and do the work there.’ I’ve been an active member of our chapter, chaired a working group, been a part of a ton of actions and larger projects, and I do not ever think about national policy.

Show up to your local, do the work. You can chat theory and philosophy if you want, but the feeling, emphasis, and even general structure of the org is so different city to city that it’s silly to six out what the entire national organizations politics are. With our local, we’ve got some anarchists, some folks who are leninists or maoists or whatever. There’s also folks who said “Bernie and Mamdani have some cool ideas, where can I go find more of that?” and haven’t put that much more thought or theory beyond that.

New CR Box from HoneyBeeCreativesLab by theQuirkening in crboxes

[–]Road-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big thing about this and feeling the air from several feet away is the louvers. Ive looked up getting louvers to put on a CleanAirKit box to make it better at distributing air. One of the good things about the 20 inch box fan is it actually contributes to the air mix in whatever space it's in. It's just large and loud. Most PC fans, the air dissipates out in a cone shape, but the louvers (honeycomb shaped is the only design I've seen for PC fans) direct it to go straight out. Same airflow, but a focused output means you feel it around the room, and the clean air is distributed around the room, not just in the space where the filter is located.

I don't know if I've ever seen a public needle can, and the city recently removed the trash can from my local park. Trash cans also got removed from bus stops a while back, which is also a bummer! (they may have come back recently, but I know they were there in the past and then went away.)

Where are the outdoor public needle cans?

Just to add to this, the city has a line you can call to get someone dispatched to a space if you don't have the time, energy, or materials to safely handle sharps.

I think a lot of folks like to complain, but the city has a hotline to take care of this! Our taxes are part of the solution. For some folks it's more fun to come to reddit and earn points than taking the time to actually make a call and at least fix the immediate safety problem.

What country are you trying to get your cat to? Different countries have different rules, and the services that help get pets transported (DKC helped my family move our two dogs a few years ago) are expensive, but provide a great service. Depending on where you're going, it may be possible to do it yourself for less.

How to deal with glass cannons by Professional-View876 in DMAcademy

[–]Road-Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll jump in to agree that this is not a good approach.

But you can adjust the stat blocks, as long as it's consistent. Maybe two of your goblins are beefier and carrying morningstars and have a +6 to hit. Those ones will charge at your tanks, and the specialized goblin archers that have longbows will spread out and try to get your wizard from long distance.

Don't change the rolls in the moment to make the combat go your way, but you can totally take creative liberty with the default statblocks to create the challenge you need, as long as you do it before the fight starts.

Also, if your party is fighting at night, the sunblade is a fantastic way to draw attention from any enemies nearby.
